Each of us has a certain period of life on the planet. And this concerns not only people, each animal has its own average and maximum age, and each plant. However, most often we don’t even imagine how many years trees live? How old can a mountain ash and a birch live? How long can an oak tree, a pine tree and a linden tree live? What are the prospects for longevity of an apple tree, and how long can it be for olive, lemon, peach and other trees? Let's try to answer these questions in detail, and also find out what tree lives the longest.
How long does a rowan tree live?
Many consider this plant as a tree, but in essence it is a large shrub. This culture is capable of reaching ten meters, and its edible and highly useful fruits are the main value. Rowan is able to live up to a hundred years, it is extremely rare that its life exceeds this date.
How many years does a birch tree live?
This tree is considered one of the symbols of Russia, it can be found in many parts of our country. Such a culture has not only an attractive appearance, but is also characterized by a mass of medicinal qualities. And the term of his life is not very large - about a hundred years.
How many oak trees live?
This tree is one of the cultures of long-lived. Its age can reach two thousand years. However, the average life expectancy of an oak is three to four hundred years. Up to one hundred and fifty years, this tree is able to grow in height, and its thickness increases throughout the life of the plant. In this case, the first color appears on the oak only at the age of twenty or thirty.
How many pine trees live?
The usual forest pine lives about three hundred or five hundred years. The amazing property of this plant lies in its stunning ecological plasticity, in other words it can be found in the Arctic Circle, in the extreme south, and in the plain, and at high mountains. Pines can grow in swamps and sand sands, chalk or gypsum cliffs and even on bare granite rock.
The life span of cedar European pine is twice as long — it can live up to a thousand years.
This tree can grow for a long time, on average, its life expectancy is three hundred or four hundred years, and individual cultures are able to grow for more than a thousand years. Lipa is an amazing plant, because it is used in industry and medicine, both in the official and in the people. And this tree is recognized as the most valuable honey plant.
It is believed that the most durable are wild apple trees, their age can reach one hundred and even one hundred and fifty years. And the average life of a garden tree is about fifty years. The very first garden trees, which reproduce without vaccination, grow more - up to eighty years, and some cultures are able to please the owners with a crop only twenty-five years.
How old is the olive tree?
Olive trees belong to long-livers, there are cultures whose age reaches two thousand years. However, some varieties of such plants do not step over and turn in twenty years.
When the olive is grown from the seed, it begins to give fruit only from ten to twelve years of age, and when it is cultivated from cuttings, three to four years after planting. So it's worth thinking about how to manage the time allotted to the tree.
How many years does a lemon tree live?
The life span of a lemon tree directly depends on whether it is grown on a plantation or in indoor conditions. In the first case, the duration of his life is on average one hundred or two hundred years, and in the second, it does not exceed seventy years.
How many years does the peach tree live?
This tree, as well as the apple tree, is quite short-lived, which is most likely explained by the conditions for its cultivation. So in Russia, a peach tree usually lives from five to twenty years, and its life in Turkey and Greece can reach hundreds of years.
Other fruit trees
Pears can also live for a short time — about a hundred years, but if they are cultivated in central Russia, their age is unlikely to exceed seventy years.
As for cherries and apricots, in the southern lands they grow for about seventy years, and sometimes more, and in more unfavorable territories - only twenty-five to thirty years.
Experts say that the age of life of fruit plants is largely determined by the speed of their entry into fruiting. The faster the tree begins to bear fruit after planting, the less it will live as a whole.
The walnut known to everyone and everyone lives about four hundred years. This culture is considered one of the most useful for humans, because almost every part of it can be used for a variety of purposes - as food, medicine or industrial raw materials.
Which tree has the longest life?
Experts say that the most ancient tree can rightly be called Australian macrozamia, whose age has reached almost fifteen thousand years. In second place are the Mexican cypress trees, they managed to reach the border of ten thousand years. Following them is a dragon tree, whose age is a maximum of six thousand years.
Mammoth trees from California and baobabs are also considered to be longevity champions, the maximum age of these crops is five thousand years.
The most ancient trees of Russia can be called representatives of the berry yew tree, which grow in the city of Sochi, or rather, in the yew-grove. Such trees live about two thousand years.
We talked with you how many trees live. The longevity of each plant depends on many factors, including the growing conditions.
How many years does birch live?
Here it is worth noting the fact that it is difficult to reliably answer this question: it is impossible to keep track of the second, tenth or hundredth tree. In addition, there is a birch many different species and subspecies, each of which has a number of external features and its longevity.
Known to many Karelian birch lives relatively short, compared with other trees, time: only 30−50 years.
But her common "relative" hung or warty, it can live to 120. But along with them there are long-livers, whose age counts the fourth, if not the fifth century.
If we talk about the "average" values, they fluctuate in the region of 100−300 years. But this is not the limit: during all this time the birch has been diligently developing, stretching to a height and growing long branches. And when growth stops, the movement in the trunk of nutrients begins to slow down gradually - the tree is able to live in this state for more than one year.
Now it is not so often possible to find an oak grove in Russia. But if you happen to be in one, then you immediately realize the mystery and majesty of these trees. Maybe they don't sing songs about them, but they make legends. Oak - the personification of strength, wisdom and longevity.
It grows mainly nand territories located in the northern hemisphere. Starting the way with a small and slender tree, over the years, the oak acquires its inherent massiveness: a sprawling crown in height can reach 40 meters, and the circumference of already “held” trunks is 9 meters, which is also quite a lot.
The tree is also known for its healing properties: a decoction of oak bark has good anti-inflammatory qualities and is used in traditional medicine. And acorns are an excellent ingredient for relieving cramps, swelling and inflammation.
How many years does the oak tree live?
This is a tree ranked as one of the most long-lived. And it is not so easy - oak is able to pass through fire and water, reaching two thousand years! But it is worth making a reservation: the average life expectancy of one of the “representatives” of the oak forest varies from 300 to 450 years. And only in favorable conditions can these years stretch into tens of centuries.
The first 100−150 years, the oak is actively developing, blossoming only by 20, or even by 30 years. But the diameter of its trunk increases throughout its life, overgrowing with new layers of bark.
There are two especially old and therefore remarkable trees on the planet:
- Mamre oak for nearly two thousand years growing in Palestine. He is so old that even in the Bible there is a mention of him: once upon a time, very long ago it was under this tree that the patriarch Abraham accepted God.
- And in Lithuania you can find Stelmuzhsky oak - the oldest tree in all of Europe. If you believe the sources mentioning him, then he is at least a century older than his sacred "comrade."
We are all familiar with this unremarkable externally tree. Botanists and scientists count about 45 types of linden and more than 100 of their hybrid varieties. It gained popularity thanks to inflorescences and lime honey, one of the most delicious and healthy.
An interesting fact: in June 1848 the Czech Republic recognized the lime tree as its national symbol.
The tree has a spreading crown, pulling out in height to 30 meters. The trunk in power with oak can not be compared, but you can not call it “slim” - it can be up to three meters in diameter. The leaves are predominantly oval or closer to the shape of the “heart”. But much more interesting is the linden color: the yellowish flowers of this tree are fragrant, they are brewed with tea and added to healing preparations.
How long does linden live?
Not everyone will call this tree a great long-liver, but linden is able to grow and live for quite a long time. The average life expectancy is 300−400 years, and this is almost half a millennium. However, in good conditions or with artificial planting with proper care, certain varieties of linden trees can calmly survive the turn of 1,000 years.
Among her species, too, there are wonderful rarities:
- On the territory of the lake of the quiet city of Svetlogorsk a linden monument grows, whose age has jumped the mark of 450 years.
- Westonbirt Arboretum is located in Glousenshire, among other exhibits of which you can find the oldest lime tree. The age of the stump, on which many young trees now grow, is about two thousand years. And some sources claim that the ancient hemp is over 5 thousand years old!
The beauty of the maples long won the hearts of people, they are especially beautiful in the fall. How many poems have dedicated poets of different times to this tree, how many times he was captured on the canvases of artists. In Japan, there are even catalogs and travel guides from which you can find the most beautiful places where maple grows. But not only beauty is famous for this tree. Carpenters, for example, are very fond of him for the quality of wood, and folk healers for their healing properties. This tree can be found in the forests of many countries. Botanists account for about one hundred and fifty species of maple. In Russia, more than ten varieties of this wonderful tree grow. This article will describe some species of this plant. And you will learn about the duration of maple life.
Economic value and application
Perhaps these are shocking figures, but we recommend that you read it.

Oak bark and wood are the source for one of the best tanning agents. For the tanning industry, oak bark aged 15–20 years is considered the best. Since its bark is a beautiful tanning agent, it is used directly as a tanning material, and tanning extracts are produced from wood. In practice, the bulk of tannins are obtained from waste wood industry, which are usually at least 20%. Having a large mass, oak tree is one of the main sources for the production of tannins. First-class tanning extracts obtained from oak are the basis of modern tanning production.
Maple is a very common tree species. It can often be found in parks and squares, as well as in deciduous forests. But despite this, this tree is not dominant, most often maple grows in nature as an "admixture" to various dominant tree species. Translated from the Latin "maple" means "sharp." This tree has received such name for the peaked form of leaves. Maple, numbering more than a hundred species, can be found in Europe, Asia, South and North America, North Africa.
Here is the corresponding table.12↑
). Raw materials are harvested from young shoots during the sap flow from April to June. Dry it, spreading out a thin layer in well-ventilated areas, as well as in the sun.
Oak wood has a beautiful color and texture. It is dense, strong, resilient, well preserved in air, in the ground and under water, moderately cracked and jarred, easily pricked, resistant to decay and home fungus.
Maple is a dioecious plant with small pale-green flowers. The fruits of the maple tree are two winged sunflower seeds that are fused together, which after ripening disintegrate. It should be noted that maple seeds can germinate at zero temperature, even if there is snow around. This is no longer seen in any tree. Despite the great diversity of these trees, they are all united by a wide angular-rounded shape with pointed protrusions. This form is called palmate-lobed. In autumn, the leaves turn from green to bright orange, red, brown, yellow. Because of such a riot of colors, maple is often referred to as a decorative plant species.

- The bark has astringent, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and hemostatic properties. Broth bark used for rinsing the mouth and throat with gingivitis, stomatitis, sore throat, bad breath and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the pharynx and larynx, in the form of baths, washings and compresses used to treat burns, frostbite, ulcers and other skin diseases, for foot baths with sweating of the feet, for washing the bleeding hemorrhoids, drinking with diarrhea, dysentery, poisoning with alkaloids and heavy metal salts, gastrointestinal bleeding, heavy menstruation.Durable and durable oak wood has long been used in shipbuilding, furniture industry, in the construction of mine ("miner rack") and hydraulic structures (bridges, mills), residential buildings, for the production of parquet, sleepers, doors, frames, for the manufacture of rims, polozkov , plywood and sliced veneer, turning and carving products, parts of horse-drawn carts: dyshel, shafts, streaks, wheels. Oak wood does not have a special smell, barrels for brandy are made from it, wine (tannins contained in oak wood give a peculiar taste and aroma to drinks), beer, alcohol, vinegar, and oil.
- Maples root system is superficial. It breeds with shoots and seeds. The tree is very light-loving, the special form of the crown and the folded leaves help to collect the maximum amount of light. Also, the tree is thermophilic and drought-resistant, in the northern regions may suffer from severe frosts and severe winters. Maple also has the amazing ability to cry. Even with a slight increase in air humidity, droplets ("tears") begin to fall from the stalks of tree leaves. In the following, some species of maples will be described in more detail.Http://flower.onego.ru/kustar/betula.htmlQuince

The custom of burying the dead in wooden coffins, borrowed by Christianity from the beliefs of Slavic and other Indo-European tribes, was spread throughout almost all of Northern Europe (both Eastern and Western). It was established that in these territories at one time was characterized by the burial of the dead in decks, log cabins or coffins made of various types of wood, including oak. In this respect, oak wood already acquires a certain ritual character (hence the comic expression “give oak”, in the sense of “die”, “die”). Echoes of these traditions have reached our days in the usual painting of pine (or from other cheap softwood) coffins "under the oak."It is believed that maple lives from two hundred to three hundred years. Many scientists claim that the age of some species can reach five centuries! In our latitudes maple life span is about a hundred years. Non-commercial oak wood goes for firewood, provides excellent fuel with high calorific value.Life expectancy of this maple species is 200-300 years. But rare trees reach this age. Many factors affect maple life span: pests, diseases, and even humans. The most common pests of maple are ash wood, maple archery, all sorts of herbivorous mites. On tree trunks and branches parasitize apple treeworm-gunner, acacia spatula, willow scythe. Maple kidney mite damages the buds of the tree. On the trunks of maples you can often find a parasitic tinder fungus. The leaves of the tree damage dark brown and red brown spots. It is worth considering another factor that influences how much maple grows. The lifespan of a tree often depends on the person. Bees collect a lot of highly nourishing pollen on it, in some years nectar is collected from female flowers. But on the oak there is often honeydew and pad. In places where the oak occupies large tracts, the bees collect a lot of honeydew and honeydew, from which honey honey is used to produce unsuitable for winter eating. In order to avoid mass death of bees during wintering, such honey is pumped out.
The second name is sycamore. This type of maple grows in the Caucasus and the Carpathians. Also found in eastern countries and western Europe. The tree is very slender and tall, has a dense spherical pyramidal crown. The bark of the sycamore grayish-brown, gradually cracks with age, and under it you can see a young, lighter one. The leaves are large, in length reach twenty centimeters. The shape of the leaves is heart-shaped, five-lobed. Maple is blooming in mid-late May with small yellow flowers.Rowan grows for the first 15–20 years quickly, bears fruit annually from 8–10 years of age, lives to 100 years, although some trees live to 200 years.Sea buckthorn.
3Common oak is used in green construction as an ornamental and phytoncide plant when creating suburban groves, avenues, curtains, single plantations in parks and forest parks. Such ornamental forms of common oak are known: with a pyramidal crown and a form in which the foliage falls 15 to 20 days later than that of an ordinary.Oak leaves contain pigment-quicitin, which, depending on the concentration, dyes wool and felted products in yellow, green, greenish-yellow, brown and black. Light resistant durable dye for carpets and tapestries is obtained from the bark. This tree reaches a height of forty meters - a real giant among maples. The annual growth is large enough - forty centimeters in width and fifty in height. Because it is easy to calculate how many years maple grows to achieve such gigantic proportions. The crown of this representative fauna is powerful, openwork. The branches are slightly drooping. Young maple bark is a light gray color, young shoots are bright red. The leaves are large, five-lobed, strongly dissected, whitish or gray-gray from below. In autumn they turn light yellow. This type of maple is moisture-loving, frost-resistant, prefers open lighted areas. It is found in North America.
Among the trees of our forests, linden lives for a very long time: on average, up to 300-400 years, and some individuals live up to 1200 years..80 years.
Common oak is recommended as the main breed in forest melioration plantings, in forest shelter belts, in erosion plantings on beams and ravines, on washed-off soils. It can be planted along irrigation canals, since its root system does not drain the walls of the canals and does not destroy their cover.Oak acorns are a highly nutritious food for domestic pigs. However, there are cases of poisoning with acorns (especially green ones) of other domestic animals. The most sensitive to poisoning are cows (especially milch ones) and horses, sheep are less sensitive. Single oak trees bear fruit annually, in plantations abundant fruiting is repeated after 4-8 years, and in the north of the range less frequently than in the south. Individual trees give up to 40-100 kg of acorns. The yield of acorns in the oak forest is 700–2000 kg / ha.This species grows in China and the Far East. The tree in height reaches twenty meters. Crohn openwork, rounded shape. The bark is a light gray color with small cracks. The leaves are trifoliate, thin and elegant. The color of the leaves changes three times a year: in the spring - red-orange, in the summer - dark green, and in the fall - purple-red. Blooming maple large lemon yellow flowers. The plant tolerates transplantation, as the root system is shallow.Oak lives up to 800 years, birch is only about 100 years old.

1200 years↑7The raw materials for obtaining tanning extracts from oak wood are hemp, roots, as well as waste of logging and woodworking industry in the form of logs in the bark or without bark. For tanning hides, oak bark is harvested from young trees (up to the age of 20). On older trees, a crust is formed, which is completely unsuitable and even harmful when used for tanning. Bark can be harvested at any time of the year, but it is better during the sap flow (April - May) during the main logging and thinning. Removed from the trunks and branches of the bark dried under a canopy with good ventilation. The relative humidity of dry bark should not exceed 16%.
In the old days, painful growths on oak leaves, caused by gall midges, “ink nuts,” were used to prepare ink.
Maple inspires artists to write pictures, photographers make "pilgrimages" to the autumn forest in order to stop a wonderful moment. So by all means go to the autumn park to enjoy the unique colors. And if you have a plot, then plant a maple in your garden. The life span of a tree is very long, and therefore not only your children, but even grandchildren will be able to enjoy the coolness in its shady foliage in the summer, and in the fall to admire the outfit of this bright tree.
Oak lives up to 800 years, birch is only about 100 years old.
The time of ripening and collecting seeds is September - October. The maximum storage time (without special equipment) is 1 year.
The bark contains 10–20% tannins of the pyrogallic group, gallic and ellagic acids, quercetin, also sugar and fats. Acorns contain up to 40% starch, 5-8% tannins, proteins, sugars, fatty oil - up to 5%. Tanning substances quercetin and quercetin, as well as pentosans, are found in the leaves. The wood content of tannins is 4-6%.
Tree Life, Pine
Pine is a very common tree in European forests of Russia and the taiga. More than 20% of the forested area of the former USSR is occupied by pine (Pinus sylvestris), whose life span is only 300 years. “Total” because other types of pine trees - European cedar (Pinuscembra) and Siberian cedar (Pinussibirica) live a little longer - 1000 and 500 years, respectively.

An unforgettable feeling is to be near a long-lived tree. Just think, these are the most ancient living beings on earth! They are eyewitnesses to all the great events of human civilization. Awareness of this fact alone is fascinating.
The most long-lived trees on our planet include common spruce. The age of the oldest spruce is estimated at 9550 years, it grows in the Swedish province of Dolarna. Interestingly, the fir does not look old at all. Scientists have analyzed genetic information and discovered an unexpected coincidence: according to them, a slender spruce on Mount Fulu has the same genetic material as the remains under it. It turns out after the withering away of an ancient tree, for unknown reasons, gave a young escape, thereby prolonging his life.
The following in the list of long-lived trees include sequoia and baobab. Their age can reach 5,000 years. In addition, the sequoia is one of the tallest trees on the planet, the height of individual specimens reaches 115 meters. The bark of the Californian redwood is very thick, in some places up to 30 centimeters. It possesses one unusual property: in contact with fire, it becomes charred and turns into thermal protection for the tree. When you walk among these giants, it seems that you got into a fairy tale.
Baobab is one of the thickest: the circumference of its trunk can be 9–10 meters, while it is small in height, only 18–25 meters. A unique feature of baobab is the ability to absorb up to 120 thousand liters of water. Under the thick bark of a tree are soft and porous tissues that absorb water like a sponge and are necessary for the survival of a tree during a long drought in Africa.
Third place in the list of long-lived trees occupy Yew and tree Banyan.
Their age can reach 3,000 years. Banyan, or, as it is also called, the tree-forest, has not one, but thousands of trunks.
At an altitude of 3000 meters on the border of California and Nevada in the United States, where these pines grow, there is a very harsh habitat: the soil is poor in nutrients and rainfall is rare. It is surprising that they live in such conditions for thousands of years, whereas no plant can survive nearby.
