It’s hard to imagine a garden plot without a cabbage lady, probably as hard as our dining table without her presence. If know the correct timing of its landing on seedlings and planting in the ground, it can be grown even in the Urals and in Siberia. But when planting cabbage seedlings in these areas, is it afraid of frost, and we'll talk in this review.

Terms of cabbage planting in Siberia and the Urals

In the harsh climate of Siberia, cabbage is grown in seedlings so that it can mature in a short summer before the onset of the Siberian cold and frost.

In terms of ripening is divided into early, middle and late. Naturally, the timing of sowing seeds for seedlings and planting grown up and strong seedlings in the ground is different. Sowing seeds of early cabbage for seedlings should be in spring in early April, middle and late in the second half of the month.

Planting cabbage seeds for seedlings

Transplanting seedlings into the open ground is done at the age of 40-45 days from the moment of seed germination. Early varieties are planted approximately in mid-May, medium and late in late May. Landings are made when the threat of possible spring temperature drops is over.

As the folk omen says, it is possible to plant cabbage in open ground, after flowering of bird cherry, there should be no return frost.

Whether seedlings are afraid of frosts, what temperature can withstand

This is a rather cold-resistant culture, and it is able to withstand a decrease in temperature and small short-term frost. What is the minimum temperature that seedlings can withstand? Hardened seedlings tolerate short temperatures below -3 ÷ -4 ° C.

Cabbage seedlings in ice

To save the seedlings from the low temperature, it is possible to apply the sprinkling method, smoking, but this is an all-night job and it is not always effective. To save seedlings, you can cover them with caps made of newspapers, wooden boxes, but much easier, more convenient and safer to cover the landing covering material density of 60under which the plants are able to withstand the outside temperature up to -7 ° C frost.

Greenhouses protect cabbage seedlings from late frosts

Spring planting in open ground

Planting in open ground cabbage seedlings in Siberia is practically no different from planting it in other regions, except that with displaced terms and for harsh conditions, the plants must be properly hardened.

The first seedlings of early varieties are planted in the open ground, the next in line are color, Savoy, middle and late white.

By transplantation, seedlings with a fibrous root system and 3-5 well-developed leaves are considered ready.

Soil preparation: what fertilizers to make

Place for planting choose open and well lit, with loose and moisture-permeable soil. Land for the cultivation of vegetables, it is desirable to prepare in the fall. It is cleared of weeds, brought under digging compost or humus and mineral fertilizers. Organics are applied at the rate of 3-4 kg per 1 m 2, mineral fertilizers - 1 tablespoon of nitrophoska or superphosphate per 1 m 2. If the use of mineral fertilizers for you is not acceptable enough to make one glass of wood ash per 1 m 2.

It is good if siderarates were planted on the site before digging - rye, oats, lupine, fatselia, peas. These plants improve the structure of the soil and clean it from such dangerous cabbage disease as keel.

The best for growing this crop are weakly acidic or neutral soil, therefore, acidic soils in the autumn must be squeezed - to apply slaked lime, dolomite flour or wood ash for digging. Another reason for the need to deoxidize the soil is the fight against the keel of cabbage, which is rampant on acidic soils.

You can grow cabbage after cereals and legumes, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, peppers, cucumbers and beets.

Planting scheme and methods of growing

Each type of culture has its own landing pattern:

  • early white and red - 30 * 50 cm,
  • middle and late - 50 * 70 cm,
  • Savoy - 70 * 30 cm
  • color - 30-60 cm
  • broccoli for good development of shoots - 40 * 60 cm,
  • Kohlrabi - 30 * 40 cm.

Cabbage loves light and good airing, therefore You can stick to a more simple arrangement of plants in a row and between rows 50 * 50 cm.

If dual rowing is used, then to avoid thickening, the second row is better to plant in a staggered manner.

When landing in single rows cabbage is well ventilated and it is free without close neighbors.

Cabbage plantations for better use of free space can be compacted by other crops. This plant is very good for neighbors with a shallow root system, such as parsley, legumes (they also enrich the soil with nitrogen), onions, spinach, salads, dill, carrots. The cabbage takes food from the deep layers of the earth, and no one bothers neighbors from the top and in such a community.

Planting seedlings is desirable to produce in cloudy weather or in the evening. Planted strong and healthy plants, if the seedlings have even the slightest signs of the disease it is rejected. Also come with weak plants that are either not planted, or planted last in the remaining area.

Neighbors can pick up and maturity. So next to the garden with early cabbage can be planted tomatoes and beets. After harvesting ripened cabbage in June, the remaining plants will develop normally further.

What to put in the hole in the spring and how much

If fertilizers have not been applied to a plot intended for growing cabbage in the fall, this can be done directly during planting. What to add to the hole when planting seedlings and how much?

In the hole with a diameter of 30-40 cm and a depth of 15-20 cm should be put 1 tbsp. a spoonful of wood ash, 1 teaspoon of urea and superphosphate, and of course putting humus, enriching and improving the structure of the soil. If on a piece of soil heavy perlite. All components of the planting well mix with the ground, pour a pink solution of potassium permanganate, or a solution of soda ash (a glass of soda in a bucket) and plant seedlings. Seedlings deepen the seedbed leaves and slightly compact the soil.

The cultivation of cabbage does not need to expend special efforts if adhere to planting dates and comply with agricultural practices. And you will be provided with this tasty and healthy vegetable all year round.

When to plant cabbage in the ground?

At the same time, planting whole cabbage in open ground will not work: there are several types of this crop, and each of them has its own requirements, its own development calendar. You may have different cabbage seedlings on the windowsill.

  1. White-toothed early, middle and late ripeness.
  2. Red - head of intensive red-violet color contains more vitamins than white.
  3. Colored - for food purposes very tasty fleshy flower stalks are used.
  4. Broccoli - used for cooking stems with heads of peduncles.
  5. Kohlrabi - eat a thickened stalk, which is shaped like a turnip, and to taste - stump.
  6. Brussels is a tall stalk strewn with small coaches; children simply adore them.
  7. Savoy - pimply leaves will decorate a plate with salad and greens, because of their softness and durability, it is good to use them for cabbage rolls.
  8. Beijing - leaves are used for salads, stored for long, so it is best to plant in several stages.
  9. Decorative - a rosette of leaves of different shades will decorate any flower bed.

All species have different frost resistance: the most resistant to cold - Savoy, the most thermophilic - color and broccoli. In open ground, cabbage seedlings can be planted depending on the type and variety in 1-2 months after germination. A landing is recommended at that age when 2 true leaves will develop well, and the third and fourth will only begin to appear. It should be a little overgrown saplings, and the heads of cabbies will not be sufficiently dense and, moreover, uneven.

Cabbage is not afraid of low temperatures, but in cold weather, instead of a head of cabbage, you can get a spike with seeds. In central Russia, the early white cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, broccoli and Savoy is well established in early May, the late white cabbage, red, Brussels sprouts in late May. In the Urals and in Siberia, another calendar of garden works, the dates need to be shifted by 1-2 weeks. The optimum temperature for planting seedlings is from + 15⁰ to + 18⁰. Look at the forecast for your area, in the southern regions you can plant in early April and grow 2 harvests of early cabbage over the summer. The greater the distance from warm areas, the later should be planted seedlings in open ground.

According to folk signs, cabbage should be planted when the bird cherry blossoms, which in the central regions and in the Ural region foretells a strong cooling. Sit a little on the bare ground: if you freeze quickly and you want to spread a warm rug - the ground has not warmed up yet, if you are comfortable - it's time to plant. You can see the lunar calendar, just keep in mind that astrologers consider too many nuances. As a result, for a whole month there are only 2-3 suitable days. Where is the guarantee that these numbers you can go to the country, and the weather will be favorable? If you approach the recommendations without much pedantry, then it is better to plant the seedlings in open ground on the growing moon, and on the new moon and full moon it is desirable not to do any work. There are unwritten rules that on Wednesdays and Fridays there is no need to plant and sow anything, and cabbage is undesirable to swoop down and repot on Thursdays.

Create a fruit garden bed

Choose a place in an open, unshadowed area where crucifers have not grown for the last 4 years. It’s good to plant cabbages on a plot where legumes, pumpkin or solanaceous crops were before. It is desirable that the groundwater level was about 0.5 m: cabbage loves moisture, but she is unlikely to enjoy living in a swamp. In the autumn, dig and level the future bed, select all the roots of weeds and fertilize it with manure (5 kg per 1 m 2). If the soil is acidified, add lime or chalk. These plants do not like sandy and clay soils, you can improve the soil with green manure, just do not use cruciferous crops. You can sow:

It is better to dig the bed with a fork. The roots of weeds can reach a long distance, a shovel you cut them into pieces that will begin to grow actively. With teeth, it is convenient to pick up a long rhizome and pull it out completely.

Mark the holes, given that the cabbage does not tolerate crowding and is very demanding of lighting. The planting scheme depends on the size of the plants, the distance between the seedlings should provide them with comfortable conditions up to the harvest. Usually early cabbage gives small cabbages, late varieties - larger ones. Brussels does not take up much space, it gives a compact column, but it requires a lot of space, because this view loves light very much. For early white and kohlrabi you need 40x50 cm, for Beijing - 30x30 cm, for other species - 60x60 cm.

Cabbage took the whole garden? Do not worry, this is a very sociable culture, it loves its neighbors. The distance between the heads can be sown with spinach, salads, onions. It is desirable that compaction plants have a superficial root system. Cabbage root will take food from deeper layers, and its neighbors from a small depth, and no one will disturb anyone. Compare the calendar of development of planting, how much time each of the crops that you grow on the same bed grows. For early cabbage, you can plant vegetables with a long growing season: when the cabbages are removed, they can be located spaciously. Next to the late varieties, it is better to plant crops that will ripen by mid-summer and make room for the development of forks.

Transplanting

On the day of transplantation, do not water the plant so that the stem becomes soft and not too fragile. No matter how carefully you handle the seedlings, when transporting a long distance and during a transplant traumatic effects can not be avoided. Plan to work in the evening, when the heat subsides. Well, if it is cloudy, it will not interfere with drizzle. An hour before planting, water the seedlings so that the soil becomes wet.

The correct depth of the holes should be at least 15 cm, there should be enough space for nutrients. In each hole you need to pour 1-2 liters of water depending on the soil moisture. When the liquid is absorbed, pour into a recess of a glass of humus or manure and a matchbox of ash. Be sure to sprinkle the fertilizer with a layer of earth, so as not to burn the roots. Remove the seedlings from the containers, process the roots with a growth stimulator, put them in the hole and bury. Lightly seal the ground, moisten and grind the soil around the plant.

There are 2 different opinions about the depth of landing. Some advise to bury the plant to the cotyledon leaves for the development of a powerful root system, others do not recommend digging the stem, so that the plants do not spend all their efforts on the formation of the underground part. With this method, the leaves do not lie on the ground, and the ground is ventilated. This condition is especially important if the distance to groundwater is small. Try different options and determine which method is preferable for your soil.

Sow oats and vetch before cabbage in the winter, and in spring you can plant seedlings right among the greenery. Green trees will protect young saplings from the sun, heavy rain and wind. When the plants get stronger, the grass can be cut, chopped and used as mulch. Let the roots remain in the soil and continue to loosen and fertilize the soil.

Young planting care

Cabbage loves bright light, but does not tolerate heat well. On hot days you need to protect young planting from the scorching sun. You can close the bed with non-woven material, it is useful in the case of night frosts. When you notice that the seedlings produce new leaves, the plants have taken root, now they are not so vulnerable.

Feed must be started when the plant will release the seventh leaf. For the first time, it is advisable to use only organic matter: humus, herbal extract, slurry. The closer to the formation of heads, the less cabbage you need nitrogen and more phosphorus and potassium.

20 days after the first feeding use the composition:

  • ammonium nitrate - 1 part,
  • superphosphate - 2 parts,
  • potassium chloride - 1 part.

Prepare the mixture at the rate of 50 g per 1 m 2. If the forks have not yet begun to form, apply nitrogen fertilizer to the garden bed or pour slurry.

With a lack of moisture you can not wait for juicy elastic heads. One plant can consume about 10 liters of liquid on a hot day; make sure that the soil does not dry out. How much water to pour out under the seedlings depends on the dryness of the soil. In this case, do not forget that you are not growing rice, do not turn the garden into a swamp. Cabbage loves the soil, saturated with oxygen, loosen the ground after watering and rain, let's not form a crust. If the leg stretches too high, you need to spud the plant.

Immediately after planting, start cooking the infusion of garlic, it will scare away the main pests of cabbage - butterflies, butterflies. Clean 3 large heads, pass the teeth through a meat grinder, put in a five-liter jar and fill the container with water. Keep 7 days in a dark place, then, when you notice butterflies, spray the seedlings. There is an interesting way to fight slugs: put a plate of beer on the ground, they will like alcohol, and in the morning you can carry a full dish of pests away from the garden. At a short distance from the garden you can plant marigolds and wormwood, they will drive away all kinds of uninvited guests.

Even when sowing seeds, it is necessary to calculate the timing correctly so that the seedlings do not overgrow. Cabbage is not afraid of frost, but low temperatures can badly affect the yield. At night, cover the plants with non-woven material, it will protect from the cold. In hot weather, such a shelter will protect the land from sunburn. Usually, the landing in open ground occurs in May, but the distance between the borders of our country is huge, so the climate is very diverse. The time of garden work in the Krasnodar Territory should be different from the schedule adopted in the Urals or in the northern regions. You can use the lunar landing calendar, but do not forget that weather conditions are more important than the recommendations of the night star.

Plants can not be planted thickly, they need light and space. Place the bushes at a sufficient distance from each other. For early cabbage you need less space than for late. To save land, use a mixed planting, with the same beds, you can take a crop of greens, onions or carrots. Siderats improve soil structure and protect young plants from the scorching sun. In order not to be mistaken in the timing of plant care, make a calendar of watering and fertilizing. If you do everything right, the whole family will be provided with tasty and healthy vegetables all year round.

Air temperature and degree of soil warming

Almost all members of the cabbage family are cold-resistant cultures. When 4 true leaflets appear on the seedlings, it already endures a short-term decrease in temperature to -5 ° C.

Many gardeners in the time of disembarkation of cabbage seedlings are guided by the lunar calendar. As a rule, it indicates only a few days when you can do work.

For example, in 2018, astrologers recommend planting seedlings on such dates:

  • April - 17-29, favorable days - 20-23,
  • May - 9-11, 26-29, 31,
  • June 1-3, 5-8, 10-12.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to get to the cottage on the dates suggested by the lunar calendar. Experienced gardeners are guided by the flowering of bird cherry. When flowers appear, cooling begins. In the Urals, the timing of planting cabbage seedlings on the ridge can be safely planned when the tree fades.

If you follow the national signs, the cabbage is well accustomed to the growing moon. Thursday is considered to be the best day of the week for planting seedlings.

Features of the landing time in different regions

Let's find out when to plant cabbage in open ground in different parts of our country. In central Russia, white cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, broccoli and Savoyard are planted in early May. The timing of planting late white and red cabbage, Brussels sprouts on the beds - the end of May. In the Urals and Siberia, the timing of cabbage planting in open ground shifted slightly, work is done in early June. The air here warms up to optimum temperatures later than in the southern regions and the middle zone of the week by one and a half. Planting early cabbage seedlings in open ground by region:

  • Moscow region, Moscow region, southern Urals - at the end of April,
  • Permsky Krai, Bashkiria, Udmurtia - from May 6,
  • Voronezh and Saratov regions - in the first decade of April,
  • in Transbaikalia - in the last days of May, beginning of June,
  • Southern regions of Russia, Kuban - from March 20.

According to the rules of agricultural engineering, early cabbage varieties need to be planted on the ridge, and in two weeks - middle-ripening. Late cabbage is planted after 14 days.

These are approximate terms used for cultivation of cabbage when planting in open ground: after all, the main indicator is the climatic characteristics of the region.

Technology of planting seedlings in open ground

Gardeners involved in vegetable production for more than one year know that this vegetable is a real “mistress”. Planting cabbage in open ground seedlings requires the implementation of a number of rules. Only in this case, you can count on a rich harvest.

Selecting a landing site

Despite the fact that cabbage is a lover of moisture, under it in the garden they choose a plot on a certain elevation.

Precursor plants. Agricultural practices imply the use of crop rotation. At one place cultivation of cabbage in open ground is not recommended.

There are a number of cultures, after which the cabbage seedlings grow safely, little is sick. It is best to plant a vegetable after:

  • potatoes and tomatoes,
  • onions and pumpkin crops,
  • carrots
  • beans and peas,
  • peppers and eggplant.

To improve the structure in the fall, oats, vetch, mustard are sown on ridges. In spring, the soil is dug up along with sideratami.

“Good” and “Bad” Neighbors

Cabbage is a peace-loving culture that gets along with many plants. In between cabbage seedlings, you can grow spinach, salads, onions. Good neighbors are plants with a spicy aroma. They discourage pests, protect planting from disease. It can be:

  • marigolds and tansy,
  • chamomile and calendula,
  • nasturtium, as well as some other spicy herbs.

Among the garden crops there are plants that have a bad effect on cabbage growth. It is not recommended to plant cabbages next door:

  • with carrots and cumin,
  • with parsnips and turnips,
  • with radish and other crucifers.

Illumination. Cabbage of all kinds - light-loving culture. When growing seedlings, this fact must be taken into account. The lack of light leads to the stretching of sprouts, this has a negative effect on further development. For ridges under cabbage seedlings choose open spaces.

Preparation of beds

In order to grow a good harvest of cabbage in the beds, it is necessary to take into account the type and varietal characteristics. For some plants, a small distance between the sprouts is sufficient, for others, especially late-ripe white cabbage, a large step from hole to hole is required.

Fertilization. Before digging the beds, compost is introduced (per m² by the bucket). With increased acidity, the soil is deoxidized with chalk or dolomite flour. In each well before planting as a top dressing use a teaspoon of wood ash. Ridges dig up and make holes.

Marking wells for landing, taking into account the required distances. When planting cabbage seedlings in the ground need to adhere to a specific scheme. In a word, you need to know what the distance should be between the seedlings. The table shows the distance for different types of cabbage when planting in the ground. The type and variety of vegetables, as well as the string of ripening also matter.

Landing time in different regions

Planting period completely depends on the climatic conditions of a certain zone where the culture will grow. Usually the moment of landing comes when green leaves from 12 to 20 cm in height have already appeared in the early cabbage, this is about the beginning of May. But in each locality gardeners are counting individual periods for planting seeds or seedlings in open ground.

When sowing cabbage for seedlings in Siberia, you can learn from the lunar calendar, as many do, and you can proceed from the many years of experience of summer cottage professionals who have been watching the weather for years and experimenting with planting plants in the ground under such harsh conditions. So, in the Urals, early varieties are planted in late May - early June, the Moscow region puts plans for the end of the month, and in the Krasnodar Territory or the Crimea at this time the planting of all vegetables is already ending.

As soon as the threat of frost has passed and lower temperatures are no longer foreseen, it is possible to plant early cabbage, further middle varieties, and later them. Improper selection of cabbage planting reduces the yield many times. Quite often, seedlings are damaged by frost precisely because of gardeners, who practice planting ahead of time. Planting ends late cabbage, which should be planted in the middle lane from May 10 until June 1.

For cultivation of white cabbage in Siberia, the seedling method is usually used, as it allows you to get a rich cabbage harvest in the shortest possible time. The seeds of both early and late varieties of this crop are sown in greenhouses or greenhouses with heating, and mid-season cabbage is sown in film-coated beds and in nursery beds.

When in Siberia you need to plant cabbage

When planting cabbage in this region, it is necessary to take into account the presence of the Siberian harsh climate and the duration of night frosts. Therefore, if we compare the region with other areas, planting seeds here is much later. Thus, early varieties are planted by gardeners in mid-April, and late cabbage at the end of the month.

Based on the growing season of a certain variety of cabbage, the majority of gardeners and calculates the term of sowing seeds. Also, when calculating the desired date of transplanting into the ground is taken into account. The first green shoots after planting seeds can be seen already after 6–10 days, while the sprouts can be transferred to the beds at 40–45 days of life. Thus, in order to find out when it is possible to sow white cabbage for seedlings, it is necessary to take 46–57 days from the planned date of transplanting sprouts into the soil.

Selection of varieties for planting in Siberia

If we take into account all the climatic features of this region, we can see that only frost resistant varieties will give a good harvest. Also, the selected variety must be resistant to temperature extremes. The most suitable for growing in Siberian conditions varieties of white cabbage:

  • Early ripening - Golden hectare, Number One 147, Number One Polar K-206,
  • middle ones - Slava 1305, Sibiryachka 60, Slava Altaiskaya 157, Belorusskaya 455, Nadezhda,
  • Late varieties - Lebyazhenskaya improved, Gift.

Despite the fact that these varieties of white cabbage are recommended to be sown in the harsh Siberian conditions, it should be borne in mind that even this cabbage will not survive the frost. Therefore, cabbage planting should occur only when frost is not exactly foreseen.

All types of cabbage have good yields and excellent taste. Early cabbage is usually used in fresh salads, medium-ripening varieties, like later ones, are suitable for salting and long-term storage in the cellar. Experts recommend buying seeds only in stores that adhere to all the rules for storing such products, and guarantee the quality of the product.

Seed preparation

Seeds before sowing necessarily need to sort, in order to remove non-viable or damaged fractions. This can be done manually, laying the most healthy and large seeds, and you can pour a lot of salt solution, empty seeds will float to the surface, and high-quality seeds will fall to the bottom of the tank.

After that, you need to carry out the procedure of disinfection. Many summer residents place for this purpose selected seeds in a weak solution of ordinary potassium permanganate. But sometimes this may not be enough, especially when it comes to the seeds of your own harvest. For such a case, processing with low temperatures is more suitable.

The procedure for temperature treatment of seeds:

  1. 20 minutes in water at +5,
  2. 1 minute of being in cold water
  3. 12 hours in solution from trace elements,
  4. being in the fridge for a day.

Such simple manipulations will allow the seeds to resist diseases in the future, and significantly increase their germination.

Sowing seeds for seedlings

In order to sow cabbage in the Urals, as well as grow it in the regions of Siberia, it is necessary to acquire special primerwhich will consist of turf land, peat and sand. The proportions of the components may vary, but usually the gardeners mix all the components in equal parts. The usual garden soil for cabbage seedlings is not recommended to use, as it is usually infected with diseases like black leg.

Seedlings for cabbage can be grown in two ways: using a pick and without it. Picks are transplanting seedlings into separate pots.

Picking method:

  1. plant seeds in a tank with a height of at least 5 cm,
  2. embed the seeds into the soil to a depth of one and a half cm, adhering to an interval of 1-2 cm,
  3. Dive the seedlings immediately after the plants start up a green leaf.

Disposable cups, special seedling cassettes, home-made boxes with dividers are perfect for picking seedlings.

The method of growing cabbage seedlings without the use of a pick is to lay 2 seeds at once in one individual container. With the first sprouts, the gardener conducts thinning of the seedlings, removing the weakest seedling from the two that have risen.

Feeding and care

Growing cabbage is easyneed as care just follow the light and temperature regime, regularly feed and water the plants. Immediately after the sowing is completed, you need to install in the room where they are located at a temperature of 18-20 degrees. If the gardener grows seedlings in a greenhouse, it is recommended to additionally wrap it with a film. Such conditions will allow sprouts to appear already on the 6th day of life. Immediately after that, the temperature should be adjusted to +10 degrees in order to prevent the plants from falling off and stretching, slowing down the growth rate.

It is necessary to start watering seedlings as soon as the top layer of soil dries. It is very important not to overdo it with moisture, otherwise the shoots will begin to rot. After watering, be sure to ventilate the room with future seedlings.

Feed the seedlings need twice for the whole period: when the seedlings will release two leaves and 15–20 days before planting in open ground.

Transplanting cabbage seedlings into open soil

When the plants acquire 5–6 true leaves, they are considered old enough to be transferred to the beds. 15–20 days before the transfer, the seedlings need to be hardened - bring it outside for a few hours in the afternoon. The procedure is repeated several days in a row, so the sprouts will adapt to the external conditions and become more cold-resistant.

For planting cabbage, you must choose windless areasthat have fertile soil, and they should not be darkened. White cabbage takes root well after cucumbers, potatoes, beets and tomatoes.

Before planting seedlings, the land must be loosened, digged, watered and leveled. In the ground, shallow holes should be made at intervals of 40–50 cm, keeping a distance of 40 cm. In these pits should be carefully placed the seedlings together with the native clod of earth, without damaging the roots. After planting, the soil around the cabbage sprout can be slightly compacted.

If the winter frosts have not left the region yet and there is still a threat of frost, you can cover the sprouts small paper cones or agryl.

Cabbage is considered to be a vitamin well. Moreover, the vegetable is incredibly tasty and affordable. Knowing when to plant white cabbage in the Urals and in other regions of Siberia, how to properly care for it, you can regale all year round with crunchy sauerkraut and fragrant pies.

Terms of cabbage planting in Siberia

Each gardener gains his own experience when and how to plant one or another vegetable. Someone appeals to the authorities, others look into the lunar calendar, but there are those who act by trial and error.

When to plant cabbage - recommendations of experts

Regarding white cabbage, gardening forums and sites are almost unanimous:

  • you need to sow early in 2-3 week of March
  • average ripening period - from 4 weeks of March to 3 weeks of April,
  • late ripening varieties - in the first 3 weeks of April.

And summarize - sow the seeds should be two months before the expected date of planting cabbage on the garden.

On packs of seeds, manufacturers post tips on farming. With regards to the timing of planting cabbage, these recommendations generally coincide with those that can be found on the Internet.

When I sow cabbage: Personal experience

In our family, as well as in all familiar countrymen gardeners in Siberia, it is customary to sow any cabbage in the last week of April or in early May. Need to manage until May 5. Yes, the dates differ significantly from those recommended. But the cabbage, despite this, grows to glory!

Following own long-term practice:

  • white cabbage seeds of all ripening dates are sown from April 25 to May 5,
  • I plant seedlings on the ridge in the first half of June.

Here it is worth explaining the following. Seedlings sow in two ways:

  • in the first case - in a usual bed, I put low arches, I cover in several layers with a film and a covering material,
  • another option is in large boxes in a summer greenhouse made of polycarbonate, and again - arcs, polyethylene, garden covering material.

In late April, our bed under the film can warm up, and the temperature in the greenhouse is suitable. In March or early April, it is still cold, and even the snow lies.

I tried to sow in the "correct" terms in accordance with the recommendations of agronomists, in small boxes in the winter greenhouse. For some reason, the seedlings grew weak, pale, elongated. Therefore, I returned to the "wrong", but time-tested.

Growing cabbage in Siberia. My experience

I grow several varieties of cabbage - red, Brussels sprout, kohlrabi, Peking. But most of all I love squirrels! There is a lot of soot, different varieties ... Only for fermentation I take 65-70 kilograms, and even for winter storage I lay the same amount. And, of course, since July cabbage is on the table almost every day.

The best varieties for Siberia

I agree with the opinion of experienced gardeners: in the cultivation of white cabbage, it is important to choose the right varieties, find your own, suitable for specific conditions - the microclimate of the plot, the composition of the soil, the ripening period, even the taste preferences of the family!

For a short Siberian summer, it is recommended to choose early and middle late varieties. These are exactly in my arsenal, for example this year: a couple of early ones (Number One Gribovsky 147, A Miracle Ultrarn), four or five medium terms (Rinda, Podarok, Slava, Krautman F1). But there are those that are classified as late, for example, every year I plant the Sugar Loaf and the old, proven variety - the Moscow Late.

Sowing on seedlings

For seedlings I take the usual garden soil. Add sand (about ¼ part) and wood ash. The proportions and composition are good for the conditions of my site: the soil is dense, although sandy, fertile, with a lot of organic matter.

In boxes I fill centimeters on 4-5 below sides. I spill it in such a composition: a glass of Fitosporin, an Int-vir tablet, a little potassium permanganate are in a bucket of water. Waiting for the soil to dry.

I make grooves, about 1 cm deep, the distance between rows of centimeters is 5-7. Seeds are laid out after 1 cm, sprinkled, slightly compacted and moistened.

I cover with a film and a covering garden cloth. I keep this shelter until full germination, only I watch that the soil does not dry out.

Seedling care

When all the seedlings appeared, I take shelter (if the seedlings live in a summer greenhouse). But they still have time to stretch out.

Here a distance of several centimeters to the edge of the sides was useful, remember? Thin out seedlings (leave 2-2.5 cm left) and pour the earth back to the cotyledons. I pour in the aisle, leveled to occupy the entire area of the box.

Landing in open ground

В начале июня моя капустка все еще невысокая, сантиметров 10-12, но с 3-4 настоящими листочками, крепкая и бодрая. The stem and lower part of the leaves with a slightly violet shade, as befits a healthy cabbage seedlings.

At this time, in our area comes the massive planting of cabbage in the ground. My rastyushki all take root, do not get sick.

On the ridge I plant in two rows, according to the 40x40 scheme (approximately). In a staggered manner between plants of late varieties I plant early ones. When I take off these early maturing ones, the rest will receive additional space, just as they gain weight.

I water abundantly, warm water. And this, in my opinion, is the most important condition for white cabbage.

Once per season I spray the beds with Fitosporin solution. If pests appear (cabbage soup, slugs), I fight them with chemical means.

Alas, I was disappointed in the sparing folk methods; the effect of them is short-lived. But for some reason insects do not appear every year, and it pleases. Perhaps they save marigolds, of which in the garden - just the sea!

I remove the cabbage in late September or early October. I put the cellar for winter storage in November; in recent years it has been Sugar Loaf, Rinda, Present.

Own juicy fresh cabbage on our table until April, and the most delicious fermented - until the next harvest.

Cabbage seedlings - the secrets of growing and planting in open ground

Modern table is unthinkable without cabbage. But on the one hand, it is rather difficult to grow it - many gardeners have problems with cabbage seedlings. On the other hand, there is nothing special and difficult. There are secrets of growing cabbage seedlings and planting. If you want to grow beautiful cabbage yourself, then first of all you need to think about seeds, about those varieties that will provide you with the result that will satisfy your wishes.

The choice of varieties for growing seedlings of cabbage

First of all, answer very important questions before buying seeds:

  • you only want to use cabbage in the summer, make from it, for example, vitamin salads,
  • you want to ferment her
  • Or maybe you have a basement or other storage where you want to keep it until the new harvest.

The varieties of this vegetable are innumerable. There is super early cabbage, which has already ripened by the end of June, forming tight, juicy heads, there are varieties ripening in the middle of summer, and there are varieties that are harvested only at the end of October - they are intended for late storage. In addition to the white cabbage, there is cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, Peking, red, Savoy, broccoli, kohlrabi, decorative. The choice of variety and type depends on your needs.

How to care for seedling seedlings

Cabbage shoots

After some time (10-12 days) in your cold nursery you will see such a picture - a forest of shoots.

Cabbage has very few seeds that do not germinate. Do not be afraid that your seeds have risen so often. This is normal. It makes thickening up to a certain stage - until the appearance of the 3-4th leaf. Up to this point, you do not need to do anything with seedlings - just make sure that the earth does not dry out, periodically water it. Remember that if it is + 5 ° C outside, it may be + 20 ° C in the greenhouse, and this may cause overdrying of the soil.

Pickling seedlings

Of course, you can already notice at this stage that some plants are stronger, taller, stronger. Most likely, these are the ones that will be planted on the garden bed. But while they are all on equal footing. You can leave everything as it is and wait for the 3-4th leaf to appear. Or you can carefully transplant a part of the plants together with a lump of earth into a separate pot from the nursery. Not every plant in a separate bowl, but a handful of plants.

Cabbage loves fertilizing with organic fertilizers, but before planting it is better not to apply fertilizer.

This plant has a very interesting feature - it is better to replant it into the ground earlier, with full 1-2 true leaves, when the 3-4th leaves just appear. Well, as a last resort, when the 3-4th leaves have already grown, but not later. Since this does not get large, beautiful heads, they will ripen later. This pattern has long been noticed, but why this happens is a mystery. Apparently, this is due to the energy environment.

Usually, seedlings of cabbage are planted in open ground 30 days after germination.

Can be transplanted to a permanent place.

That's about the size of the plants should be before planting.

I do not thin out the seedlings of cabbage in the hotbed. Let it grow thick. When landing in the ground, you will reject weak shoots, choose strong, strong, beautiful.

When you take out cabbage seedlings from the pot or seedlings, you will plant them in the right way - at certain distances. Plants of varying degrees of development will quickly align, catch up with each other. Even if some plants were depressed, they would quickly recover. For cabbage, the earliest period of development is not the main one, for it is important what happens on the garden after disembarkation. There are many features here.

How to form beds

Proper preparation of seed beds for planting seedlings is an important success factor for harvesting. Before planting seedlings, the bed must be carefully dug, simultaneously removing the roots of perennial weeds. Even if you have the land plowed or perekopana in the fall, then in the spring a place for cabbages must be dug up again. Try to carefully break the clods of earth. At the same time, the soil is loosened, saturated with oxygen. I usually use the digging fork. They do not cut the roots of perennial weeds. After cutting a shovel root into 2-3 parts, you thereby get 2-3 plants from one weed.

Planting seedlings in the ground

The scheme of planting cabbage seedlings

Cabbage must be planted at a great distance from each other. Between individual plants should be at least 50-70 cm. But never, of course, I come up to the bed with a ruler. I propose such a method. Before making any plantings, I note in advance future landing sites directly on the garden bed. For cabbage, I do it this way: with a scoop blade or chopper, I draw a zigzag line on the ground.

In those places where the peaks of the zigzag line are located, I will make holes and plant seedlings. This is the most correct way in which the ideal distance is automatically obtained.

So, at each vertex of our markup we dig holes. It must be dug deep enough, about 15-18 cm deep, despite the fact that our seedlings are still small. Why is that? We will “charge” these holes with useful substances necessary for the growth of cabbage.

We add humus to the hole, you can even get fresh manure - all this will benefit the future harvest, since we will not plant seedlings in it. By adding fresh manure or humus, we form the bottom layer of the hole. By quantity, this should be equal to the volume of a 200 gram plastic cup without a top. Then from above I add wood ash - the quantity is approximately equal to the volume of a matchbox. Then it is very important to sprinkle everything slightly on top with earth. Not in a thick layer - usually there are enough handfuls of earth to cover manure, ashes.

The next stage is watering the hole. This condition is mandatory because we are planting a moisture-loving cabbage. In each well pour no less than a liter of water. For future heads, it is very important that the planting holes are well spilled, as watering from the top alone will not be enough.

There is another secret. If the weather is sunny, it is better to leave the spilled holes under the sun, let it take an hour and a half, so that the manure inside the hole begins to emit heat, self-ignited, as they said before. The holes will become warm. It is very important.

Now you can plant the seedlings that we grew in the cold nursery. But we will land it for a reason.

So you should remove the seedlings from the pot

There is another secret - Kornevin (Heteroauxin), a root stimulator. Kornevin will help to make sure that any seedlings will take root 100%, because when planting seedlings damage to the root system is inevitable. Kornevin will reduce all these troubles to a minimum. Open the bag with Kornevin, keep it ready. Seedlings should be removed from the pot as shown in the photo.

Carefully separate one plant from another.

Now it is necessary to separate the separate seedlings from each other. To do this, gently press on the clod of earth, enmeshed with roots, divide it first into two parts, and then smaller. Each time a clod of earth will unite less and less plants.

When separating seedlings, be sure to discard wilted, apparently sick, too small plants.

Lightly sprinkle roots with Kornevina powder.

Gently press the ground around the seedling

Before placing the sapling of cabbage in the hole, sprinkle the roots with Kornevin powder, a small amount, just a little powder. Put the plant in the hole. Hold with one hand and sprinkle with the second up to the cotyledon leaves. Then gently press the ground around the plant with your palms down so that the roots hit the right place and there is no void around the ground.

Cabbage loves water

Cabbage seedlings planted

After we have planted all the seedlings, it is again necessary to water the holes well, now with the plants. The amount of water for each is at least 1 liter. Water gently, do not pour on the plant, only around it, so as not to wash it out of the ground. Water and so will go where it should be - to the roots. The earlier the seedlings get the water, the better. Approximately 15-20 minutes after watering, some seedlings may settle, fall on its side. Therefore, you should again go through the beds, straighten the seedlings, pouring the earth to the stalk. After another half an hour, it is necessary to water the seedlings again - again not less than a liter per root. After that, wet tree trunks should be mulched, for example, with dry earth. This is done so that the crust does not form from the sun or wind.

So, our seedlings are planted. Now all care comes down to inspections and watering. While our seedlings do not require a large amount of nutrients.

But when you grow 6-7 true leaves, you can begin feeding. These dressings should consist mainly of organic fertilizers, that is, humus or manure. But, of course, now no longer need to use fresh manure, but only its solution - 1:10. This is almost all that cabbage needs, since it loves organic matter very much.

In addition to manure, there is another potent nutrient - nettle. It is necessary to collect about 5 kg of nettle, put it in a barrel, pour water. Nettle should be a little bored. Water this plants. Alternate this watering with watering manure.

These measures are enough to grow a wonderful crop.

In addition, the soil around the cabbage will need to be loosened after each watering, as she loves oxygen.

And you will need to spud. But this is already when the heads of the sky begin to curl. Then she will begin to rise above the ground, she will have a leg. To the cabbage did not fall, you will need to rake the ground to it.

But most importantly, do not forget to water it. It is better to pour than underfill.

Cabbage is a rather unpretentious plant, but various problems can arise. They usually appear when the heads are already large enough and can be eaten.

Cabbage damaged by butterfly moth

If the cabbage is not to be watched, then the moths will do their “dirty deed” - only holes can remain from the leaves. Of course, they will not eat the whole heading, but they can spoil it. How to deal with it? There are many chemical plant protection products against pests. They can be used on late cabbage varieties, when the harvest is still far away. But in summer varieties, the use of chemistry is undesirable.

I suggest a simple ancient way - garlic. As soon as you see the butterflies, take three large heads of garlic, peel, chop all the cloves, cover with 5 liters of water, soak for about a week. Strain, spray this garlic tincture on your cabbage. It is desirable, of course, by the time of the beginning of the summer of butterflies to have such a tincture. Garlic tincture will scare away butterflies from heads and caterpillars on it.

Observing these simple guidelines for growing cabbage seedlings, planting seedlings and caring for them, the harvest will always be excellent.

Gardener's calendar, March 9, 2016

According to the national calendar: Ivanov day - the day when the birds begin to build nests. On this day, they were watched: if the birds started to build nests on the sunny side, then the summer was expected to be cold. The song is tits for warmth, and the snow is for the cold at Easter (in 2016, Easter will be May 1st).

According to the lunar calendar: 1 lunar day before 7.07, after 7.07 - 2 lunar day. New moon. A good day to buy seeds and sow plants with edible fruits. Transplantation of indoor plants is not recommended.

Cabbage is one of the most popular garden crops, which can be grown almost everywhere, except for the desert and the Far North. Most often, cabbage is grown in a seedling way, especially early varieties of white cabbage; some species, medium and late varieties are sown directly into the ground.

Terms of sowing different types of cabbage on seedlings and in the ground for central Russia and Moscow region
cabbage white and red - for hybrids and early varieties - March 10-25, for medium and late varieties - April 10-30,
broccoli - it is possible to sow from the middle of March to the end of May, with an interval of 10-20 days,
cauliflower - mid-March-late May, with an interval of 10-20 days,
Brussels sprouts - from the middle to the end of April,
kohlrabi cabbage - from March 10-20 to the end of June, with an interval of 10-20 days,
Savoy cabbage - for early-ripening varieties from March 10 to March 30, for middle-ripening varieties - from March 15 to April 15, for late ripening from April 1 to 15.

In the Urals and Siberia, the sowing time for cabbage seedlings slightly shifted compared with the timing for central Russia. For early varieties of white cabbage is April 10-15, and for medium and late varieties - the end of April.

In the south of Russia, the sowing time on the contrary, shifted to February. You can sow early varieties of cabbage in early February. Ready cabbage seedlings are planted in the ground in April.

Sowing white cabbage seedlings
By the time of maturation white cabbage is divided into early ripening, mid ripening and late ripening. She has different planting dates: early sorts of cabbage are sown on seedlings from early March until the 25th of a month, seeds of varieties of average ripening time are sown from March 25 to April 25, and late varieties from the beginning to the end of April.

The most suitable days for sowing in March: - 9-15, 18, 20-22, 30 and in April: 8-9, 13, 20.
Cabbage seedlings are planted in a permanent place at the age of 45-50 days; ready seedlings should have a well-developed root system and at least 4-5 true leaflets.

Sowing cauliflower seedlings
Early cauliflower can be sown already in the middle - end of March, the most successful day of the Lunar calendar 2016 falls on March 30, and you can still sow on March 9-10 and March 21. Cauliflower for permanent production can be sown in several stages:
Stage 1: for obtaining early cauliflower - mid-end of March (favorable days for the Lunar calendar of 2016 - 15 tons on March 30),
Stage 2: end of March - mid-April (favorable days for the Lunar calendar of 2016 - April 9, you can also sow 13),
Stage 3: end of April - mid-May (favorable days according to the Lunar calendar 2016 - April 20, May 9-11, may also be May 14-15).
Stage 4: The end of May is mid-June (favorable days for the 2016 Lunar Calendar are June 6-7 and June 20-21, and can also be June 11-12).

The age of seedlings from sowing seeds to planting in open ground should be:
cabbage white and red: hybrids and early varieties - 45-60 days, middle-ripening - 35-45 days, late-ripening - 30-35 days,
broccoli - 35-45 days
Brussels sprouts and cauliflower - 45-50 days
kohlrabi cabbage - 30-35 days
Savoy cabbage - 35-50 days.

Sowing cabbage in open ground
If necessary, cabbage can be sown directly into the ground. True, this is only possible for early varieties of white cabbage, broccoli, kohlrabi and Chinese cabbage. If at the beginning of April the bed is covered with foil, then by mid-April the soil will be warm enough to sow cabbage under the foil. And since May, cabbage can be sown in open ground. Peking cabbage and kohlrabi are sown until the end of July.

Favorable days in the lunar calendar 2016 for sowing cabbage on seedlings and in the ground:
February: 2, 9-14, 17-21,
March: 9, 10, 21, 30,
in April: 8, 9, 13, 20,
May: 9-11, 14-15, 19,
June: 6-7, 11-12, 18, 20-21.

Avoid sowing. adverse dayswhich in 2016 will fall:

  • in February: 7, 8, 22 (after 21.00),
  • March: 1-2, 5-8, 23, 25, 26-29,
  • April: 2-7, 22-26, 29-30,
  • May: 6, 22-23, 25-28,

New moon in 2016 it will be February 8, March 9, April 7, May 6, June 5, Full moon - February 22, March 23, April 22, May 22 and June 20. These days, astrologers advise to refrain from working with plants.

Folk omens and secrets of the lunar calendar
An interesting point: in addition to the lunar calendar, our ancestors also took into account the days of the week! According to their observations should not be planted and sown on Fridays, it is undesirable on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, you should refrain from picking cabbage and planting seedlings in open ground.
And of course, no crops can be carried out when your heart is heavy, this will have the most negative impact on plant growth and development.

Sowing cabbage seeds for seedlings

Looking at the favorable days for sowing cabbage, get down to business. I will note that cabbage seeds do not require any preparation, they should not be soaked or processed in stimulants. It is rather difficult to grow good cabbage seedlings at home, and this is because the culture is cold-loving and our room temperature does not suit it. The best seedlings are obtained in the spring greenhouse outside. To do this, immediately after the snow melted, build a small greenhouse in which the seedlings will grow. You can sow cabbage seeds at home, in ordinary wooden or plastic boxes. I cook soil mixture from sod land, humus and sand. In principle, you can take any ready-made mixture, as long as it is breathable and fertile. Cabbage seeds are buried about 0.5 cm deep. After sowing, the soil should be slightly compacted and carefully poured with room-temperature water from a spray bottle to prevent the soil from eroding. Until seedlings no longer water!

Shoots of cabbage appear in 10-12 days. Before the emergence of shoots, the boxes with crops can be kept at home, at a temperature of + 20- + 22 degrees, but after the shoots, you need to transfer them to a greenhouse on the street. Some gardeners grow cabbage seedlings in greenhouses, keeping the temperature there within 10-15 degrees.

Cabbage is a moisture-loving culture, water it with settled water with a temperature slightly warmer than the environment. With timely watering, good lighting and optimum temperature, cabbage seedlings turn out to be strong and stocky.

For the prevention of cabbage seedling disease with a black leg, pour it with a light pink solution of potassium permanganate (at the rate of 3 grams per 10 liters of water). It was also possible to add a little ash to the soil mixture, it also helps to escape from the black leg.

After the appearance of two or three true leaves of cabbage seedlings need to be seated in separate cups. After transplantation, the root system begins to grow stronger, and with good roots the plants develop better and faster.

When planting cabbage in open ground

There is a very early cabbage, which has already ripened by the end of June, forming tight, juicy heads, there are varieties ripening in the middle of summer, and there are varieties that are harvested only in late October - they are intended for late storage. In addition to the white cabbage, there is cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, Peking, red, Savoy, broccoli, kohlrabi, decorative. The choice of variety and type depends on your needs.

Sowing seeds for seedlings

The technology of growing seedlings of cabbage is the same for any species. Its seeds resemble the seeds of radish, yet they belong to the same cruciferous family, but a little smaller.

Cabbage is grown mainly through seedlings. It is extremely cold-loving, light-loving plant. The home microclimate for her is absolute nonsense. She simply cannot live in such a microclimate. The maximum that she is capable of at home is to climb, but she will immediately grow heavy, the color will turn pale green, then yellow, and then she will disappear. Houses cabbage seedlings will not be able to grow. Cold and light are important to her.

Therefore, cabbage seedlings need to grow, roughly speaking, almost on the street. It is necessary to make the so-called cold breeding ground. How to make it? Very simple.

You take the usual box, you can even use the balcony for flowers.

Capacity for seedlings of cabbage

Sown seeds should be watered well.

Fill it with soil. Soak, warm cabbage seeds do not need. You can sow them in rows, and you can vzrazbros. It is not so important. After sowing, it is important to lightly sprinkle the seeds with earth, lightly tread and lightly pour over the top. Cabbage is a moisture-loving plant, so there will be no harm from abundant watering.

This seed box cannot be left at home. We must bring it to the cottage or bring it to the garden. If you still have snow, then otgrebite it, put on a cold ground box with sown seeds. The place should be open, heated by the sun. From above you set the arc, stretch the film. So this will be your hotbed until germination. Shoots will appear in ten or twelve days.

If you have already installed a greenhouse, then bring the hotbed inside, additional arches with a film will no longer be needed. An additional greenhouse will need to be done only for cauliflower seedlings, as it is afraid of frost. But the White, Brussels, Savoy, etc., do not need additional shelter, they tolerate frosts down to -5 ° C.

If you have a stationary greenhouse, for example, a glass one, then the seeds can be sown simply into the ground of the greenhouse without any breeding ground, since the land there is very well heated by the sun in early spring.

So, a cold breeding ground is the main secret of a good cabbage harvest.

And of course, no crops can be carried out when your heart is heavy, this will have the most negative impact on the growth and development of plants.

Gardening can not do without the use of tools such as saws. They are especially needed when removing thick branches, which the lopper cannot already handle. All WOLF-Garten saws have an excellent quality and sharpening method that provides a perfectly smooth cut. Cut down by such a tool, plant sites less than others can be infected and, as a result, heal faster. Plants will repeatedly thank you for using such a tool. Made in Germany. Warranty 10 years.

Growing cabbage

How to start growing cabbage seedlings? It is logical to assume that with the selection of seeds. Decide what you will grow cabbage for: early consumption of salads, for storage, for fermentation? Or for that and for another? Depending on this, choose proven, good varieties of cabbage. I usually buy 1 bag of early cabbage, 1 bag of sauerkraut and 1-2 for storage. A family of 3 people is enough for us.

When to plant cabbage on seedlings

Early varieties of cabbage are sown from early March to 25-28 of the month, medium varieties from March 25 to April 25, late varieties from early April to the 20th of the month.

It is necessary to plant cabbage seedlings in open ground 30 days after emergence. But on the saplings there should not be more than 3-4 leaflets, then the cabbage yield is better and the cabbages are large and beautiful. If the planting is a bit late, then the harvest will also be later and not so high. I plant cabbage in a staggered manner with a distance of about 50 cm between plants. First, I dig a hole deeper, about 20 cm. At the bottom of the hole I put about a glass of humus or manure and a tablespoon of ash, sprinkle it on a layer of earth, and water it abundantly. So first I prepare all the holes and start planting. Seedlings gently put in the hole and sprinkle with soil to the cotyledon leaves. The soil around the plant is slightly compacted so that there is no void around the roots.

If you have had a poor seedling in past years, then there is an easy way to fix it. With the drug Kornevin (root formation stimulant), any seedling survives almost 100%. Before planting the seedling in the hole, lightly powder its roots with this preparation. That's the whole trick, but the seedlings will take root easier.

After planting seedlings in the ground, each planted plant should be watered with 1 liter of water. It is necessary to water carefully so as not to wash the seedling from the ground. If, after watering, the soil around the plant has subsided, you need to add it, and if the plant has collapsed, return it to a vertical position. After an hour, pour the cabbage again and again with the same amount of water - at least 1 liter for each plant. Then, so that a crust does not form around the plant on the soil, mumble dry soil or humus.

Top dressing cabbage

Cabbage loves organic fertilizer. But you need to start making them when the seedlings will have 6-7 true leaves. The best fertilizer for cabbage is manure and humus. But now you need to use only the slurry, that is, the infusion in the ratio of 1:10. If there is no manure, an infusion of nettle will do. For this, half of any container (such as a barrel) is half-clogged with nettles and filled with water. Nettle infused for several days (fermented). And then diluting this infusion with water we feed up the cabbage.

You can alternate dressing infusion of mullein and nettle, then the cabbage is nothing more unnecessary for full growth. All care for it will consist in timely watering (frequent) and as heads are formed (so that they do not fill up), it will be necessary to rake up the soil to the stem, that is, to do hilling the cabbage.

If you have your own methods of growing white cabbage seedlings, please share them with us. And what do you feed cabbage?

Leather-radish

There are different varieties of cabbage. And usually they are planted at different times. Planted in open ground, depending on the weather conditions around. If it is cold, then the disembarkation is carried out not earlier than April. If the ground is closed - then the cabbage is planted much earlier.

It is necessary to plant seedlings cabbage in open ground in early May. Before this, seedlings at home should grow for a month and a half. It can be planted using the non-seed method, some gardeners do this, but I personally have never been able to grow cabbage with this method.

It depends on the cabbage variety. Early varieties of white cabbage are recommended to be planted from April 25 to May 5, unless of course there is no frost. Late varieties - from 10 to 20 May. And mid-season varieties - from 20 to 31 May. The deadline for landing is June 1.

Cabbage planted in the ground, depending on the age of the seedlings. Usually cabbage. seedlings are planted

early varieties in late April and early May

mid-season and late varieties of white cabbage in the second and third decade of May.

It depends on what region you live in. I usually grow seedlings at home and after 40 days (usually at the end of May) I plant it in open ground. Naturally, I watch the weather forecast so that the frosts are over.

When to plant Peking cabbage in open ground?

Peking cabbage belongs to the cabbage family and its close relative is turnip. Like turnips, Peking cabbage is sown after July 10, when the day is already beginning to shrink. If you sow it in May or early June, then it will shoot itself and instead of heads will get seeds. But this rule is not always respected. This plant is very popular in Asia and there are many varieties, including resistant to bolting. There are also varieties of radish, which are not sensitive to the length of the day, there are also varieties of Chinese cabbage. But usually in our manazin they sell seeds of those varieties that are shooted and to avoid disappointment, sow Peking cabbage on July 10-15. Prepare a covering material in advance, because the cruciferous flea can attack the seedlings, and under shelter Peking cabbage will not be available to it.

Beijing cabbage should be planted or in early spring, it grows well in a greenhouse, or in the middle of summer after July 15. If you plant cabbage in May-June, then it is very likely that it will go to the arrow. It is best to cover planting lutrasilom or spanbodom, likes this plant eat cruciferous flea.
