All sorts of types of green beans and grain beans have long and with pleasure been used by humans for food, as fodder crops and siderats. But at the same time, one more role of the plant is not forgotten. Curly beans are decorative and for three and a half centuries they have taken pride of place among the green decorations of the garden, the greenhouse and even the modest balcony.

The advantage of decorative curly beans is:

  • high growth rate, which makes it possible to plant large vertical surfaces during the spring-summer season,
  • unpretentiousness
  • a variety of shapes and colors appearing on the shoots of inflorescences,
  • long preservation of attractiveness due to the presence of not only spectacular inflorescences, but also pods, sometimes striking an unusual appearance,
  • the ability to use green mass of the plant for green fertilizers and composts,
  • soil enrichment with nitrogen accumulating on the roots of plants of this family.

The only thing that needs to be considered when planting beans is the heat-loving nature of the plant and the need of the culture for light and abundant nutrition.

Properly using the ability of the plant to climb to a height of 2 to 5 meters and combining different varieties of climbing beans, you can equip unusual green arbours, create arches in the garden and ennoble the most unpresentable corners and hedges.

It is important that for gardening today several independent species are used, belonging to the legume family, but having unique properties and appearance. Moreover, all these cultures are valued both as ornamental and vegetable plants.

Common Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Common beans of climbing varieties are well known and loved by Russian gardeners. An annual plant, originally from Latin America, perfectly combines the properties of a vegetable, supplying green pods and mature seeds to a table, and a high decorative effect. Curly beans in height can reach from 1.5 to 3 meters, a month after sowing forms the first inflorescences, and with proper care, dressing and watering flowering and the formation of pods continues until mid-autumn.

Components of the decorative effect are small, but numerous flowers of different colors, and dense foliage, and pods of varying degree of maturity hanging from the stems. Regular harvesting of green beans on many varieties of curling beans stimulates the formation of new buds, which prolongs the age of living pavilions and fences.

Turkish beans (Phaseolus coccineus)

If the flowers of an ordinary bean, depending on the variety, can be white, lilac, pinkish or creamy, then Turkish beans or, as this catchy plant is also called, the fiery red beans strike the scarlet inflorescences. Interestingly, this species, which fell on the territory of Russia for two centuries before the usual vegetable beans, did not find wide distribution as a garden plant, but firmly settled in greenhouses and gardens.

Turkish beans are very unpretentious and with minimal care grow to 3-4.5 meters. When planted early, the plants bloom from mid-June until the end of September. If only recently the dacha plots were decorated with vines, blooming only with bright red racemes, today there are varieties of climbing beans, giving two-colored, salmon, maroon and completely white flowers.

Plants are distinguished by numerous large foliage, which, like most legumes, has three divided lobes. In the presence of a strong support, the lashes willingly climb to a great height, easily weaving over the grids, fences and even the crowns of trees.

Young pods of this type of curling decorative beans are inedible because of the hard fibers and substances harmful to human digestion. The folds of such beans are densely pubescent. Inside the pod can be from three to six seeds of violet-pink color, which is characterized by contrasting dark strokes over the entire surface.

Mature seeds after soaking to taste and nutritional value are not inferior to shelling beans of cultivated varieties.

At the summer cottage, Turkish beans can be used to create vertical gardening and to create green shelters from the wind for heat-loving crops, such as eggplants, melons and gourds.

Dolichos purple (Lablab purpureus)

Another spectacular annual plant of the legume family is rightly called curly lilac. With this ornamental shrub dolichos, lablab or hyacinth beans have a shade of flowers and a kind of large, combining up to four dozen buds, inflorescences.

In Russia and other regions with a temperate climate, this water of decorative curling beans is sown in spring, and by the autumn the plants finish their growing season. But in Africa and Asia, where the climate is warmer, and the length of the day is longer, dolichos is a large, constantly flowering perennial.

Under favorable weather conditions, the varieties of climbing beans of this species grow to 1.5–3 meters and very quickly develop the supports prepared for them of various forms and designs. Due to abundant blooms and large three-bladed leaves, hyacinth beans create a dense decorative coating. Moreover, depending on the variety, the purple color can extend not only to the inflorescences and leaves of the beans, but also to the stems and even leafy plates.

Today, gardeners have at their disposal varieties that delight both traditionally lilac and purple flowers, and reveal white, pink, purple and even two-color buds. The inflorescences appear from the sinuses, the flowers, which remain attractive for up to three days, open alternately, and the whole brush lives from 20 to 30 days.

Interestingly, dolichos is a rare ornamental curly beans that has a pleasant smell, so large inflorescences are sometimes included in bouquets. The flowers easily cut and remain in water for up to 10-14 days. With the completion of flowering plants do not lose their decoration. Purple, purple or dark green crooked beans are combined into clusters of 5–15 pieces and at the end of summer turn out to be no less effective than flowering beans. The length of the pod varies on average from 8 to 12 cm.

In the pods ripen elliptical, laterally compressed seeds of black or brown color. On seeds not exceeding a length of 1–1.5 cm, a white hem is clearly visible. The seeds are edible and have been used as food by the peoples of North Africa for many thousands of years, and today it is a type of curling decorative beans, suitable for planting in the garden and for growing in balcony boxes.

Vigna Caracalla (Vigna caracalla)

The snail, which this species of climbing beans resemble the flowers, gave the name to an amazing climbing plant. Vigna Caracalla or, according to an alternative classification, Cochliasanthus caracalla is a perennial plant native to the tropics of South America. Vigna is one of the largest species of cultivated climbing beans. Shoots of cowpea Caracalla are able to climb to a height of 7 meters.

At home, the culture is perennial, but in a temperate climate, it is cultivated as an annual crop, and the species is quite thermophilic, therefore, wanting to save the plant for the winter, it is transferred to a room or to a heated greenhouse. Vignu, like other varieties of beans, has a high rate of development and growth. Therefore, even with a short summer of the middle band, curly decorative beans successfully braid hedges, terraces and arches. Vigna is attached to vertical surfaces with a strong mustache. The shape and type of the leaves of this culture is not very different from other types of beans, but the flowers are truly unique.

The petals that make up the corolla are twisted like a dense spiral. The flower diameter can reach 3-5 cm. The color, depending on the variety and age of the flower, can vary from white, yellowish or cream to purple and violet. The cowpea inflorescence is a brush, in which there can be 5–12 gradually opening buds.

The flowers of this variety of curling beans are fragrant and rather durable. If the plant is planted in the garden is not exposed to frost and cold wind, then its flowering lasts from July until the end of September.

As a balcony culture, a large plant is better to pinch in order to control the length of the shoots and periodically provoke flowering. For cowpea arrange support from the rope grid, which is immediately sent to grow stems. If you move an adult plant, you can easily break off rather fragile shoots.

Winged Beans (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus)

The most unusual type of curling decorative beans first hit the territory of Russia quite recently, just a few years ago. But winged beans are well known in Goa, in Thailand and New Guinea, and other countries in this region.

Here, beans with pods of an unusual shape for Russians have long been used as food. And for the preparation of culinary dishes are used not only green succulent shovels with four fancy lobes and mature seeds, but also inflorescences, and powerful three-lobed foliage. In local folk medicine, the plant is recognized as healing, which is now confirmed by European experts.

Winged beans are grown as decorative curly beans, as well as cowpea, trying to protect them from wind and cold. In Russian conditions it is an annual which reaches 5 meters in height for the spring-summer season.

The inflorescences of winged bean racemes, large, up to 15 cm in length. In each such brush, you can count from 5 to 15 blue, cream or two-color corolla with a diameter of up to 3 cm. Upon completion of flowering, this variety of curling beans forms amazing four-sided vanes, which, depending on growing conditions and varieties, grow to 10-25 cm in length. On individual plants there are truly giant beans up to 40 centimeters in length.

Inside the pod ripens from 5 to 20 almost round smooth seeds with a diameter of up to 10 mm. Coloring edible grains can be varied. Different varieties of curling beans of this species have brown, brown, yellow and black seeds.

Description of curling beans

Usually curly beans grown as an annual plantbut there are species that are perennials.

Curly beans is a long stem, its length can reach 5 meters. Along the entire length of the stem are the leaves of medium size. The leaves are heart-shaped and are colored bright green. Also, along the entire length of the stem, flower stalks are formed, which are subsequently formed into pods.

Fruits are formed in the pods. There are varieties of decorative and edible curling beans.

Curly beans are divided into three types:

  • Haricot bean. The plant produces pods that form the beans. These beans are eaten, but the pod is too hard to eat.
  • Black Eyed Peas. It is also called chaff or sugar. This species is remarkable for its pods. The beans in the pods are small, and the pods themselves have a delicate structure. Pods are added to fresh salads, boiled for soup and frozen for the future. The collection of pods takes place before they are fully ripe.
  • Semi-Sugar Beans. This type has the advantages of grain and asparagus beans. The pods in early maturity can be eaten, as they mature, they become tougher. In fully ripe beans, you can eat internal beans. Landing of this type is more advantageous, because with it you can get all the options of the vegetable.

Curly beans

Blauhilda. This variety of beans has purple flowers, stems, pods, and even the leaves will stop purple as they grow. The variety is considered late, since it takes 90-110 days from germination to technical ripeness. To get an early harvest you need to grow these beans through seedlings. The first flowers appear quite early and are formed throughout the summer, so the harvest can be phased. Pods have a length of 15-23 cm. You can eat pods and beans as well.

When growing this variety for the pods, it must be remembered that the pods should be collected early, otherwise they become rigid. The treatment is quite simple and does not differ from other varieties.

Fire Red Beans. Very common variety. It has red flowers, green leaves, thin stems. The length of the stems reaches 2.5-4 meters. This plant does not tolerate frost, even the weakest, so it is worth planting seedlings only after all frosts, not earlier than June 5-10. The blooming of fiery red beans falls in June-September. Young pods can be used whole, but mature pods cannot be used as food, they take out internal beans. At any degree of maturity, the beans must be boiled, as the raw pods contain toxic substances. These substances quickly deteriorate at high temperatures.

Purple Lady Beans. This variety does not have a long stem, its length is only one and a half meters. The pods grow from 15 to 18 cm long and have a tubular shape. This variety is mid-early, from germination to full maturity takes 50-55 days. The variety is distinguished by white beans, which have a very interesting taste. Fruits can be picked throughout the summer.

Spanish white beans. This variety is grown for white, tasty fruits that do not have a thick peel. Moreover, these beans are five to six times larger than normal varieties. It is the beans that eat, which reveal all their taste qualities after cooking. From these beans it turns out very tasty lobio, stewed beans, soups. The variety is considered to be medium late; 72 days pass from sowing to the beginning of the harvest.

Green giant. This variety is notable for the fact that fruiting takes place over several months. Fruiting begins on the 55th day after sowing and continues until the onset of frost. Only pods are eaten, and they do not become rigid and can be used at any time during harvest. The length of the pods reaches 22 centimeters.

Dolikhos. This variety is not intended for human consumption. These fruits can be fed to livestock or used as a siderata. In the gardens, Dolichos is grown exclusively for decorative purposes, it has bright pink, crimson, white or lilac flowers. Leaves can be green, reddish or purple. The height of the stem reaches 4 meters. The pods also perform a decorative role and decorate the vine before the frosts begin. The color of the pods can be green, purple or burgundy.

Bean planting

To get an early harvest, the seeds are planted in April and grown at home or in a greenhouse. When growing seedlings at home, it is worth remembering that plants need proper and long-lasting lighting. Often, without sufficient lighting, seedlings are stretched and exhausted.

Prepare the ground before planting. It is necessary to prepare a nutritious, but light substrate. Seeds are soaked in warm clean water, so they germinate faster.

Seeds should be put on wet material or cotton wool, on top of the seeds covered with material. You need to make sure that the cotton does not dry out. Some experts soak the seeds before germination and only after that they are planted in the ground. It may take several days to germinate.

The seeds are laid out on the substrate, covered with one centimeter of the substrate and watered. When seedlings appear, they are transplanted into separate pots and placed in a well-lit place.

Caring for seedlings should be carried out more carefully, so that the seedlings are healthy and strong. They can not be put on drafts and subject to severe temperature extremes. Before planting in a permanent place in the open ground, it is necessary to harden the seedlings. For this, seedlings are placed in a greenhouse or colder room. First, hardening is carried out for 30 minutes and gradually the time increases.

The bed for planting beans must be prepared in the fall. Site preparation rules:

  • Potash and phosphate fertilizers are laid out on the site for planting beans. Potash fertilizers are used at the rate of 120-150 g per each 10 square meters. Phosphate fertilizers are laid out in the amount of 250-300 g for every 10 square meters.
  • The whole area is deeply dug up and left for the winter, at this time, care for the site is not required.
  • In the spring, potash and phosphate fertilizers, humus or manure are distributed at the site.
  • The soil is once again deeply dug up.

After the threat of frost has passed, around the beginning of June, the seedlings can be transplanted to a permanent place.

On the prepared site make grooves at a distance of 40-50 cm. Such a distance between plants will facilitate further care and give the seedlings the opportunity to develop properly. Between plants need to maintain a distance of 8-10 cm.

You can sow the seeds immediately in open ground, in this case it is necessary to protect the shoots from frost. In open ground, seeds are sown in early or mid-May. For this plot with planted seeds covered with plastic wrap. Periodically seeds are watered. The film can be removed after the threat of frost has passed, or in early June. By this time, seedlings should develop lateral shoots.

Installation of support for beans

Так как у фасоли длинные плети, для нее нужно организовать специальные подпорки. Удобнее всего изготавливать подпорки перед посадкой рассады на постоянное место. Можно посадить фасоль рядом с забором и тогда специальных опор сооружать не потребуется.

As support, you can use rods stuck into the ground. You can also install special nets, they are still used when growing cucumbers.

The simplest design is the installation of two supports and nailing to them a transverse beam. It remains only to tie the ropes and, as the lashes grow, tie them to the top beam.

Bean care

If you do not need to grow long rods, then at the height of the plant 30 cm, pinch its tip. Then the growth of the seedling slows down. With this plant, you can get an earlier harvest, but it will not be as much as with a normal whip.

Young plants should be watered very little. Excess moisture at the beginning of growth will lead to abundant leaf formation, this will prevent the plant from forming a large number of flowers and fruits. During the flowering period, moisture should be sufficient.

Without a sufficient amount of moisture, the flowers fall off, which means that fruit production stops.

During the entire period of growth, the seedlings must be weeded and loosened. Weeds can clog a young plant. To get rid of the regular weed the surface of the earth around the plants can be mulched with peat, crushed bark or other suitable material. Loosening helps oxygen flow to the roots.

Harvesting

Different varieties can start fruiting at different times.

Harvesting rules:

  • Plants planted through seedlings begin to bear fruit in July.
  • Plants that have been planted in open ground can be harvested in August.
  • Fruiting will occur before frost, so it will need to collect every week.
  • In the period of abundant fruiting, the crop is harvested every other day, this contributes to even more abundant fruit formation.

Curly beans have their own peculiarities of care, but even a novice gardener can cope with them. The useful, beautiful, not demanding a lot of space and the high plant just has to be planted on each site.

Characteristics of decorative beans

Decorative beans - picky and practical plant. It is allowed along walls, along fences, arbors. The main thing - the support must be strong and not break under a large mass. Growing beans quickly, grows up to 5 meters in length. The plant loves heat, so it's best to plant it on a sunny plot
Beans of all varieties of edible beans, except purple. The rest are useful, they have magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, chromium and vitamins of groups A, B, C, E. At the same time, low-calorie beans, only 25 kcal per 100 g and contain vegetable proteins.

Decorative beans saturate the soil around them with nitrogen, which accumulates on the roots. Therefore, yields planted near potatoes increase by 70%. Also decorative beans protects against late blight. To do this, it is grown right between the potatoes. Green manure and composts are made from the leaf mass of the beans.

Varieties of decorative beans

Varieties of decorative beans do not differ in either the size or color of leaves, nor the taste of beans. Varies only the color of flowers. Varieties of beans:

  1. Mammoth. This is a variety with beautiful white flowers. They differ in shade and size. Mammoth flowers are larger than the rest.
  2. Purple beans - flowers have a purple color. It is one of the most common and differs only in the fact that its beans cannot be eaten.
  3. Two-tone beans - a variety characterized by a combination of white and rich red beans French.
  4. Turkish beans are another favorite variety of Russians. It has orange-red, fiery flowers. This variety is unpretentious, with minimal time and effort for care, grows to 3 - 4.5 meters.
  5. Golden nectar is an unusual variety of beans, remarkable for the orange color of flowers.
  6. French - a variety with bright red, burgundy blooms. Flowers of the same color are found in two-color beans.

Sowing and reproduction of decorative beans

The plant is planted in a place heated by the sun. Best of all, if before that, cucumbers, potatoes, cabbage, and tomato grew on the plot. Preparations for planting do in the fall. It is necessary to dig the soil and fertilize with superphosphate and potash fertilizers with the calculation of 0.25–0.3 kg of the first and 0.15 kg of the second per 10 square meters. Due to this, the flowering culture has a saturated color, and the plant develops a liana well.

Sometimes before planting the soil has to be chipped. It should also contain a small amount of nitrogen: the excess accumulates on the roots and damages the plant. Therefore, no nitrogen fertilizer does not make. Their addition is fraught with the development of too much vegetative mass and a decrease in the number of fruits.

In autumn, the soil for growing beans is fertilized with humus (4 kg per 1 sq. M.). In the spring, mineral fertilizers and organics are added - 20 g of potassium chloride and 30 g of superphosphate per 1 sq. M.

Decorative beans are grown in two ways: by sowing directly into the ground or on seedlings. The latter method involves the early start of flowering, but still not so popular among gardeners, because the plant does not like transplant. Before planting, seeds are soaked for a day in water at room temperature with the addition of a growth stimulator. After that, the seeds are dried and start planting.

Attention! Beans must be planted before June 15.

Sowing of decorative beans for seedlings

To grow decorative beans for seedlings begin in late March. The beans are scattered in peat pots to a depth of 1.5 cm. Only one family is planted in one pot. They quickly germinate. When the plant reaches a height of 10 cm, it must provide support. The temperature at which the seedlings should be kept is + 18 ... + 22 ° C. There is no need to pinch the shoots.

The transplant must be done while the plant is not yet developed, otherwise it will not adapt well. Best of all, when the beans before it grew in the soil. If not, the beans are transplanted along with a small lump of earth.

Sowing of decorative beans on the open soil

Sow beans start at 10-15 days of April. This is an early sowing. More often planted a plant in early to mid-May. The main landmark is the time when cucumbers are planted, which, like beans, are afraid of frost.

Before sowing, the soil should warm up to + 12 ... + 14 ° C. Before the sowing, the seeds are left for 20 minutes in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate. After that, they are planted in the soil to a depth of 1-2 cm in the pits, pouring 2-3 beans into each.

Between the holes it is desirable to leave at least 25-30 cm, and between the rows - 45-50 cm. If the soil is warm, sowing is carried out on a flat surface. If it is cold, there is ground water nearby - they make the beds. A wooden support with a height of 2.5-3 m is installed near each hole. Constructions made of plastic or metal are not suitable, as the plant cannot twist around them.

Care of decorative beans

Still young beans are afraid of cold. The average daily air temperature suitable for normal growth is +18 ° C. If it is smaller, the beans are covered with a protective film, spunbond or other material. Mature plants tolerate low temperatures better and do not die even during frosts.

When caring for decorative beans, regular watering is very important, especially if the weather is dry and hot. We also need weeding. On dry days, the beans are poured directly from the spout of the watering can, removing the sieve. Pour in the middle of the rows, between crops. The water is suitable, settled, chlorine-free, warm.

Feed up superphosphates, any organic fertilizer, but not fresh manure. The great benefit of decorative beans brings mulching hay, straw, sawdust, wood chips.

No dry or liquid fertilizer should fall on the bean leaves. The leaves of the plant are tender and can get burned, which water does not always help to remove. Because of this, dry fertilizer poured directly on the soil, trying not to hurt the plant. When making liquid, directly from the spout of a watering can, they are gently poured in the middle of the row.

Decorative beans - picky, useful plant. Beans cover ugly walls, decorate arbors, with its help create beautiful arches or decorate different areas of the site.

Growing decorative (curly) beans: planting and caring for it, photo

Decorative beans - the perfect plant for decorating the dacha. It is easy to care for, and bright flowers smell sweet for a long time. The plant climbs on any support, they can decorate the gazebo, the wall of the house, just hide any unsightly buildings. In many varieties, the fruits are even edible.

Description and characteristics of the plant

Most often, on our plots you can find decorative beans with purple and bright red flowers. But the variety of its colors is much richer.

It is believed that the purple color of the flowers is inherent in several varieties of beans, fiery red is a separate variety.

At present, it is believed that this is not quite true: the variety of new varieties covers all conceivable variations of colors.

Beans are perfect for vertical gardening

Beans grow very quickly, many varieties reach a height of 5 m, and throughout this length of the shoots are trying to grab something.

This is a thermophilic culture, but it does not require special conditions, it grows well in any solar area. In the shade it feels somewhat worse, but it also pleases the host with very beautiful flowers.

Fruits of many varieties are edible, although few gardeners use them for food, preferring to plant separately for small grains or asparagus varieties.

Potatoes planted nearby increase their productivity significantly due to the property of beans to improve soil fertility. And the green mass of decorative beans, taken in autumn, is sent to the compost pit, where it enriches the composition of the collected plant waste with a large number of nutrients.

The homeland of decorative beans is Latin America, its original name is translated as “sailing vessel”, which is due to the shape of the flower. Ripe fruits are large, rough beans. It is them that are collected in order to repeat the planting next year or to build a flowering wall in a new section.

Planting decorative beans

In most cases, the beans are grown by sowing seeds directly into open ground. After all, there isn’t much point in wasting energy on seedlings, beauty can wait for warm days, and on food such beans are not specially grown.

However, a seedling option also exists, it is resorted to in regions with a harsh climate and in those cases when you want to create a beautiful wall in the country house as early as possible.

True, the seedlings will have to tinker, remembering including the fact that the beans are extremely sensitive to any transplant.

Landing dates

Sowing seeds in open ground can not be very early, the soil for sowing should warm up: the seeds begin to germinate at a soil temperature of 8-10 ° C, and the seedlings are very sensitive to frost and die at -1 ° C. The optimum temperature for its growth is 20–25 ° C.

In the central region, planting dates are mid-May, in the north - the first days of June. In the south, all types of beans are sown in April. If seeds are sown in cold soil, their viability is sharply reduced, and sometimes they die completely.

An approximate landmark is the time when cucumbers are sown, which, like beans, are afraid of frost.

To grow decorative beans for seedlings begin at the very end of March or early April, in the northern regions - towards the end of April. If it turns out that the sowing is done too early and the seedlings have outgrown, you will have to arrange a support for it, to which long stalks are tied up. To this end, you can gently stick, for example, a pencil next to the germ.

Planting seedlings

Seedlings will have to stay at home for about a month, it will grow normally in the soil of any composition, except for clay, but it is better to mix sod earth and sand in a 2: 1 ratio and add a handful of wood ash to the bucket of the mixture.

Sowing seeds for seedlings must necessarily be in individual pots: beans do not tolerate transplant with root damage. You can use the disposable with a removable bottom, but the best option will be peat - then landing in open ground will be completely painless. You can use large peat tablets.

The best option for growing bean seedlings - peat pots

The seeds of the beans are large, and before sowing they are easy to calibrate, throwing out the smallest and most affected by pests. Then, it is recommended to soak the seeds in water before swelling (for 12–16 hours), without waiting for sticking.

The seeds of a decorative bean can be of a different color, but they are always large, easy to handle.

Beans are sown to a depth of about 2 cm. Usually, it grows perfectly, so it’s enough to put one bean in a pot or a pill, but if there are many of them and there are doubts in germination, you can spread out 2-3 pieces and then carefully remove the excess shoots.

The temperature at which the seedlings should be grown is 18–22 ° C, but after the emergence of shoots it should be reduced by several degrees for 3-4 days. No special care, except for periodic watering, does not require growing seedlings. Bushes do not have to form, pinching or cutting. Not required for this month and feeding.

Replanting seedlings in the garden can be no sooner developed than two true leaves. It should not be kept at home for too long, but if the transplant is carried out with a peat pot, there is no risk. Only a week before disembarking, it is necessary to prepare the bushes, bringing them periodically to the balcony and teaching them to fresh air.

A common bean box is not the best option: it will be very difficult to remove the seedlings without damaging the roots.

Planting seedlings in the garden

Decorative beans are less demanding on conditions compared to vegetable varieties. But still the bed should be prepared in advance, making the usual dose of fertilizer.

It may be humus or compost, but not fresh manure. Any mineral composition with an emphasis on phosphorus and potassium will do: a lot of nitrogen is not required.

This itemcauses excessive growth of the vegetative mass to the detriment of intensive flowering.

The layout of the decorative bean is any, since its main purpose is to decorate the site. Therefore, the owner decides for himself whether it will be a bed or one row along a wall or fence, but between plants it is necessary to leave a distance of at least 20 cm, and preferably 30–40 cm. If there are several rows, then between them leave from 40 to 50 cm, depending on how you manage to build support.

The technique of planting seedlings is common: in the selected places, dig holes in the pot size and dig the seedlings in them almost without digging, after which they pour plenty of warm water and mulch the soil.

Sowing seeds in the ground

Sowing seeds directly in the garden is the most common way of planting decorative beans, most often they do. In the case of light and warm soil, beans are sown on a flat surface.

The sowing pattern is the same as when planting seedlings: they leave a distance of 20 to 40 cm between the holes. A thicker planting gives a solid blank wall, but the plants develop worse, they do not bloom so delicately.

Two to three beans are sown in each well to a depth of 1.5–2 cm, then a bed of a watering can with a sieve is plentifully watered and the soil is mulched with any bulk material. If the threat of frost persists, crops are temporarily covered with spunbond.

Superfluous shoots in a few days after their appearance is carefully cut.

The seeds of the beans are not sown very deeply, you can take 2-3 pieces per well

Bean care is simple and includes the systematic loosening of row spacing, weeding, dressing and watering. Loosening is performed after each watering and rain, it is combined with the removal of weeds. With the growth of bushes it will be harder to loosen, therefore it is desirable to mulch the garden. When the bushes grow to 12-15 cm, they are slightly spud earth.

Beans are a heat-loving plant, therefore, if it is planted too early, the first time is to watch the weather and, perhaps, cover the planting with non-woven materials. Alternatively, you can build a small temporary greenhouse. Adult plants withstand temperatures close to 0 ° C.

How to water the beans

Watering all types of beans, including decorative, infrequently and moderately, preventing overdrying of the soil. This should be done at the root, in the evenings, defended and warmed by the sun water per day. In case of dry weather, watering is required twice a week.

It is advisable to send water directly to the roots, especially taking care not to soak the flowers and buds. Therefore, a strainer is often removed from the watering can, so that the water falls between the rows or, during single-row planting, closer to the base of the bushes.

Immediately before the start of flowering, the soil can be slightly dried for several days: this causes the appearance of a larger number of buds, but then watering is continued as usual. It is better to soil the soil around the beans with any bulk material (peat, humus, sawdust, chopped straw), so that moisture is better preserved.

Feed decorative beans with any mineral or natural fertilizers, except for fresh manure. Fertilize her gardeners advise only twice:

  1. At regrowth of two true leaflets (1 g of urea, 15 g of superphosphate and 10 g of any potassium salt are applied per 1 m2).
  2. At the time of the appearance of the buds (the same composition, excluding urea).

The supports of the beans like wooden ones, for some reason it wraps worse around metal and very badly plastic, therefore sometimes it has to help to do it. If it turns out that the bean refuses to twist around plastic objects, you just have to tie its shoots with soft string in 2-3 places, and then it will most likely go where the gardener wanted.

From the beans can be constructed figures of any shape.

When the beans ottsvetet and forms pods, they can be collected in bunches - they also look quite impressive. After drying, they are harvested to peel the seeds, which, after a short drying, are poured into paper bags and stored in a dry place.

Decorative beans - one of the easiest in the cultivation of plants, allowing with a minimum expenditure of labor and financial investments to transform the dacha. It allows you to build on the site shaded area, decorated with multi-colored flowers. This culture is rightly popular and is found on most suburban areas.

Decorative beans: varieties and cultivation

For upgrading the territory and landscape design are used not only flower beds and trees. Some plants have combined a decorative function with fruiting; therefore, in addition to grape vines, gardeners use such plants as decorative beans on their plots, which are used to create hedges and arches.

The popularity of winding culture among summer residents and owners of private houses is due to the unpretentiousness of varieties in agricultural technology, as well as the external attractiveness of the bushes.

In addition, among the existing diversity of its species there are plants that are distinguished by excellent yield.

Curly liana attracts outwardly not only green mass and fruits, but also bright fragrant flowers, which in each class differ in their shapes, sizes and colors.

Latin America is considered the birthplace of curly shrubs. In fact, decorative beans is a fairly practical plant. As a rule, for its cultivation are selected plots along the fences and walls of the building. With the help of culture shade verandas, terraces and gazebos.

Bushes develop rapidly - on average, the length of one adult plant reaches about five meters. Decorative beans grow best in sunny areas.

Among the main characteristics of the plant is to stay at the following:

  • the shrub grows very quickly, due to which, in one season, it manages to plant a large area,
  • care for decorative beans does not present any particular difficulties, and the external attractiveness of vines only increases the interest in culture,
  • beans are of great value for the body in its composition,
  • In addition to human benefits, the culture is a good sideratoma, and the green mass acts as a nutrient compost.

There are some drawbacks related to the cultivation of decorative beans:

  • due to the impressive length of the shrubs, they need a mandatory backwater, in addition, the plant must be tied up at the chosen place,
  • plant decorative culture can not be everywhere, because it belongs to the heat-loving plants.

Such disadvantages are not so significant compared with the mass of positive features of beans.

Decorative beans are divided into two main types:

In the first case, due to the peculiarities of the structure of the pod, it is not eaten. In asparagus beans there is no special layer between the beans, due to which the shovels ripen with tender and suitable for eating.

You can also note the type of semi-sugar beans, which combines the features of the other two species.

It is edible in immature condition, with further ripening the beans will fit as grains.

Varieties of curly beans, there is a huge amount, each has unique features. It is possible to plant various cultivars in open ground, combining them at your discretion.

The most popular varieties of decorative beans will be discussed below.

  • Common. The height of the annual bush varies in the range of 1.5-3 meters. The appearance of the first inflorescences is noted 20-30 days after sowing, and the formation of the pods occurs before the onset of cold weather. The plant is distinguished by a green foliage and numerous inflorescences of different color. Regular collection of legumes activates the formation of new ovaries.
  • "Winner". Shrub blooms bright red flowers. Due to the attractive appearance of a flowering plant, it is most often purchased for decorative purposes. Sometimes this variety throws white-pink and white-red inflorescences. Kind of unpretentious stands in the care. The height of the culture is from 3 to 5 meters. The bean flowering phase lasts almost the entire summer.
  • The Purple Queen. This variety belongs to the asparagus variety of culture, stands out for its small size and average thickness of the branches. However, the bush blooms rather large inflorescences that have a rich purple color. In addition, the Purple Queen is notable for its high yield.
  • "Harmony". Blossoming liana reaches a height of 4 meters, it is well acclimatized in various conditions. The advantage of the variety is the ability of shrubs to produce crops before the arrival of the first frost.
  • "Golden Neck". The liana of this grade reaches the small sizes. On average, it stretches up to 1.5 meters - due to similar features, it is planted along with other climbing beans. The bush is immune to many diseases, there is a good harvest of legumes.
  • "Pink". It belongs to mid-season crops, its fruits are distinguished by marble-pink color with a pattern. The plant is of medium size, the length of the bush most often is about 3-4 meters.
  • "Brauhilda". Among the variety of decorative beans this particular variety stands out. Due to the popularity of the plant the unusual color of fruits and flowers - they have a bright purple color, and the foliage during the growth and maturation becomes purple. The length of the bushes is average. Typically, the culture is pulled out to 4 meters in height, but such color decoration on the site needs a strong support and tying up, because the shrub has a lot of weight due to the abundant green mass, thickness of the trunk and shoots.
  • "Hyacinth". The main purpose of the plant is to decorate the site. This is due to the rather mediocre taste of the fruit. The shrub grows to 4 meters. The advantage of the culture is the color of the leaves - they can be either a standard green color, or red or purple. The variety blooms with white and very fragrant inflorescences. You can meet the culture of this variety with pink or crimson flowers. Bean pods also have an unusual color.
  • "Spanish white." It is in great demand among gardeners due to the high taste of fruits and large white inflorescences, which are literally studded with vines of this variety. In terms of ripening refers to mid-late cultures.
  • "Vigna Caracalla." Culture is unusual not only by its name, but also by its specificity in appearance. The flowers in the bushes are like snails, in addition, they stand out for their size. One inflorescence in diameter reaches 5 centimeters. With regard to color options - on the bushes can grow purple, purple, yellow and white flowers with a pleasant aroma. In addition to the visual advantages, it should be noted that the variety is perennial, and the height of the vine can reach 6-7 meters.
  • Borlotto. Asparagus beans of Spanish origin, which are quite successfully grown in Russia. Inflorescences attract with their scarlet color, the length of the shrub does not exceed 3 meters. In addition to the beauty of the shrub, the variety is popular with the taste of the beans.
  • Golden Nectar. The plant has spreading greens. In addition to visual appeal, legumes of this class are very tasty and nutritious.
  • "Green Giant". Proper agrotechnics concerning this variety of ornamental shrubs will allow to grow beautiful 3-4 meter long vines on the site that will give a good harvest until the end of autumn. Despite the small flowers, bright greens and purple blossoms will be able to decorate any structure and form a beautiful climbing arch. An interesting solution will be the combination of culture with other varieties of decorative beans.
  • "Winged beans". Tall shrub with large greens and unusual color of flowers. Culture may contain cream or blue flowers. Sometimes there are plants containing inflorescences with a combination of these shades. In some countries, not only beans of this variety are eaten, but also green mass.

Even an inexperienced gardener can grow decorative beans on its territory. The main point in this case is the competent selection of the method of planting the crop, taking into account the characteristics of a particular variety.

There are a number of general rules that concern the choice of the optimally suitable place for the cultivation of a plant of this type:

  • the place to grow curling beans should be sunny,
  • culture actively develops only in the light and nutritious soil,
  • the best precursors for legumes will be cucumbers, tomatoes or potatoes,
  • Soil preparation for shrub planting is done in the fall, and before rooting, the soil is ground out and nitrogen-containing fertilizers are applied.

Cultivation of decorative beans is possible in two ways:

  • planting seeds directly in open ground,
  • growing seedlings from seed.

The first method is the most acceptable for this crop, since the beans are not good for transplanting. As for the second option, its advantage is the fact that the vine quickly goes into the flowering phase.

Sowing seeds at the site immediately requires compliance with the following conditions:

  • May is the best time for work, since during this period frost is unlikely,
  • Before planting, planting material must be soaked in a growth stimulator,
  • the seeds go deeper into the soil by no more than 2 centimeters, it’s better to put 2 seeds in each well,
  • the distance between plants should be at least 30 centimeters, and between rows should be about half a meter,
  • A liana can grow properly only if there are supports that are installed near each well.

Planting seeds for seedlings is done a little earlier than planting material directly into the soil. Work can be done around the end of March. The optimal capacity for young plants will be peat pots.

Seeds one day before planting are kept in warm water or a growth stimulator. In addition, you can additionally process the material with potassium permanganate. Deepen the grain in the ground by about 1-1.5 cm.

In the room with seedlings should be respected the optimum temperature. The air should be heated to 20-22 degrees. When young plants grow to 10 centimeters in length, they will need support.

Agrotechnical measures concerning decorative beans are quite simple. The works consist in regular loosening of the soil, removal of weeds and watering. Loosening of the land should be carried out after each soil moisture or rain. During the growth of the shrub these activities will be quite difficult to perform, so as an alternative, you can carry out mulching of the beds.

Since culture needs warmth, and the weather conditions have suddenly changed for the worse, creepers may require shelter in a nonwoven fabric. In some cases, a temporary greenhouse is built around the beans. Adult shrubs tolerate well lowering the temperature to 0 degrees.

The plant does not need frequent and abundant watering. It is best to moisturize under the root of the bush with warm water in the evening as the soil dries. Moisture on foliage and flowers should be avoided. Before the flowering phase of the soil can be slightly dried to activate the formation of buds.

Curly beans respond well to mineral and natural nutritional formulations. The only exception will be fresh manure, so the use of such organics should be abandoned. Feeding beans is done twice per season.

For the first time with the appearance of two leaves, during this period, 10 grams of salt, 15 grams of superphosphate and 1 gram of urea must be added to one square meter.

During the formation of the buds of the plant uses the same composition, with the exception of urea.

When the plant is sufficiently adapted and begins to actively grow, it must be tied up to set the desired direction of growth.

With the help of tying up, you can easily give any shape to a curly liana. As for the material from which the supports for the shrubs will be made, gardeners have determined that the beans twist wood objects better.

But with metal or plastic, it develops and winds much worse.

Climbing plant, like any other crop, is prone to diseases and attacks of pests. The most common decorative beans are the following diseases:

The first type of the disease manifests itself on the green mass of the culture - spots are formed on the foliage. Bacteria that are the causative agents of this disease are present in the seed. To destroy these microorganisms, the seeds are subjected to heat treatment.

Anthracnose is a fungal infection, which develops at low temperatures and high humidity. In this case, the whole plant is covered with yellow spots, after which the foliage dies.

For prevention, they also work with seeds - the material is examined for visual manifestations of infection, and before planting seeds are soaked in potassium permanganate. Part of the plant with signs of anthracnose urgently needs to be removed, treatment is carried out by Bordeaux mixture.

A threat to the beans are the germ fly, aphid and whitefly. To get rid of insects and their larvae, carry out a one-time spraying of beans with agrochemicals. It also harvests on time, since it is in the pods of the fruit that pests can start.

Decorative beans: photo, planting and care

Beans - a plant of the legume family, which grows in the form of a bush, and in the form of a climbing vine. South and Central America is considered the birthplace of this culture. There she was known from ancient times.

Beans were known in ancient Rome, where it was used as food and cosmetics. It also became an ingredient in decorative powder, which smoothes wrinkles well and has a softening effect. One of the components of Cleopatra's unique face mask was beans.

In Europe, these beans appeared relatively late, namely, in the 15th century.

Culture characteristics

It was brought from overseas by the Dutch and Spanish navigators. After a few decades, bean beans spread throughout Russia.

Then the beans were popularly called French beans. Initially it was used for decorative purposes: it was decorated with gardens, verandas and flower beds.

As a food product, the beans of this plant began to be consumed only after 3 centuries.

Soon, varieties of tender beans were bred, the beans of which could be eaten together with the pods. They had small seeds and a rather thick shell. Nowadays, such beans are grown in almost all countries. It is valued as a significant dietary product that has unique properties.

In the world there are more than fifty kinds of beans. In this case, all varieties can be divided into:

To classify the plant is also possible depending on the structure of the bean. In this case, the culture is divided into:

In addition, sugar pods can either have visible, wiry fibers on the side seams or not. More preferred are fiberless varieties. Beans grow in the form of lianas and therefore with the growth can twist around a support. The plant produces a better yield on moderately moist and medium loams.

Heavy soils, in which high groundwater is located, the beans are not very fond of. As for fruiting, the fruits appear only from July to September. Ripening depends on the type of bean. It is noteworthy that in one season you can take up to five harvests.

In this case, the crop is usually harvested during the period during which the leaflets of the beans are still juicy, and the fruits have not ripened a bit.

As for caloric content, then 100 grams of beans contain about 25 kilocalories. For this reason, it is useful for people who want to lose weight. Green beans are rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, carotene, folic acid.

In addition, the beans contain iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, chromium, etc. In addition, beans contain carbohydrates, proteins, fats and sugars.

Due to the beneficial properties of this plant, the body gets everything you need to fight free radicals, as well as elements that allow you to keep healthier hair and skin.

By the way, some nutritionists believe that beans should be a mandatory item in the menu of any person, especially after 40 years. But this does not mean that it should not be included in the diet until this age.

Also largely due to the sulfur content, it is very valuable for various infectious diseases of the intestines.

In addition to its culinary properties, some types of beans, they are called decorative, are an excellent material for landscape design.

On the Internet on request photos of decorative beans you can find hundreds of amazing photos of this amazing plant. Particularly fascinating looks decorative purple bean.

Further we will tell more in detail about features of cultivation of this culture.

Decorative beans: planting and care

Planting decorative beans is carried out by sowing seeds directly into the open ground. The soil at the time of planting culture should be well warmed. As a rule, decorative beans are planted in the middle or even at the end of May, since at this time the probability of frosts is reduced to zero.

Before planting, decorative bean seeds are soaked in water for no more than a day. In this case, the liquid should be slightly warmer than room temperature. Experts advise adding some growth stimulants to water. Seeds are planted to a depth of no more than 1 cm, while making holes located at a distance of 40-45 cm from each other. The hole is poured with water and 2-3 beans are planted in it.

Sometimes the cultivation of decorative beans produced through seedlings. However, this method is not very popular, because this plant does not tolerate transplantation. For growing seedlings, bean seeds are planted in a greenhouse in mid-April.

For each bush provide a separate pot. It is better to use for this special peat cups, in which the seedlings can be planted directly into the soil, thereby not injuring the plant. If there are no such cups, then the culture is transplanted along with a clod of earth.

The temperature in the greenhouse for growing seedlings should not be below + 18⁰С… + 22⁰С. Shoots no need to pinch. If the seedlings will be in pots for more than a month, they should be given additional support.

To this end, it is necessary to carefully insert a small wooden rod next to the germ, for which the old pencil is quite suitable.

Care for a decorative variety of culture

In the event of frost, the decorative beans must be warmed, covered with plastic wrap or non-woven material. This should be done very carefully so as not to damage the crops. Alternatively, you can build a small temporary greenhouse.

To do this, take a steel wire with a diameter of 2 mm, cut into pieces of 0.5-0.7 m (depending on the height of the plant) and make a semicircle of them. At a distance of 0.4-0.5 m from each other, insert the wire into the ground, making the frame of the greenhouse. For strength, connect all the semirings with wire.

Then cover the frame with a transparent film and fix it at the bottom with stones, or prikopite earth.

The simplicity of the decorative bean does not mean that it can be grown anywhere. The plant prefers rich soils with a lightweight structure. In addition, it is very fond of moisture, so during hot and dry periods it must be watered abundantly. From fertilizer, decorative beans prefer organic mixtures, with the exception of fresh manure.

If organic fertilizers are not available, you can apply complex mixtures that contain superphosphate. The soil around the beans is better to mulch to better preserve moisture. This can be done with the help of any bulk material, except manure. It is better to use straw or sawdust.

Decorative beans - climbing plant, with which you can make beautiful garden compositions.

It can be planted around the gazebo, and then at the expense of its wide leaves, it will create a shadow, and its beautiful flowers - a great mood. This plant produces beautiful decorative arches, cones, canopies.

When the plant blooms, it loses some of its former appearance, however, the pods of beans, which are formed at the place of flowering, give the vines a special charm.

Curly beans: planting and care

Traditional 6 acres do not give summer residents a lot of space for experiments, but they are taught to use every meter of land wisely. And the cultivation of ornamental climbing plants is gaining more and more popularity among gardeners: it almost does not take up a place in the garden, decorates the site (or covers an unsightly fence), and brings a good harvest.

So, the topic of our article is the care, planting and cultivation of curling beans.

Is it possible to eat curling beans? Types of curling beans

Some novice gardeners ask whether curly beans are edible. Of course, edible! But grains and pods of some varieties in their raw form contain toxins that quickly deteriorate during cooking. As well as the usual bush, curly beans are of the following types:

asparagus curly beans (sugar, chilli). Such beans are harvested in unripe form, put in salads, soups, etc. But if you keep the asparagus curly beans on the plant before biological maturity, it is possible to collect small beans in it.

Asparagus curly beans "Blauhilda"

grain curly beans (shelling). This is a simple bean, as a result of the cultivation of which we obtain grains suitable for long-term storage. Curly beans boast larger grains in comparison with the spray beans, and its color is different originality.

Haricot curling grain grades "Fiery-red"

semi-sweet curly beans. It is a cross between asparagus and corn beans. When ripening gives the grain, but the pod itself is more gentle than that of grain varieties, suitable for eating as a young. In the future, the pod becomes hard, with a pronounced parchment layer.

Planting beans

Growing climbing beans is no different than growing common types of beans. It is possible to note only a great heat-loving and intolerance to frosts, therefore, for the cultivation of climbing beans, only the south side is chosen, where there are no cold winds.

The soil for planting beans should be neutral and even slightly alkaline. Otherwise, it should be deoxidized since the fall, and at the same time fertilizer should be applied - manure, compost and superphosphate.

And if earlier potatoes, cabbage or cucumbers grew on this place, then the curling beans could not be fed at all, since the land after these crops is fully enriched with minerals for the climbing beans.

By the way, after growing beans, the land becomes extremely rich in nitrogen - this is the work of nodule nitrogen-fixing bacteria living in its root system. Like all legumes, beans are a very useful predecessor, giving the earth a rest.

Planting beans directly to the ground is carried out only when the threats of night frosts have gone (the end of spring - the beginning of summer).

There are early ripening varieties, the crop from which can be harvested within two months after planting, and there are later ones ripening for more than 100 days.

The latter are best planted through seedlings to enjoy the harvest in full, especially if we are talking about the middle zone, and not the southern regions.

Support for curling beans

Curly beans grows from one and a half to three meters in length, so you need to attend to the support in advance. The support should be not only high - about 2.5 meters, but also strong, since the beans increase a lot of heavy green mass.

What can be taken as a support for climbing beans?

wooden gazebos, fences, stairs, shtaketniki and other, already existing structures,

Rabitz. Not a good option: the beans so tightly braid mesh cells that even get rid of dry lashes will be difficult. In addition, a plant with its weight can simply overwhelm an unreliable fixed rabbit,

- lower branches of trees. Beans are a good neighbor as they can accumulate nitrogen and improve the soil. Among the minuses - the tree creates a shadow that is undesirable for the beans, the beans climb quite high and tenaciously along the branches, and harvesting, and later - getting rid of dry residues can be problematic.

wooden construction like "grape" or "cucumber". And since cucumber is a great predecessor for our beans, as a support, you can take the tapestries, on which you grew cucumbers last year.

poles dug into the ground to a depth of at least half a meter, and towering above the ground at least two meters. You can put the poles in the form of a tent, the letters "T" or "P" with threads connecting the horizontal poles and the ground, in the form of the letter "V", etc.

When the curly beans grow by about 15 cm, they pile it up, and as they grow, they help to “grasp” the support: they twist along a pole or a trellis counterclockwise.

Curling beans care

Like other garden plants, climbing beans need regular watering, weeding from weeds and loosening, pinching and mulching.

How to feed the climbing beans? Beans do not need large doses of nitrogen, so it should not be fed with pure nitrogen fertilizers. For the first feeding, one month after sprouting, the climbing beans are recommended to be fed with full fertilizer.

If the plant has a nitrogen deficiency (thin pale sprouts, chlorous leaves), which happens during drought, watering can be combined with the introduction of mullein, diluted bird droppings, herbal extracts, etc. .

The easiest way is to feed the culture with ashes (a glass under a bush) or other fertilizers containing the necessary potassium, magnesium and phosphorus.

How to water curly beans? Before the start of the pods, the beans do not need abundant watering. On a waterless diet, the plant will grow unpretentious, with a strong root system, not prone to disease. However, after flowering, everything changes dramatically: in the absence of rain, the beans are watered properly, and the ground around is mulched. No good harvest without water

When do you need to pinch the beans? Pinching beans is done if you no longer want the plant to grow in length. You can also pinch the growth point to direct the strength of the plant to the ripening of the beans / shoulder blades, or grow a small crop - for example, 1 meter or 1.5 meter.

How to collect pods of curly beans? As usual beans - as ripening. The more often you do this, the more beans your bush will bring.

Usually curly beans in August-September looks like this: the top blooms, in the middle - immature pods, below - mature. The collection of climbing beans is stretched for about a month, until frost.

3-5 kg of beans are harvested from 1 “square” of a productive bed.

In this way, growing beans allows not only to decorate your garden, but also to get a good harvest. And what soups, some potatoes can be cooked with beans! Moreover, many varieties of curly beans are more large and delicate beans than the bush forms. But the choice of beans is another story.

Is it possible to eat decorative beans?

Beans are made with many delicious dishes., but raw beans and seeds, including ordinary beans, can not be eaten, as they contain toxic substances that are easily destroyed during cooking. Usually the green blades of the beans are frozen and then used as needed.

Whether edible beans are edible

Features of curling beans

A photo:

Decorative curly beans - is a vine, which can reach a height of 2 to 5 meters. Due to this, such plants are suitable for arranging arches, arbors, creating a hedge, as well as a natural covering for some vegetable crops.

In addition, there are other benefits of growing different varieties of decorative beans:

  1. The speed of development of the shrub - in one spring and summer season you can plant a vast area.
  2. The ease of caring for plants.
  3. Extensive decorative possibilities that are achieved due to the original look and a wide range of shapes, sizes, shades, not only inflorescences, but also the pods themselves.
  4. The green mass of legumes is excellent as an ingredient for natural fertilizers and compost preparation.
  5. The soils on which ornamental climbing beans are grown are enriched with nitrogen. And this substance is very important for the development of many cultivated plants - vegetables, berries, fruits.
  6. Beans perfectly manifests itself as a siderata. Planting it next to cultivated plants, such as potatoes, tomatoes, can significantly reduce the number of weeds and insect pests.

Important! The valuable properties of beans are manifested not only in its advantageous combination with fruit and vegetable plants and high decorative properties. Most fruits are edible and very beneficial to humans.

The rich chemical composition of legumes, which includes iron, zinc, magnesium, chromium, calcium, as well as vitamins B, E, C, A.

This causes such properties and effects on the human body:

  1. Low-calorie legumes, but there is a high concentration of vegetable protein, so bean dishes are nutritious and at the same time dietary.
  2. Regular consumption of beans favorably affects the condition of the skin, hair, nails.
  3. Properly formulated diet with the inclusion of dishes from the beans in any form - salads, saute, stews, mashed potatoes, improves immunity.
  4. It has beans and therapeutic effect, therefore, it is widely used in traditional medicine for rheumatoid arthritis, bronchitis, pruritus, eczema and other diseases.

The disadvantages of growing decorative curly beans are quite subjective:

  1. A large weight of shrubs of many varieties, therefore, need strong support.
  2. The thermophilicity of plants, which necessitates the allocation of a solar site with good access of light for planting.

Ordinary

Common beans - an annual plant, shrubs which can grow in height from 1.5 to 3 meters. The first inflorescences appear only a month after sowing, and the pods are formed until mid-autumn.

The decorative properties of the shrubs are quite at the height - multiple inflorescences of various colors, dense foliage. If you regularly harvest ripened harvest, ovaries are formed again on the branches, which ensures long-lasting beauty on the site.

Blauhilda

This variety of asparagus curling beans is very much appreciated for its interesting shade of flowers and pods - saturated purple. Even foliage as it grows becomes purple. The pods themselves have a length of 15 to 23 cm, usually wide. The branches are pulled out by 3-4 meters and have a lot of weight due to the thickness of the shoots and strong foliage.

The variety of Blaukhild is late-ripened, therefore the cultivation of such beans by the seedling method will be optimal. But at the same time it blooms quite early and the formation of inflorescences continues until late autumn, and this has earned recognition of summer residents who are looking for solutions for the decorative gardening of their territory.

This variety has other names - Curly lilac, Hyacinth beans, Purple beans. The taste qualities of beans are mediocre; therefore, this variety is rarely chosen for the cultivation of beans for harvest. More used precisely as an ornamental plant.

With good care, Liana grows to 4 meters and is able to master the supports of various forms. The leaves have their own unique feature - they can be purple, and green, and red.

Numerous flowers look very elegant, produce a pleasant, very noticeable aroma. The shade of flowers is also diverse - white, pink, purple, crimson, there are even two-tone variants. The same feature distinguishes the pods themselves with a length of 8 to 15 cm - they look elegant in green, burgundy or dark purple color.

Important! The flowers of this variety of decorative beans are used even to create bouquets.

Spanish white

Spanish white beans have gained their popularity with such characteristics:

  1. Very large and tasty fruits with thin skin.
  2. Excellent decorative properties of the thickest and strongest vines - its length is up to 4 meters, the inflorescences on the shoots form large, white shades, in large quantities. Pods - short and wide, rich green color.

Important! This variety of beans is shelling. Beans are used to prepare a variety of dishes - lobio, saute, borscht. The ripening period is medium late.

Vigna Caracalla

This is exactly what sort of surprise you with its unusual. The flowers of plants of this species have a specific shape - they resemble a snail, which means in translation the name of this species of curling beans. Plus they are quite large - up to 5 cm in diameter. Coloring can vary in the following colors - white, yellow, cream, purple, violet. Inflorescences have a bright aroma.

This plant is not annual, but perennial, but in temperate climates, usually only 1 year is grown. Powerful vine can grow to a height of 7 meters, and also tightly braid hedges, arches, terraces. Although it is necessary to take into account that the branches are relatively fragile, they can easily be broken off if they are carelessly handled.

Italian asparagus variety, which is successfully cultivated in Russia. Liana is very beautiful, about 3.5 m long, has an unusual fiery shade. Соцветия — алые, сами зерна — зеленые, но потом на них образуется мраморный темно-красный узор.

Ценится этот сорт не только своей декоративностью, но и уникальными вкусовыми качествами бобов с легким ореховым привкусом.

Зеленый гигант

Curly beans Green Giant will give you a 3 meters long liana, long pods of 20-22 cm, tender, sugar-flavored beans, long periods of fruiting, including frost.

The foliage is very bright, and the inflorescences are small, purple hue. Therefore, you can safely use these shrubs in combination with varieties that form flowers of different shades and thereby give your site a very beautiful and neat appearance.

Landing methods

Growing curly decorative beans are performed in two ways:

  1. Immediately into the ground - a more suitable option, since this culture does not tolerate transplantation very well.
  2. Seedlings - the advantage of this method is that the plants begin to bloom very early, which is beneficial for the decorative landscaping of the territory.

To seedlings

When choosing this method of landing follow these rules:

  1. Landing dates - the end of March.
  2. Suitable containers - peat pots.
  3. Seeds before planting are kept for 24 hours in warm, settled water. Also? can be processed with potassium permanganate for disinfection. To prepare a special solution, take about 1 g of powder per 3 liters of water.
  4. Seeding up to a depth of 1-1.5 cm.
  5. The optimum temperature for germination - 18-22 degrees.
  6. When the shoots reach a height of 10 cm, they establish a support, it is not necessary to pinch.
  7. When transplanting into the open ground, be sure to take the plant with a small lump of earth from the pot, so as not to provoke the destruction of the shrub due to a sharp change in conditions.

In open ground

Landing immediately in open ground is a good solution. The main thing is to adhere to the following conditions:

  1. Landing dates - the middle or the end of May, when the probability of frost is completely excluded. Can be performed simultaneously with the planting of cucumbers.
  2. Before planting, seeds are treated in the same way as with the seedling method. You can additionally add to the water special preparations to stimulate growth.
  3. Depth of seeding is 1-2 cm, 2-3 grains are put in each well.
  4. The distance between the holes is kept at 25-30 cm, between the rows - 45-50 cm.
  5. Near each pit with a planted decorative beans set support with a length of about 3 meters.

Caring for plants when growing decorative climbing beans is very simple and will not burden you:

  1. Temperature should be at least 18 degrees. If weather deterioration is observed, it is better to cover young bushes with a spanbond, protective film or other suitable material.
  2. Watering should be regular, especially in hot and dry weather. It is better to pour water between the rows and in such a way that it does not fall on the inflorescences.
  3. Make sure that a lot of weeds do not grow nearby - perform weeding simultaneously with watering.
  4. Top dressing will suit any - organic, superphosphate fertilizers. Only fresh manure is not recommended. The main thing - no fertilizer, either in dry or in liquid form, should not fall on the leaves. Solutions, as well as water at usual watering, bring between ranks.
