Planting of seedlings of tomatoes in the country greenhouse

The most popular vegetable in our countries is considered a tomato or a tomato, as they used to call it in the west. It is impossible to imagine a house where they would not grow vegetables for their own use in the summer. Every self-respecting farmer grows tomatoes in his garden. Even people who live in apartments can grow them on a balcony.

To achieve a good result, it is necessary to provide the culture with all the necessary conditions for its yield and prosperity. This does not require much effort.

Tomato is a very useful vegetable, it contains many vitamins:

Also, due to the content of micro and macro, tomato can be called the most real antidepressant. Tomato - the main raw material for canning. Nowadays, technologies allow, in the process of processing, to store in tomatoes more than 80% of valuable valuable substances. With daily consumption of 1 to 2 tomatoes per day fills the daily need for vitamins for a person.

In order to provide for your family and preserve yourself for the winter and just eat tomatoes in the summer, you need to create all the conditions for the growth and prosperity of the culture. To get the fruit you need to follow several steps:

  1. Soil preparation for seedlings
  2. Seed preparation for seedlings
  3. Growing seedlings
  4. Greenhouse preparation
  5. Landing in the greenhouse
  6. Treatment
  7. Care at all stages

In order to know how to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse, it is necessary to study the following steps.

Seed preparation for seedlings, sowing seeds in boxes

The period for planting seeds on seedlings in boxes begins from the end of February, when the hard frosts end, and lasts until the end of March. If the seeds are planted immediately in the greenhouse, the period begins after severe frosts subside, since at minus temperatures the seed will peck for a very long time. The main thing is to correctly calculate the time of planting seeds., so as not to overdo the tall seedlings in the house or, conversely, so that the seedlings are not too small when the time comes for planting in the greenhouse.

Proper seed planting for seedlings

Seeds, before planting, you can soak in a weak manganese solution, to accelerate growth. Earth can be heated to suppress unwanted microflora. The box is filled with one third of the earth, and at a distance of 3 cm from each other, 1 seed is placed. So, in the box can get several rows of seeds. After the seeds are laid, it is necessary to carefully pour water, and then the earth is sifted through a sieve for another third of the box, and also watered from above.

The box is exposed on the sunny side of the window., for the best growth. As the earth dries, it is necessary to water it through a sieve. So, after a week you can see how the plant grew from the seed. When the seedlings are more than 7 cm tall, you can safely transplant in the greenhouse.

Preparing a greenhouse and planting tomato seedlings in the greenhouse

Even small seedlings are planted in the greenhouse, or it can be grown there from seeds, only the process will be slightly longer. If you make a greenhouse with a small heating device, the process of growing seedlings will take as much time as you would if you had to grow in the house.

The greenhouse must be made of a material that can transmit sunlight. For any plant photosynthesis is important, it can be obtained in the presence of sunlight. Without the sun, the plant will not grow and just die. At this point in time, suitable material can be either a film (the cheapest and most practical option), or polycarbonate (which is the most expensive option), or old windows.

All materials are good, you need to choose from the calculation of low cost, practicality and quality.

In the greenhouse, you can install a heating unit, since the seedlings are planted in the spring, and there may still be frosts. But mostly the greenhouse is heated by direct sunlight. So, the temperature of the earth under the film several degrees higher than outside, which has a beneficial effect on the plant. But also under the film, the air humidity reaches up to 80%, which adversely affects the seedlings, so it is necessary to ventilate the shelter.

The beds must be removed from weeds and various debris so that the root system of the tomato can develop.

Landing in the greenhouse

If you have ready seedlings, it should be planted in the last month of spring in the greenhouse. The soil is prepared, the whole weed is loosened and removed.. Soil, for better results, fertilized. To prevent moisture drying from above, straw is laid on top of the ground.

A few days before planting seedlings, beds can be covered with black material to warm the ground. Also, before planting a tomato seedling, you should begin to harden seedlings a week. Seedlings carried out for several hours every day on the street, in order to strengthen the immune system of the plant. Hardening must be carried out correctly, it is not necessary to carry out seedlings in the cold in the street, this can destroy it.

Seedlings poured waterbefore getting out of the box. After, gently, so as not to damage the rhizomes, take out. Before planting seedlings, the wells are well shed with water. Planted in the ground to a depth of not less than 5 cm, so that the bottom leaf of tomato remains above the ground. Planted at a distance of 20 cm from each other.

If the variety is tall, the rows need to be staggered, this will simplify the care of them in the future. Also for tall crops need a greenhouse with the appropriate size. To obtain a good harvest, the plant should not be limited in space.

If the seedlings are not ready, the seeds are planted in a greenhouse, in one place, and after the stalks have hiked over the ground, they start picking. And then, according to the scheme described above, tomatoes are planted at a distance of 20 cm from each other. So, tomatoes with proper care and lighting will give a harvest earlier than those tomatoes that were planted in open ground.

If seedlings were obtained during the cultivation of seeds of early ripening varieties, the result will be obtained even earlier.

Tomato care in the greenhouse

The most important steps in the care of tomatoes is timely watering, temperature and humidity. It is necessary to follow this, otherwise the culture may disappear, and it will be impossible to save. Care should be more intensive than for outdoor crops. You will have to monitor the temperature and humidity independently. The film is removed after 25-35 days, depending on the weather outside. The film is not thrown away, it will be able to serve for several more years.

Growing seedlings

The first stage on which the subsequent fate of your harvest depends is the cultivation of seedlings. There are a few simple rules to prevent seedlings from stretching too much.

For the first 35–40 days, the leaf system of tomatoes does not develop very actively, so special care is not needed at this time.

Experienced gardeners recommend watering seedlings at the root no more than three times: when all the seedlings ascended, two weeks after planting, and a few hours before planting in the greenhouse.

The temperature in the room with already grown seedlings should not exceed 18 ° C, and a week before planting, the seedlings must be hardened. To do this, they put on a balcony or other cool place, and also leave the windows open at night.

Planting tomato seedlings in the greenhouse

In order for the seedlings to take root well, you need to check whether the soil is warm enough. Indeed, the temperature of the soil can differ significantly from the air temperature. To check it is enough to stick a household thermometer into the ground and wait 10 minutes. If the temperature is 15 ° C and higher, then you can safely begin planting seedlings. If the temperature does not exceed 8 ° C, then planting seedlings in the greenhouse is premature, and you should wait, otherwise the already formed root system will simply freeze and your seedlings will die.

If your greenhouse is not polycarbonate, but a film one, you can go for a little trick to speed up the warming up of the earth. To do this, you need to tighten the ground in the greenhouse with a black film, which will attract the rays that are necessary for warming the ground. It is not necessary to do this in a polycarbonate greenhouse with stable warm weather.

Some gardeners are sure that by planting seedlings deeper into the soil, they do better for the plant, as if its root system is supposed to take root more reliably. However, this view is wrong. Especially if it concerns the middle zone and the northern regions. In this case, the deeper, the colder the soil. Therefore, it is recommended to plant seedlings to a depth of no more than 25 cm.

If you think that the seedlings are too high for such a depth, you can break off the lower leaves and place the plant at an angle or horizontally. Then the tomato will start to put additional roots on the prikopanny site of a stalk that even will go to its advantage. After all, as you know, it is the roots that extract nutrients for the plant from the soil. Accordingly, an increase in the number of roots will only benefit the plant.

Landing patterns

If you want to get the maximum yield and do not waste precious space in the greenhouse in vain, then you need to know that the planting of tomatoes is carried out according to the scheme. Depending on the varieties of planted tomatoes, there are several correct schemes.

  1. Low-growing varieties form mainly in 2-3 stems and are seated two rows in a checkerboard pattern. The gap between rows should be 55–60 cm, and the indentation between plants is 35–40 cm.
  2. Determinant varieties form in 1 stalk, which allows you to plant bushes heap. The gap between the rows is enough at 45-50 cm, and between the bushes 25-30 cm. With such a planting scheme, it is necessary to carefully monitor the bushes in order to prevent thicknesses in the rows.
  3. Tall varieties must also be planted in a checkerboard pattern, keeping a distance of 75-80 cm between the rows and 60-65 cm between the bushes of plants.

Seedling care

Caring for seedlings includes several stages.

Watering. The first 10–12 days to water the planted seedlings without urgent need is not advised. You need to give the plants how to take root, and then produce watering. Before tomatoes bloom, they are watered no more than once every 5–6 days. During flowering, it is necessary to water the plants more often.

Council Tomatoes are watered at the root in the morning.

Ventilation. Creating a suitable temperature and humidity levels is equally important when growing tomato seedlings in a greenhouse. Just need to arrange airing two hours after watering. This is especially true at a time when tomatoes begin to bloom, because wet pollen will not be able to get into the pistil and pollination does not take place. Tomatomas are absolutely not afraid of drafts, so feel free to open all the vents, doors, lift the film.

Garter. In order for the stems of tomatoes not to break under the weight of the fruit, and the tomatoes did not lie on the ground and did not rot, the seedlings planted on the third day after planting should be tied up. You can tie up to the frame and linear trellis. The main thing that the material for the garter does not damage the stems of tomatoes. Tie up tomatoes after 12–14 days to a height of two meters.

Masking Gathering or proper formation of the bush is necessary so that the forces of the plant are directed towards the growth and ripening of fruits, and not the growth of stems and leaves. Take care of the pasynkovanie so that your greenhouse does not turn into dense thickets.

Top dressing. In 12-14 days after planting the seedlings of tomatoes in the greenhouse it is necessary to feed the plants. To do this, dilute 0.5 liters of liquid mullein and 1 tbsp. l nitrophosphate in 10 liters of water. Under each bush you need to pour one liter of this mixture. The second feeding should be in 10 days. 1 tbsp. l fertilizers "Fertility" and 1 tsp. Potassium sulfate must be dissolved in 10 liters of water. During the summer, it is necessary to feed the bushes 3-4 times.

Council Fans of fertilizing the soil should be more careful with nitrogen-containing fertilizers, because an excess of nitrogen will lead to the active growth of greenery, but not to the growth and maturation of the fruit.

Pollination of tomatoes

Often, in order to form the ovaries of tomatoes in the greenhouse, the inflorescences are sometimes manually pollinated, because the bees do not fall into the closed greenhouse zone. Therefore, flower brushes should be gently shaken and after that it is desirable to sprinkle water on the flowers.

A few tips experienced gardeners

  1. In the spring, when preparing the soil for seedlings, last year’s compost can be laid in the lower layer, which has not yet completely decayed. At first, it will serve as an additional heating for the seedlings, and in the future it will give the bushes additional food.
  2. When planting seedlings in the ground, you must remove any leaves that are below ground level, or at its level. Do not forget about the sick and yellow leaves, because these leaves are the most vulnerable to diseases and infections, and can be a threat to the bush. The leaves are torn off just like the stepchildren in the morning, in order to dry the wounds by evening.
  3. Determine what is missing your tomatoes can be on the leaves. The lack of potassium is indicated by the appearance of the border and the folding of the leaves of the tomatoes. With a lack of phosphorus, the underside of the leaves becomes purple, and the leaves themselves rise. The lack of magnesium gives the leaves a marble color.

Any gardener, planting seedlings in a greenhouse, dreams that he will have unprecedented harvest this year. After all, the cultivation of tomatoes in the greenhouse process is quite long. And so I want to get the maximum yield on such a small area of the greenhouse, so that the fruits of summer efforts would later delight the whole winter. But the time spent is more than justified by rewarding you for your work with delicious juicy tomatoes, you just need to correctly perform simple actions and follow the advice.

Seedling preparation

Planting tomato seedlings in a greenhouse always requires a certain procedure:

  1. Seed treatment to increase their viability.
  2. Growing seedlings of vegetables in a greenhouse or at home.
  3. Preparation of beds in the greenhouse.
  4. Planting tomatoes in the greenhouse.

Caring for plants is necessary at all stages of their development. It is worth starting with the processing of seed. Tomato seedling grows well in a warm and fairly bright room. If it is planned to leave it on the balcony, then it should be well insulated.

Vegetable seeds must be wrapped in wet gauze. It is placed in hot water and kept there for about 2 hours. After that, an antiseptic treatment is carried out: the fabric with seed for 15 minutes is put in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

The next stage is top dressing. Well proven solution of wood ash. To prepare it is very simple. Need to take 1 tbsp. substance and stir in 1 liter of warm water. Gauze with seeds should remain in this solution for 2 days.

The hardening procedure allows vegetables to become more resistant to disease and weather conditions. To do this, put them in the refrigerator for 48 hours. Immediately before planting, they are heated for 5-6 hours in a warm place.

Planting seeds

The cultivation of tomato seedlings takes place in special boxes filled with high-quality soil intended for garden crops. If it is decided to leave the seed containers in the greenhouse, it is better to cover them with a film. This will protect weak young roots from possible temperature changes during the day and at night.

The earth should be warm and humid. It is allowed to use humus and complex mineral fertilizers, contributing to the development of the root system and the growth of green shoots. Seeds are placed in grooves to a depth of no more than 1 cm. The distance between future sprouts must be 2 cm.

The first 5-7 days, the boxes are kept in a dark place. As soon as shoots appear, the capacity should be transferred to where the young plants will receive a lot of sunlight. Seedlings 1 time per week can be watered with an ash solution or a liquid complex top dressing.

After 14 days, when the stems are well strengthened, it is recommended to pick a plant. Planted tomatoes need 50 days after the start of growth. At this point, the greenhouse should be fully prepared.

Tomatoes in the greenhouse: the secrets of a good harvest

Growing tomatoes in the open field is not very different from the rules of care for vegetables grown in greenhouses. Many wonder how to plant vegetables in order to guarantee a rich and high-quality harvest. To do this, you must observe a few simple conditions that are necessary for the growth and development of seedlings in a greenhouse:

  1. Planting tomato should be carried out when the soil is warm enough. This is a ground temperature above 10 ° C. You can wait until mid-May, when warm weather sets in, or put a heater in the greenhouse, artificially creating optimal conditions for planting vegetables.
  2. 7-10 days before the transfer of seedlings to open ground in the greenhouse make the beds. They should be about 40 cm in height and 70-80 cm in width. The distance between the rows is 60 cm. The earth is fertilized with humus and dug, then slightly watered.

It is strongly not recommended to add fresh manure to the soil. It overheats slowly, releasing a lot of heat. It can damage weak roots. Большое количество азота, которое содержится в свежем органическом удобрении, вызовет бурный рост зеленой массы и замедлит образование плодов.

Обработка рассады перед переносом в открытый грунт

Some gardeners know a special secret how to grow a rich crop of vegetables in a greenhouse, without fear of changeable spring weather and various diseases affecting cultivated plants. It is to prepare the seedlings before transferring them to the beds.

After the emergence of shoots, the boxes with plants are periodically exposed to the open air or are well ventilated in the room in which they are located. Additionally hardening the culture, it is possible to ensure its resistance to diseases and low temperature of the soil, which is not excluded even in the greenhouse.

A week before planting tomatoes in a greenhouse, seedlings are sprayed with a solution of boric acid. For its preparation, it is enough to take 1 g of substance per 1 l of water. This will keep the buds formed and increase the yield of the plant.

About half an hour before the start of work on the transfer of young shoots to a permanent place, they are recommended to water it plentifully.

Transplanting tomatoes from container to the greenhouse

Planting tomato seedlings is done carefully, so as not to damage the roots. It is better to cut off cotyledon leaves immediately. If the shoots have grown too large, the lower branches are also removed. Otherwise they will be in the ground.

In the garden beds are made with a depth of no more than 25 cm. The distance between them is 40-50 cm. This is necessary so that the grown bushes are not crowded. Seedlings put in the hole at a slight angle and slightly throw their roots with earth. Then watered and powdered again with soil. After that, the ground surface in the basal area is tamped.

If the shoots are too large, then experienced gardeners recommend not to make holes, but trenches. They should be laid plant almost horizontally, leaving a small above-ground part. This allows the seedlings to develop additional roots and settle down more quickly in new conditions.

During planting it is allowed to use complex mineral fertilizers subject to the instructions for use. Next to each bush is better to immediately build a support for the plants.

Growing tomatoes is quite a laborious process. But observance of the basic rules for the care of the crop allows you to get a great harvest of tasty and healthy vegetables.

Adding an article to a new collection

Tomato seedling on the windowsill pleases with its healthy appearance, and in some regions of our country it has even begun its “move” to a new place of residence. And gardeners feverishly refresh the rules of caring for tomatoes after they are planted in the greenhouse.

If you also forgot them, we will try to remind you promptly. We take into account that before growing seedlings you selected in advance varieties of tomatoes, zoned for your region.

Planting tomato seedlings in the greenhouse

How to determine whether the seedlings of tomatoes are ready for planting on a permanent place (in our case we are talking about a greenhouse)? To this important point, young plants should have a healthy appearance, strong root system and strong shoots. Usually such a seedling in height reaches already 20-35 cm and boasts 6-10 true leaves. The growth of tomato seedlings may vary slightly depending on the growing conditions, so it is better to focus on the overall appearance of the plants.

Terms of planting seedlings of tomatoes in the greenhouse can also vary depending on the region.

To calculate the time of planting of seedlings of tomatoes, it is possible to orient before starting the germination of seeds and to what sort of tomato was chosen:

  • early ripe varieties - the seedlings are ready for planting 40-50 days after the start of seed germination,
  • mid-season varieties - in 55-60 days,
  • late ripening varieties - after about 70 days.

It is also important to take care of the future residence of young tomatoes - in order to avoid disease transmission, they should not be planted in that place in the greenhouse where any solanaceous plants (potatoes, peppers, eggplant and tomatoes themselves) grew last season. The best predecessors for our seedlings are cucumbers, cabbage, carrots, onions and beans.

If you create the beds in the greenhouse again, then you can prepare your own soil mixture for the tomatoes from garden soil, peat, sawdust and humus (in the ratio 2: 1: 1: 1). When digging the beds should be made of complex mineral fertilizer. And before planting seedlings, the soil should be shed with a solution of potassium permanganate.

During planting, it is necessary to keep a certain distance between the plants, so that in the future, due to the thickening of the plantations, to avoid possible diseases (for example, root rot). Remember that for one plant you need at least 0.3 square meters of soil.

It is better to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse without a scorching direct sun - in the late afternoon or in cloudy weather. The main condition is to warm the soil under the seedlings to at least 10-15 ° C at the depth of the roots.

1-1.5 hours before planting, the seedlings need to be shed properly so that during the transplantation the earthen room does not crumble and the roots of young plants are damaged.

Bushes seedlings one by one gently removed from the tank where they grew, together with the earthy clod and vertically lowered into the prepared holes. Then, up to the cotyledon leaves, plants are covered with fertile soil, slightly tamped down and watered abundantly (4-5 liters of water in one well). If the seedlings "lived" in peat tablets, it is lowered into the wells directly with them.

If the seedlings overgrown, it is planted "lying" or bury more than usual.

To ensure that after planting, tomatoes in the greenhouse do not become infected with any disease, it is recommended to disinfect the entire room. To do this, you can use sulfur bomb, which will emit gas during combustion. It penetrates almost all the cracks in the greenhouse and, therefore, after such treatment there will be no parasites and mold left in it.

The greenhouse should be kept in smoke for about a week, after which it opens and ventilates.

It is also possible to protect planted tomatoes from diseases by treating the greenhouse with bleach. To prepare the working solution in 10 liters of boiled water, 500 grams of lime are added. Then the prepared mixture is sprayed in the greenhouse using a spray bottle.

How to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse: planting seeds

Before planting tomatoes in the greenhouse, it is necessary to figure out how to plant tomato seeds on seedlings. This should be done in February so that in March it was already possible to start transplanting tomato seedlings.

Soil preparation

Sowing tomato seeds should be carried out only in prepared soil. Therefore, before you start growing seedlings, you need to prepare the ground.

To prepare a soil mixture in which it will be possible to grow healthy tomato seedlings, it is necessary to add part of the sand and peat to the part of the sod soil. All of the above components are gently mixed and poured nutrient fluid. To prepare it in 5-8 liters of water, 10 grams of urea and superphosphate are added.

Also, seedlings will grow well in the soil, mixed with humus and peat. If desired, 400 grams of ash can be added to such a soil mixture to slightly accelerate the growth of tomatoes.

Capacity Selection

It is imperative to find a container in which you can plant tomato seeds. For planting planting material, you can use cassettes or drawers. Such containers are very economical and convenient, since they do not take up much space and can always be moved to another place. The main drawback of these tanks is the small depth, due to which one will have to pick the seedlings.

Many growers plant seedlings in deep pots, so as not to waste time picking. It is recommended to plant seeds in peat tanks, as they develop faster in them.

Many are interested in the correct planting of seeds for growing seedlings. To this end, a previously prepared soil mixture is added to each container. Then pits are made with a depth of no more than one centimeter. 2-3 seeds are added to each well, and the distance between the seeds should be 1-2 cm. All planted seeds are filled with earth and poured with water at room temperature. Containers with tomatoes are covered with foil and transferred to a room with a temperature of about 25 degrees.

Not all growers know how long they have to wait until the first shoots appear. Under optimal conditions, the first seedlings will begin to appear after 8-10 days after planting.

How to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse: planting seedlings in the ground

When the age of seedlings is more than 2-3 weeks, it can be transplanted. In this case, the planting of a tomato in a greenhouse should be carried out after the end of the frost, so that there will not be sharp temperature drops in the greenhouse.

Soil preparation

Transplantation of seedlings of tomatoes in the greenhouse is carried out after the preliminary preparation of the soil. First you need to sanitize it. There are various ways to disinfect the soil. Many people use a mixture made from copper sulfate and lime. To prepare it, add 75 grams of lime and 5 grams of vitriol to a liter of water. After that, every square meter of land is processed with a liter of the mixture created.

To plant a tomato in a greenhouse brought a lot of harvest, it is necessary to plant seedlings in fertilized soil. Therefore, in the greenhouse soil it is necessary to pre-add fresh humus with superphosphate and ash. Calcium must also be added to the soil, since its deficiency impairs the yield of greenhouse tomatoes.

How to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse: the general rules

Planting tomatoes in the greenhouse requires a competent approach. Therefore, before planting seedlings, it is necessary to study the following recommendations:

  • Choosing the right day. Planting tomatoes should be carried out only on cloudy days, since in the first few hours after transplanting the seedlings are too sensitive to sunlight. Of course, you can plant them on sunny days. In this case, you will have to find out how far the sun sets to plant the seedlings after it sets.
  • Depth of planting. Before planting tomatoes in the greenhouse, it is necessary to determine the optimal depth of planting. Seedlings placed in the ground so that the root was completely covered with soil. It is better to plant them at a slope to a depth of 15 cm, so as not to completely close the point of growth.
  • Watering. When all plants are transplanted, all the bushes should be poured abundantly with water.

How to plant tomatoes: planting scheme

Before planting seedlings, it is necessary to figure out how to locate it in the greenhouse. The scheme of planting tomatoes in the greenhouse will help to plant the seedlings correctly and determine the optimal planting density. There are several ways to locate seedlings:

  • Two-row planting scheme tomato. Many growers use it in greenhouses 6x3 or 3x8 meters. In this case, the row width is one and a half meters, and the length can be arbitrary. With a two-row planting, the distance between each seedling should be at least 55 cm.
  • Chess landing scheme. We plant seedlings also in two rows, but at the same time the bushes of each row are shifted by 30-40 cm forward. Chess arrangement of bushes is recommended to use when growing undersized tomato bushes.

After the planting of tomato seedlings in the greenhouse is completed, it is necessary to become familiar with the features of caring for the bushes.

You can get a good harvest only if you water the tomatoes correctly. Every 3 or 4 days each bush should be filled with a liter of water. At the same time, it is not recommended to exceed the daily watering rate, since a large amount of moisture can lead to rotting of the roots.

Tomatoes are known for consuming a large amount of potassium during cultivation. They need it for the formation of the root system and roots. Therefore, in order for the plant to be strong, it is necessary to regularly add potassium to the soil. Also, for the normal development of bushes, the soil should be fed with ash and humus, which contain a lot of mineral components. Regular fertilizers contribute to the normal growth of seedlings and accelerate the formation of fruits.

Warming up the soil

For the successful growth of thermophilic plants is important not only the temperature of the air, but also the soil. In the cold land they can not be planted categorically.
At best, the seedlings will hurt and take root badly in a new place, at worst - they will simply die. Therefore, before you put the tomatoes in the greenhouse, you need to warm up the soil.
In a heated greenhouse, this is not a problem, as is the case when disembarking takes place at the end of May - June, since by this time the earth warms up independently. But what to do if you want to get an early harvest?
The instructions below will help you solve this problem:

  • Make sure that all the vents in the greenhouse are closed and there are no gaps from broken film or cracked glass anywhere. If necessary, troubleshoot any problems.
  • Glass or greenhouse made of polyethylene additionally cover with another layer of transparent film.
  • Dig in or loosen the ground inside, then spread out the black film on top. Under it, the ground warms up faster, as the black color attracts the sun's rays.

Black plastic film

  • Close the door tightly.

Of course, you can put a heater inside, but this is done only if you live permanently on the site. After a few days, you can check the temperature of the soil with a regular household or a special thermometer.
Planting a tomato in a greenhouse is allowed at its values above +10 degrees. Even better - wait until the earth warms up to +15 degrees.

In the photo - a device for measuring the temperature and humidity of the soil

We make beds

The beds in the greenhouse are made about a week before planting tomatoes. Their device consists in creating mounds 30-40 cm high from fertile land mixed with humus.
The ridges are made 60-80 cm wide by raking the soil from between the rows. The width of the passage between the beds should be at least 60 cm.
For each such ridge later, seedlings will be planted in one row.

Council If the greenhouse is small, single row planting is too wasteful. In such cases, it is better to arrange the high beds, making their own sides of the boards.
Their width should allow the planting of plants in two rows with a distance between them of about half a meter.

Convenient layout for narrow greenhouses - single-row beds along the walls and two-row in the center

Landing in place

Planting tomatoes in the greenhouse begins with the preparation of holes. They are made in compliance with the following rules:

  • The distance between the holes should be at least 50-60 cm so that as the plants grow they do not interfere with each other.
  • The depth of the hole is 20-25 cm, not more, especially if the landing is done in early spring. At greater depths, the ground may still be cold.
  • Potash, phosphate and nitrogen fertilizers should be added to each well (see Top dressing tomatoes in the greenhouse, which fertilizers and when to use). They are dissolved in water, strictly adhering to the instructions on the packaging, and plentifully shed the soil.

Note! Do not bring fresh manure into the ground before planting, as many gardeners usually do. Excess nitrogen will lead to the fact that instead of tomatoes, you get a great harvest of tops.

When the wells are ready, the seedlings are carefully removed from the crates or cups and set not vertically, but slightly at an angle to the surface of the bed, and sprinkled the roots with earth. Then once again watered, filled up the hole completely and slightly compacted the earth around.

In a couple of days, the seedling will rise by itself.

How to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse, if the seedlings are too stretched, overgrown? In this case not the holes are made, but the grooves on the top of the beds.
Plants are stacked in them almost horizontally, so that most of the stem is covered with earth. This method is doubly effective, as it allows not to deepen the seedlings into the soil, and new roots feeding the plant are formed on the hemmed stem.

Newly formed roots

All this should be done in the evening or on an overcast day, since excessive solar activity does not contribute to a good survival of the seedlings. It remains to say that before planting tomatoes in the greenhouse, you need to prepare pegs for their garters.
They are installed next to each plant at the time of planting. If you do this later, you can damage the roots.

What varieties of tomatoes to choose for planting in greenhouse conditions

Before planting tomatoes in the greenhouse, you must initially choose the right grade. Costs and profits will depend on this.
Modern gardeners already know about all existing greenhouse varieties of tomatoes, but for beginners such information will be very useful.
There are such types of tomatoes:

  • "Samara" is a sweet and very juicy variety, which is intended for cultivation in closed ground.
  • “Honey drop” is a very sweet and bulk variety.
  • "Moneymaker" - designed for growing tomatoes in the greenhouse. Planted in March and the fruits appear in the summer.
  • "Long Keeper" - gives fruit for 4 kg from a bush.
  • "Miracle of the Earth" - the most popular variety among summer residents for growing tomatoes in greenhouse conditions.
  • "Bull's heart" - has a high yield.
  • Dina is a very fertile variety. It has fruits up to 4.5 kg from a bush.

These are the most popular varieties that are most often used in greenhouses for growing tomatoes.

  • Polycarbonate on any type of frame construction and so on.
  • They also differ in their shape and size, see photos.

Then the question arises: In what type of greenhouse is it best to grow tomato seedlings and then plant it?
Most gardeners can grow crops in film greenhouses. But here you should pay attention to the fact that tomatoes are considered heat-loving plants. They will need to provide a warm temperature in the greenhouse (see Thermostat for a greenhouse - choose the right one).
If the greenhouse is used only in spring, then it will not be possible to plant tomato seedlings in it. Especially if it is from film.

Council For the cultivation of tomatoes is best to use greenhouses made of polycarbonate.
