It is difficult to imagine a farmer who does not grow greens on his plot. Any gardener will definitely allocate a bed for sowing parsley. No summer dish can do without this greenery. Parsley has a wide range of applications. It is added to hot dishes, salads, used for decoration, making preparations for the winter in dry or frozen form, eaten raw as a spicy herb. With proper care, planting in open ground and before winter, and in the spring is not difficult.
Characteristics and useful properties of parsley
Parsley is of two kinds - root and leaf. Contains a large number of nutrients:
- vitamins PP, E, C (5 times more than in lemon and rosehip),
- the elements P (phosphorus), Ce (selenium), K (potassium),
- calcium, iron, magnesium,
- complex of water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins thiamine, riboflavin, retinol.
The root is different from the leaf that is used in food root vegetableformed at the end of the season. It has the same taste properties as the sheet.
Sheet may be - normal and curly. Curly is used to add to dishes and as decoration.
Soaking for successful germination
It should be noted that the seeds contain essential oils that prevent germination. In order for the seeds to sprout faster before planting it is necessary to soak them.
You can do this in one of the following ways:
- Method 1. Before soaking, seeds are dipped in hot water (not boiling water). Under the influence of hot water from the seeds will wash off the essential oils. Then pour water at room temperature (19-23 degrees) to the bottom of the saucer, pour out the seeds and leave for 12 hours. Then the seeds need to soak in a growth stimulator. In the process of soaking, they need to be pulled out every 3 hours so that oxygen goes to the seeds. After three days, the seeds are ready for planting.
- Method 2. Before soaking, pour vodka on the bottom of the saucer and dip seeds wrapped in cheesecloth for 15–20 minutes into it. You should carefully observe the time that the seeds did not get burned. After removing the vodka from the saucer, rinse the seeds thoroughly with water and dry.
Also, some gardeners use soaking parsley, carrot or dill seeds in milk, and are satisfied with the result.
How to make the treatment and preparation of the soil for cultivation
Before planting seeds in the garden it is necessary to prepare and process the soil. The soil begins to prepare in the fall. Garden beds are dug up and applied to the soil. mullein.
If the soil is predominantly clayy add sifted river sand and sawdust. In the spring, the ground must be well loosened mineral fertilizers (it is better to plant parsley in fertile soil).
For the growth of greenery is best suited garden, where previously grown tomatoes, zucchini, onions, cucumbers. Garden beds should be in the sun, or slightly shaded. Sow seeds need no deeper than 1 cm. Dust the grooves with earth, water well, mulch with humus or cover with polyethylene.
Care after planting in open ground
When the first shoots will ascend loosen the soil and thin out the seedlings. The first thinning is carried out in the presence of 2-3 sheets. The distance between the bushes should be more than 2 cm.
The second thinning must be performed in the presence of 5-6 sheets. Leave between plants no more than 6 cm.
Loosening the soil and removing weeds should be done at least 4 times.
For the season you need to make additional feeding 2 times and be sure to loosen no less than 4 times. The first dressing is applied to the soil if the seedlings have 2-3 leaves. Nitrogen-rich fertilizers are best suited for this purpose.
Cut stalks necessary as close to the ground as possible. It is not recommended to immediately cut a large number of leaves from a bush in one day. You need to cut 1/3 of the bush to give the bush time to recover. If you do not plan to collect seeds, the stem with buds must be removed, since new leaves will not grow.
A prerequisite for growing a good crop is regular watering, weeding and loosening the soil. Watering should be carried out in the evening. Loosening is necessary to give oxygen access to the roots of the plant. If there is a need for harvesting late parsley, it is recommended to sow twice a month.
The following varieties are recommended for planting in spring:
- Parsley leaf "Ordinary". Refers to early ripening varieties. Matures in 70 days. The taste is spicy, the leaves are dissected, the socket is powerful. Only leaves are good for food.
- «Breeze"- sheet. The term of aging is 80 days. Taste is gentle, retains freshness and taste for a long time after cutting.
- «Aster"- variety curly. Matures after 65 days. After cutting, the bush quickly recovers and grows.
- «Fruitful"- a variety of root greens, has a pointed root. The term of aging is 130 days,
- «Festival”- leaf parsley. The ripening period is 56-65 days. The leaves have a dark green color, fragrant, strongly dissected. After cutting it grows well.
How to sow seeds for the winter
Seeds, wintered in the ground, germinate very active. Cutting and the first greens, garden can be used again.
The soil for planting should be prepared in the fall. Having dug a bed it is necessary to apply fertilizer. For this purpose it is better to use mullein.
In November, after the onset of frost, when the topsoil is frozen by 2 cm, you can sow the seeds. Seeds not recommended to soakso that they do not ascend before the onset of frost.
In the soil it is necessary to make grooves with a depth of 2 cm with a distance between rows of 15–20 cm. Pour a layer of quick lime of 0.5 cm thick into the grooves and sow parsley seeds thickly in them. Fill the grooves with earth and mulch with humus. Humus will keep warm and protect from wind.
In the spring, as soon as shoots appear, it is necessary to water 3 times a week with warm water. Water the plants should be in the evening.
When planting before winter, after the emergence of shoots, watering 3 times a week
After the appearance of 2 leaflets on the seedlings, the first thinning must be performed. Leave only the strongest shoots. The second thinning is performed when there are 5-6 leaflets on the seedlings. The distance honey bushes leave 10 cm.
Feed must be made twice. The first time after the leaves appear. The second feeding is carried out in two weeks. After applying the dressing, watering is necessary so that the nutrients penetrate well into the soil and dissolve there.
If the soil is not depleted in top dressing is not necessary, as the parsley does not like the abundance of fertilizers.
Causes of poor seed germination
Even experienced gardeners sometimes face the problem of poor parsley germination. Let's try to understand the reasons why it may not rise:
- Increased soil acidity. Normalize the acidity level by adding ash to the soil,
- Heavy soil. If the parsley seeds are deeply planted, it cannot penetrate a thick layer of soil. It is necessary to sow to a depth of no more than 1 cm in the spring and 1.5 cm for the winter. In the event that the clay soil needs to be added to the soil sifted river sand and sawdust,
- Shade Bed. Greens grow well in sunny beds. In the shadows can not ascend at all. In the case of seedlings on shaded beds, it will be very pale, with a weak aroma and poorly pronounced taste,
- Seeds with poor shelf life. Saves germination for only three years. To get a good harvest you need to sow only fresh seeds,
- Long germination period. The high content in the seeds of essential oils repels water and makes germination difficult. To speed up the process, seeds are soaked in hot water.
Harvesting and storage
The best way to store parsley leaves is considered freezing. Why? - When frozen, parsley does not lose its flavor, the color remains the same, its taste does not change.
Wash the parsley leaves, towel dry, chop finely. Sliced leaves folded in a plastic bag and put in the freezer, even when frozen, they will look great.
If necessary, the right amount is easily separated from the total mass (frozen parsley is cut easily). Parsley stalks to collect in small bunches and freeze.
Their used in the preparation of any hot dishes. It is enough for 5 minutes before the end of cooking to lower a bunch of stems into a hot dish. This will improve its taste. Also parsley can be stored in a dry form, having previously dried it in a dry room with poor lighting.
Root parsley is harvested in the late autumn, before the onset of frost. Cut the leaves and store in the basement, sprinkling it with sand.
This spicy and healthy plant with proper planting and proper care will surely please with a rich, full of vitamins harvest. Planting and growing it is easy, the main thing is to carry out seed treatment and care for it properly.
Methods of planting and care for parsley in the open field
The peculiarity of parsley is that in the first season all the forces of the plant go on growing both the foliage and the root. If the root crop is planted in the second year or left to winter, a rosette of leaves will appear in April, and in the summer parsley will bloom. For the cultivation of parsley in the open field use as far as methods, allowing to obtain the earliest and abundant crop of greens.
If in the spring parsley was planted in open ground with seeds, then grown plants can be left in the winter. To parsley had time to prepare for the end of the growing season, it is better to cut the leaves from it no later than September, and with the arrival of cold weather, plants spud and cover with a layer of mulch from foliage, straw or pine needles.
With the onset of spring and the thawing of snow, the mulch is removed, and a film shelter is made above the beds. How long to wait for the leaves to appear, and how long does parsley grow in this case? Fresh parsley leaves will arrive on the table already in April, and the leaves can be cut, until the peduncle rises above the rosette.
If parsley is not left for winter in the soil, then roots stored in the basement in early spring:
So parsley will give three early crops of greens.
The main method is planting parsley seeds in open ground. At the same time, it is important to take into account that the culture is not distinguished by rapid germination. Therefore, parsley is more often sown with germinated seeds from early spring until July. In this case, the crop manages to yield one crop and can successfully overwinter.
Root varieties sown no later than mid-May, so that the parsley has time to form a full-fledged root crop.
Dry seeds fall into the soil before winter. In this case, they are buried in the ground from the second half of October to the very frost, and when the snow cover is established, they are additionally covered with snow. In the spring, such crops start developing at 4 ° C, they can be grown under film or in open ground, because parsley grown in open ground is not terrible even to frosts down to –9 ° C.
Applicable to the cultivation of parsley and rassadny method. Germinated seeds first grow in peat cups or tablets, and in April, at the age of 30–40 days, they are transplanted into open ground. As a result of using this technique, you can get early greens and spend up to six fees for the summer season.
Planting parsley seeds in open ground
Due to the frost resistance of parsley seeds, this crop is sown starting from early spring. Is it possible to plant parsley in July, will the plant have time to give greens? Up to the end of July or the first decade of August, leaf varieties can be sown. If parsley is intended to produce root crops, then it is unlikely to wait for good results from the plants sown after mid-May.
The July crops of green varieties can give the foliage in the second half of summer, then leave before winter and give a harvest next year.
Without prior preparation, parsley seeds hatch very slowly. How much does parsley grow? This usually happens not earlier than in 2-3 weeks. Seed material collected not earlier than a year ago has greater vigor and germination, but in this case germination can be accelerated:
- Before spring or summer sowing in open ground, seed is soaked in water with a temperature of 18–22 ° C.
- The water in the seed tank is changed every 3–4 hours.
- After 2-3 days for another 18 hours, they are left in a solution of growth stimulant or trace elements. It is better if oxygen is flowing through the liquid at this time, which will speed up the process of sowing the seed.
- Shoots from nakliuvshihsya seeds appear within a week.
When squaring parsley in open ground, seeds require about 1 gram of prepared seeds per square meter of ridge. If the crop is sown in summer, then before embedding into the soil the ridge is watered abundantly, and the number of seeds per square meter is increased by one third.
Growing parsley in the open field provides for the preservation between individual plants of a small interval, from 4 to 12 cm, depending on the type and variety:
- Parsley is sown with an interval of 1-4 cm, while the seeds fall into the groove individually.
- Parsley of common varieties is sown at a distance of 10–12 cm, and curly with an interval of 8–10 cm. This crop is sown in 3 or 4 seeds per nest, followed by thinning.
The depth of parsley seed placement during spring or summer sowing is 6–10 mm; in the fall, the grooves are made twice as deep.
After planting parsley in open ground with seeds and powders of furrows, the soil is slightly compacted, watering is carried out on the plantations, which are mulched or covered with foil.
Care for parsley when grown in open ground
When choosing a site for planting and caring for parsley in the open field, it is better to give preference to the beds where squash, pumpkins, cucumbers or tomatoes used to grow. Re-sowing after parsley or other umbellas is carried out after three to four years. For parsley, especially root varieties, a loose, cultivated soil rich in organic matter is needed.
Excessive density of the soil leads to the deformities of the roots, the seeds grow worse and slower.
In the autumn, when preparing the parsley plot, when digging per square meter, from 3 to 5 kg of rotted manure or humus is introduced. After the snow melts, the beds are fertilized in a complex way. In this case there are 4 kg of compost, 15 grams of superphosphate, 10 grams of potassium chloride and 20 grams of saltpeter per square meter.
Until the seedlings appear above the ground, care and cultivation of parsley consists in gentle watering and airing under the sowing film. Emerging weeds are removed, and after germination, not only weeding, but also loosening the soil, feeding and thinning of the seedlings, which is carried out at the stage of 2-3 split leaves, are added to the measures for caring the parsley planted in the open ground.
Before the formation of a full-fledged leaf rosette, parsley is twice fed with the extract of mullein or compost. 8–10 liters of water take 1 kg of organic matter, about 15 grams of superphosphate and the same amount of potassium sulfate. In August, plants, especially those grown for root vegetables, should no longer receive nitrogenous fertilizers so that this element does not accumulate in the roots and the aerial parts of the plant.
Parsley, planted in open ground with seeds, responds well to foliar nutrition with microelements, which also suit twice during the growing season.
Parsley tolerates hot days, but the greens devoid of moisture becomes noticeably rougher and tougher, but it accumulates aromatics and essential oils better:
- If parsley is intended for fresh consumption, the plant needs watering that provides 60–70% of soil moisture.
- To get a more fragrant raw material for drying, a couple of weeks before picking parsley limit in watering.
Collecting cold-resistant parsley can be kept until late autumn, until frost begins.
At the same time, remove the roots going to storage. Plants remaining to winter in the ground, gently spud and mulch.
What is parsley
Parsley is a herbaceous annual, biennial plant of a small genus of Parsley, belonging to family Umbrella or Celery (Celery).
The Mediterranean island of Sardinia is considered the birthplace of fragrant grass, although in the wild it can be found along the entire coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
The grass has an erect stem topped with leaves. Each leaf of the plant along the edge is divided into two or three feathers. Parsley flowers have heart-shaped form. They are whitish or greenish-yellow color. Grass seeds are ovoid and slightly flattened laterally.
This type of plant always forms only a root crop with a rosette of foliage. Outwardly, it resembles carrots whitish or yellowish. The seeds of the root parsley appear in the second year of growth.
Root vegetables are famous for their medicinal properties. They can heal wounds, preserve vision, strengthen gums and stimulate kidney activity. These roots are revered in cooking. Их используют как пряность при создании маринадов, рассолов для консервирования, а также в процессе приготовления супов.
Самые известные сорта корневого вида:
Листовой вид растения отличается тем, что не образует корнеплода. Fragrant greens are used in cooking as an ingredient in the preparation of salads, as well as a spice in the preparation of side dishes and first courses.
The leaf part of the herb is used not only fresh, but also dried, as well as frozen. When storage conditions are observed, the beneficial properties of the plant can be maintained throughout the year.
There are two varieties of leaf parsley:
They differ only in appearance. In a smooth variety of spicy grass, the leaves are flat, and in curly leaves - corrugated or corrugated.
The varieties of leaf types of spices are many, but the most popular The following are considered:
Usually parsley is grown from seeds, only rarely resorting to a seedling method of cultivation.
First you need to decide on the location of the beds for culture. It should be a well-lit and not too wet area with light, loose and fertile soil. It is best to grow light green loam or sandy loam with an acidity level of 6.5 to 7.0.
The best time for sowing parsley in the open ground is mid-spring or mid-autumn. Leaf varieties can be sown every two weeks until the end of July, so that throughout the summer fresh greens are on the table.
Before planting, seeds should be soaked in water for half an hour, as they germinate more slowly when dry. After soaking the seeds follows dry a little so that they do not stick to your hands.
On the garden bed it is necessary to make grooves with a depth of 1 to 1.5 cm at a distance of 20 cm from each other. Then they should be well watered with warm water. When it is fully absorbed you can plant the seeds. It remains only to seal the grooves with soil and compact it. After two to three weeks, you can expect the first shoots.
Sowing under the winter is carried out in almost the same way, but with dry seeds. In addition, after planting the bed should be mulched peat, humus.
Fragrant greens love moisture and are not afraid of the cold. Its seeds can germinate already at a temperature of from 1 to 5 ºC. Shoots withstand cold weather down to -9 ºC.
Thanks to such unpretentiousness care of a plant consists in actions, usual for the gardener, such as:
- thinning of seedlings
- timely weeding,
- soil loosening
- regular watering
- top dressing.
Weeding beds better on the day after watering or rain. This will simultaneously remove weeds and destroy the crust formed on the ground, which prevents aeration of the roots.
Growing in the open ground parsley needs regular watering. Determine the need for moisture can be as its leaves. Water the plant better early in the morning or after sunset. Water must be separated and have the same temperature as the surrounding air. To do this, you can warm it in the sun.
Leaf varieties of plants need nitrogen fertilizers more than root ones, because they are fertilized twice a season. Usually for this use saltpeter: 50 g of the substance is distributed over an area of 10 m².
Root varieties prefer phosphorus and potassium. Therefore, they are fed in the spring with full mineral fertilizer. At the end of the summer, a second dressing is made: 50 g of potassium salt, 70 g of superphosphate interfere with the soil over an area of 10 m².
When growing garden crops, it is important to take into account crop rotation. For parsley, good predecessors are:
You should not grow fragrant grass after other umbrella crops, just as it is better not to plant them for 4–5 years in the beds where parsley grew.
After spicy greens, the following cultures will grow well in this place:
All these activities will allow to grow a good harvest of parsley. Planting and care in the open field does not require much work.
Pests and diseases
The most common diseases of parsley are as follows:
- Mealy dew. The disease manifests itself in the form of a loose white plaque on the shoots and leaves of the plant. Rainy weather with sudden changes in air temperature can cause illness. Way of struggle: after harvesting, it is necessary to clear the beds from all plant residues, and then to treat the soil with the “Bayleton” preparation.
- Stolbur. In diseased plants, the edges of the leaves first turn red, and then the redness covers the whole foliage. Transferred disease zikadkami. The way of struggle: preventing the emergence of tsikadok on the beds, timely weeding of crops, treatment of plants with herbicides.
- Black rot This disease can affect parsley both in the beds and during storage. At the initial stage of development of the disease can be determined by the defeat of the root collar. If in case of black rot detection it is not treated, then all the diseased plants and roots will die. Way of struggle: in order to prevent the occurrence of the disease, it is necessary to observe crop rotation and timely remove plant residues. For the prevention of the disease in mid-summer, the soil around the root crops can be treated with the preparation "Barrier".
- White spot. The disease affects the leaves and stems of the plant. It appears as brown spots on the lower leaves of parsley. Gradually, the disease covers all the leaves, reducing crop yield. Way of struggle: at the end of the growth period, it is necessary to destroy all plant residues and carefully dig up the area. The seeds before sowing in the soil is better to warm at a temperature of 45−50 ºC. In early July, plants can be treated twice with a solution of the drug "Energen" with an interval of ten days. To create a solution, twenty drops of the drug are dissolved in one liter of water.
- Rust. Most often, the disease affects the culture in early summer. You can determine it by the reddish-brown spots on the underside of the foliage. Diseased leaves turn yellow and dry ahead of time, lose taste. Method of struggle: the same method is used as in the case of white spot disease.
- Early burn. The disease manifests itself in the form of yellowish or brown irregular spots on the leaves and stems of the culture. If high humidity is present, spots are covered with a gray patina. Particularly active disease develops during warm wet days and foggy nights with abundant morning dew. Way struggle: In the early stages of the disease, the site can be treated with a one-percent Bordeaux mixture. If necessary, the treatment is repeated several times with an interval of 10−12 days.
No less dangerous for parsley are pests, these include:
- Carrot leafblock. This small insect feeds on the sap of the plant, and its larvae not only pull the juice from the plant, but also wrap themselves in the leaves of the culture. It is possible to destroy a pest by means of double treatment of plants with Iskra, Iskra Bio and Phyto-Farm preparations. The first treatment is carried out in May, as adult insects appear at this time. The second treatment should be carried out in June, since the larvae appear this month.
- Stem nematode. When appearing on parsley, this small worm lays its eggs in the plant's tissue, then feeds on the juice of the crop. As a preventive measure, seeds are sown in water for 45–50 ºC before sowing for fifteen minutes. Autumn beds necessarily dig deep.
- Carrot fly This pest is a very small green insect. Infection with flies will cause the parsley leaves to turn yellow and dry. This kind of flies attracts the smell of carrot tops. To hide it, you can spray the carrot with the following solution: dissolve a tablespoon of red or black pepper in ten liters of water, as well as a little liquid soap. The fly spends the winter in the soil, so deep autumn digging of the beds will be a good preventive measure.
- Gourd aphid. This omnivorous pest appears on plants at the end of June. Parsley juices serve as food for aphids, therefore the affected plant stops growing and dies. To prevent infection by aphids should be regularly remove weeds, as well as yellowed parts of plants. The beds after harvesting need to dig deep. Sick parsley must be treated with soapy water.
Tasty and healthy parsley is loved by almost everyone. Following simple rules, you can grow a rich harvest of wonderful grass, which will give a unique aroma and taste to dishes, as well as strengthen the health of the whole family.
Then plant parsley
The first rule of growing parsley is to choose a place in the garden, not depleted by predecessors. Some cultures can even leave behind the larvae of pests or pathogens in the ground, so this process should be considered carefully.
The best predecessors for parsley:
- all pumpkin cultures,
Do not use for planting beds, which were grown greens and spices - most of the diseases and pests they share with parsley.
Some experienced gardeners recommend growing parsley in the beds, which were empty for 1-2 years - this ensures that you can get a bountiful harvest without the hassle. Another secret of cultivating a crop is to sow the land with mustard, which fertilizes the ground, makes it easy, destroys harmful insects, and disinfects the upper layers of the soil, 3-5 months before being sent to the ground. One month before the planned planting, it remains to cut off the young stems of the siderata and dig up the beds.
Terms of planting in the greenhouse
Parsley - a culture that does not require special attention, it is easy to take root even in uncomfortable conditions, loves the sun's rays and fresh air. Spice is grown in greenhouses rarely - it is better to use closed beds for capricious crops.
If it was decided to use closed beds for planting parsley, the planting process can be started from spring to August. For growing greens in the greenhouse it is better to use seedlings - this will allow you to get soon fragrant and healthy raw materials.
Before planting seeds for seedlings, it is necessary to take into account the timing of sprouting - in warm conditions sprouts appear after 2-3 weeks. A lot of time will pass before the young plants move to the beds in the greenhouse.
Important!Young parsley grows long and 3-5 weeks pass from the appearance of sprouts to the time of transplantation.
When is it best to sow parsley: fall or spring
The question of interest to gardeners who first start growing parsley, when to send seeds to the ground in order to get strong shoots, rapidly growing and giving a bountiful harvest? There are opinions that the autumn planting allows you to grow strong plants, but experienced gardeners recommend planting in the spring.
The work of planting parsley in the spring has the advantages:
- there is no need to use a seedling method for early harvest,
- landing can be done immediately after the descent of snow,
- young plants under the warm spring sun are rapidly growing and developing,
- spring shoots are less likely to get sick,
- plants are powerful, do not require frequent fertilizing.
Another plus of spring planting of the crop - even if some seeds did not sprout, it is never too late to re-plant. More than one generation of young plants will have time to ascend to warm summer days.
A prerequisite for spring planting is to conduct it only after the ground surface warms up to five degrees. If the soil is cold and too wet, there is a risk of losing planting material - the seeds will begin to rot and will not sprout.
Terms of landing in the winter
Autumn planting has its advantages, although they are smaller than those of spring planting. It is recommended to sow the seeds in advance, they should sprout. It is desirable to prepare the beds even in the summer - to bring in nutrients (peat, compost), treat with weed remedies. If the plants do not have time to get stronger, you have to build a covering for them, it is also better to take care of it in advance, otherwise there is a risk of freezing bushes.
In warm regions, it is recommended to plant parsley in October-November, if autumn spoils with fine days, it is possible to sow planting material into prepared soil even in early December. You can speed up the germination process - soak the seeds for several days in a growth promoter. Another important point to consider when planting - parsley grains are coated with essential oils that inhibit germination. To cope with the problem is simple - before soaking, send the seeds into hot water, be sure to make sure that it is not boiling water.
The duration of the procedure is no more than a quarter of an hour; this is enough to remove the essential oils and prepare the planting material for germination.
In order to get seedlings with the onset of spring, which will delight with fragrant leaves at different times, it is recommended to carry out several plantings of seeds. Landing should be done in October-November, just before the snow falls. Such a combination of sowing will allow you to get the first harvest immediately after the snow has come down, and the seeds that did not have time to ascend before winter will be given lush bushes and a generous harvest in late spring or early summer.
Another rule that should not be forgotten when sowing a crop is that sprouting and successful wintering depend on parsley varieties. Some of them can not stand the winter, others feel comfortable even in extreme cold.
Important! To avoid mistakes, you need to carefully study the information on the packaging with planting material - it describes in detail how the variety endures cold, and whether it should not be planted only in spring.
When to sow parsley in the Kuban
It is recommended to sow parsley in the Kuban only in spring - despite the endurance of the crop, it is better not to check how it tolerates cool climatic conditions. It is not necessary to wait for the snow to come off - experienced gardeners are clearing the ground with a broom and sowing the crop. It is better to prepare the soil in the fall - this will allow the spring not to engage in nutrient components and digging into the soil.
Another trick to sowing parsley successfully is to pour boiling water over the grooves and sprinkle with wood ash. Only after that send the planting material to the ground. Be sure to fill the seeds with dry earth. The last stage of landing is the return to the place of the previously removed layer of snow.
In addition to preparing the beds, it is recommended to stock up in the fall with a bag of substrate - it is necessary to sprinkle the seeds with dry soil - wet or frozen soil can harm the planting material. It is also better to make furrows when preparing the beds - in the frozen ground it is quite difficult to do this.
Shoots with such a landing appear together immediately after the descent of snow. The treatment is followed by the usual - removal of weeds, timely irrigation of the soil, the fight against diseases or pests.
How much does parsley grow
Before you start growing parsley, many gardeners are worried about another issue - how much does this crop grow and when will it be necessary to look for another place to plant it. If the greenhouse is used for growing greens, the crop will be harvested for a whole year, especially if you take care of the proper preparation of the beds and a slight warming of the room.
The use of the greenhouse has one significant disadvantage - parsley grows quickly and matures, which affects taste and flavor. It is the young leaves have the most intense smell. Indoors, it is recommended to prolong the life of greenery, timely removing young lower leaves, you can use them immediately in the kitchen or make blanks from them. Changing the location of parsley will have to be once in one or two years - such terms are recommended when grown in a greenhouse.
If the crop is planted in open beds, parsley can grow without a change in location for up to five years. One should not expect that it will turn out to prolong the life of the plants so much without the active participation of the owners — without additional fertilizing, timely watering, removing weeds, and even wintering covers — the age of the crop will significantly decrease.
What to plant after parsley next year
Parsley is a great precursor to many crops. After the green curls, it is recommended to plant the tuberous plants (Jerusalem artichoke, potato) - usually the crop pleases even without constant abundant dressings. Beetroot, cucumber, and zucchini are excellent in the beds.
The parsley root system passes in the upper layers of the soil without depleting the soil. Despite this, we should not forget about the preliminary preparation of the beds after the removal of the culture - making compost, peat required.
Even starting gardeners do not usually have any particular difficulties with growing parsley - this culture is unpretentious, it is characterized by good germination, does not require certain skills and knowledge. Despite this, it is better to get acquainted in advance with the planting dates of a plant with valuable qualities - this will allow you to get a good harvest in the shortest possible time.
How to plant parsley seeds in open ground?
This may be fallen leaves, needles or straw. In the spring, when the snow melts, the mulch should be removed and the beds covered with covering material. The most common way: it is spring to sow different varieties of seeds in open ground.
The best seeds for planting: curly, ordinary, sugar. It is necessary to look at the weather - planting so that the temperature after sowing is no more than 5 degrees, so that the seeds do not germinate. You can also consider this method of growing plants in the open field, as a seedling method. There is nothing difficult.
Parsley seeds are sown in peat pots, and when the plants grow and get stronger, in 30-40 days, you can transplant into open ground. Sowing parsley, produced before the month of July, can give a good harvest of greenery, and the roots are well wintered.
Since these are closely related plants, the seeds germinate only after 2 to 3 weeks, and after another 3 weeks you can cut the greens. Slightly accelerate the process can, if before sowing, soak the seeds for 3 days in warm water, changing the water periodically. Then soak the seeds soaked in water for a day in a growth stimulator. Now you can sow. With this method of planting parsley in the open ground shoots appear 10 days earlier. Planting and care in the open field does not take much trouble. In addition to fertilizing during planting, the plants need watering, loosening, weeding and fertilizing throughout the summer. After the seeds have risen, the plants must be thinned, leaving a distance of 3 to 5 centimeters between them. Planting of any varieties of seeds in the spring by 6-8 centimeters, and in the autumn of 10 - 12 centimeters. In the spring after sowing, a bed in an open ground is covered with a covering material to preserve warm air. Parsley grows well in the beds, where there used to be melons and tomatoes. Planting greenery again at the same place is possible in 3 - 4 years.
Until the first shoots appeared after planting in the open field, the care of parsley is as follows: watering and loosening. Loosening is necessary in order to ensure the access of oxygen to the roots of plants. Next, it will be necessary to thin out the emerged shoots. If plants are grown to produce greens, the soil must be wet so that the roots receive the required amount of moisture. If parsley is grown for drying - two weeks before the crop is cut, watering should be stopped. Harvesting greens can be done until late autumn, almost to frost. Fans eat fresh greens, in the winter they grow plants at home, on the windowsill. Possible all winter landing and care. To do this in the seedling box to prepare the soil from the subsoil biohumus, coconut fiber and the lower drainage layer. It is possible to prepare seeds for cultivation, as well as for sowing in open ground. Soak for two days in water, changing periodically, then for a day in a growth stimulator. Plant swollen seeds to a depth of 1 centimeter, sprinkle with soil on top, remove to a dark place. For the best germination of seeds, wrap the box with a film before germination. Do not forget to air 2 times a day. As soon as sprouts appear, put the box on the windowsill and thin the plants. Caring for parsley is simple: highlight the plants and maintain a temperature of about 20 degrees.
All about parsley
Parsley The scientific name of parsley gardening "Petroselinum Crispum" comes from the Greek phrase "petros" - "rock, stone" (originally from the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean) and "selinum" - so the ancient Greeks called celery, the head of the family to which parsley belongs. The second word "Crispum" in translation into Russian means "curly." Since this plant was used for making wreaths, according to a different version, "selinon" is a "wreath".
Let's take a closer look at this seemingly familiar plant. We remind you that in addition to parsley, the family of celery (umbrella) includes many others, including aromatic spicy cultures. Some of them are poisonous. For example, speckled hemlock (he was poisoned by the ancient Roman philosopher Socrates, sentenced to death). Dangerous to the lives of animals and people is a close relative of parsley garden (curly) parsley dog (also called kororish). This is an annual plant with white flowers, gathered in umbrellas, growing throughout the country from housing, in gardens and vegetable gardens. Unlike parsley curly, its burning, glossy leaves are odorless. And here is another deadly plant - poisonous milestones (or hemlock). It has a sweet and tasty root, it smells like parsley and celery. So be careful and do not confuse these plants.
Wild parsley is found in the Eastern Mediterranean. Cultivars are cultivated and are popular in almost all European and other countries. In Russia, this aromatic spice plant has been known since the 15th century, it was grown in gardens and kitchen gardens called “petrosilovy grass” (by the way, it contains the substance petrosilan). Currently, two forms are cultivated - root parsley and leaf. Both are cultivated in a biennial culture. In the first year after sowing, a rosette of leaves and a rhizome are formed. In parsley leaf it is thin, strongly branching. At the root - conical or spindle-shaped, like a carrot root in a yellowish-white color. Depending on the variety, it can be long (grows better on light soils) or thick (prefers loamy areas). Parsley leaves are pinnate, shiny, curly or smooth, with the latter being considered more fragrant.
The following summer, plants form a tall (up to 150 cm) stem. In late June-early July, 10–20-rayed umbrellas with small greenish-yellow bisexual or only female flowers are revealed on it. In July - September, fruits are tied with a bitter taste and a strong smell. Unlike carrot seeds, they are more rounded and do not have bristles, and easily ripen when ripe. In the second year of cultivation, parsley is more demanding on heat than carrots; therefore, it is more difficult to engage in seed production.
Characteristics, beneficial properties and contraindications
Parsley is a biennial plant belonging to the celery family, that is, it sprouts it produces and gives seeds in the second year. Culture is appreciated for the following characteristics:
- cold resistance, it winter well in open ground,
- wide area of growth,
- it is a source of vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B12,
- herbalists use it as a remedy,
- as a seasoning it is popular in almost all cuisines of the world.
In folk medicine for the treatment and prevention of various diseases use all parts of the plant - leaves, seeds, roots - in the form of decoctions, tinctures, lotions, lotions.
Parsley relieves inflammation in the body, strengthens eyesight, normalizes the activity of the digestive system, restores metabolism, improves urinary and endocrine systems.
She also found wide application in cosmetology, because, as is well known, who ate parsley, he looked younger. It maintains tone, helps fight fatigue, has a rejuvenating effect. Juice of parsley whiten the skin and teeth, restore health to the hair.
Despite the unique composition and benefits, the culture has contraindications. It should not be taken in large quantities in pregnant women, people with kidney disease, anemia and low blood pressure.
Varieties and varieties
This variety of parsley is grown for its aromatic and tender greens. Popular varieties:
- “Ordinary leaf” - forms a large outlet with a large number of dark green leaves (30–100 pieces), suitable for sowing before winter.
- "Breeze" - frost-resistant variety. Greens cut off after 80 days after germination. The socket grows to a height of 75 cm.
- "Bogatyr" - shade-tolerant variety with a late collection of greenery. After cutting quickly increases new.
- "Astra" - an early variety with curled leaves. Green mass is actively growing after cutting. Seeds can be sown before winter.
- "Esmeralda" - curly-leaved variety with an average period of maturity, forms a rosette with leaves on short petioles.
In this species, root crops and tops are used as food. She has not so many leaves, they are more rigid and less fragrant than green varieties of leaf varieties.
With frequent tearing of the leaves at the root of the parsley root stops growing. He remains frail and petty.
- "Bordovik" - late-ripening variety with a cylindrical white root. In the outlet 28-30 dark green frosted leaves.
- "Sugar" - early variety. The cone-shaped root crop is greyish-white in color and is ready to eat in 95–100 days after the first shoots. In the outlet there are 20-40 leaves. Not suitable for long storage.
- "Yield" - mid-season variety, ripeness occurs after 130 days. In a leafy rosette outlet of 11–20 leaves. Root length - 20 cm, has good keeping quality.
What to plant before and after parsley
To obtain a good harvest and to reduce the risk of attack of pests and the development of diseases on parsley, it is necessary to observe crop rotation. The landing site is changed every 3-4 years. The best predecessors for it will be cucumbers and other members of the pumpkin family, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, white cabbage.
After parsley, sow legumes, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onions. You can not sow after her culture of the umbrella family - dill, carrots, celery, fennel, coriander, cumin and others. For the same reason, experts advise not to combine planting dill and parsley, it is better to plant them separately from each other.
Sowing and planting rules
Despite the fact that planting and caring for parsley in the open field do not require special agrotechnical measures, sometimes there are incidents in the form of lack of germination or poor seed germination. However, it is worth worrying about this when more than 3 weeks have passed since sowing. This culture itself grows very long.
If you plant dry seeds in the ground, the first seedlings will appear after 2-3 weeks, because they contain a large amount of essential oils that repel water.
How to sow seeds on seedlings
Planting parsley leaves in a seedling way helps to get an early harvest of greenery. Growing the root variety through seedlings is not practiced, as there is a high probability of damaging the root during transplantation.
Soak. Soaking the seeds is necessary to get quick shoots. They will appear a week after sowing. There are several ways. All of them are aimed at leaching of essential oils from the seed coat.
- Seeds are poured with hot water (40–50 ° C) and left to cool. Then they are washed, soaked in fresh water overnight. In the morning they are dried and sown.
- Fill the seed with vodka, incubate for 15–20 minutes. Well washed, dried and planted in the ground.
- Seeds are poured with warm water for 48 hours, water is changed every 4 hours. Then they are immersed in a solution of biostimulant - "Epin", "Zircon", following the instructions on the package. After processing, dried and planted in the ground.
- Seed material is poured with warm water for 3 days, water is changed 1 time per day. Dried, placed on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for 7 days.
Preparation of land and containers. It is convenient to plant seeds for seedlings in purchased black cassettes. They are equipped with a tray and a lid, which allows you to retain moisture for a longer period. Peat tablets and ordinary 0.2 l plastic cups are suitable for this purpose. In the last tanks it is necessary to make drainage holes and provide pallets. Land for seedlings is prepared 1.5 months before sowing. To do this, use a mixture of purchased universal soil and garden land (1: 1). In one bucket of the soil mixture add 2 tablespoons of chalk and superphosphate.
Sowing and subsequent care. When you can sow parsley on the seedlings, depends on climatic conditions. Seeds are sown in February in the southern regions or March in a temperate climate. Filling the containers with soil and watering it well, they make the grooves 5 mm deep and sow the seeds. Then they are covered with earth and covered with plastic or plastic lid.
For seed germination, it is necessary to maintain a temperature of 20–25 ° C. The crops are regularly aired, watered. When the first shoots appear, the lid is removed, the container is moved to a bright place. The best option is the western or southern windowsill.
Young leaves surely cover from direct sunlight. If the plant stands on the north or east window, then it will illuminate the fitolamps. The temperature is reduced to 15–20 ° C. The main care for seedlings is watering. For this purpose, use a spray or make watering at the edges of the tank with a regular spoon. Water is used defended. Pick up plants do not hold.
Terms of transplanting flower beds. In the open ground, seedlings are planted in the spring at the age of 45 days - in April or early May in fertile moist soil. The distance between the sockets make 5–8 cm, between the rows - 25 cm.
Off-site method of sowing in open ground
When planting parsley in open ground, also depends on the climate. In the southern regions, the first sowing is carried out in early March, in the Far East - in the last days of this month. In the Urals, in Siberia and the northern regions, the dates are shifted to the end of April. Leaf culture is sown in spring and summer - in June, July, August.
Planted parsley in July or early August has time to give the first greens, and then leaves before winter and gives the harvest for the next year.
Root parsley must be sown in spring, not later than mid-May, otherwise the root crop will not have time to ripen. In the greenhouse for the early harvest of greenery, parsley is sown in the north at the end of March, and in the southern areas in February.
The choice of location and soil preparation. Culture loves fertile light soil with a neutral environment, moisture and light. Garden beds are prepared for spring sowing in the fall. They dig up and make manure or humus under the leaf culture. Root varieties are planted in the second year after the introduction of manure under its predecessor. In the spring mineral fertilizers are applied to the ground:
- ammonium nitrate - 20 g per 1m²,
- superphosphate - 50 g,
- potassium chloride - 30 g
The site is plentifully watered with warm water and loosen the upper layer. Make the grooves:
- in light soils - 1.5–2 cm,
- in severe - 1–1.5 cm.
Scheme and technology. For planting parsley in the soil seeds are pre-soaked for the rapid emergence of seedlings. They are sown in the prepared grooves. How to sow parsley depends on the type of plant. Leaf planted at a distance of 10–12 cm, curly - with an interval of 8–10 cm.
3-4 seeds are placed in each nest with subsequent thinning. The root crop is planted with an interval of 1-4 cm, laying on one seed. Then the grooves are covered with soil, lightly tamped and watered. The beds are mulched, covered with covering material and removed only when the first shoots appear.
Growing from the root
Parsley reproduces not only seeds, but also root vegetables. Usually, it is grown at home. The root crop is planted in a flower pot, the soil is kept moist. The container with the spine is placed in a bright place. After 1-2 weeks, young stems begin to grow. The first greens are cut in 1.5 months.
Sowing in the winter
It is a frost-resistant plant, therefore gardeners often sow it before winter. The warmer the region, the later the planting is done. If in the northern regions the seeds are planted in October, in the south they are engaged in it in November. When is it best to plant seeds in the fall? Wait until the day temperature is no more than + 2 ° C, and at night below 0 ° C. Seeds are sown in lightly frozen ground, this will prevent their swelling and germination.
In September-October, they dig up a plot, put in potash-phosphate fertilizers at the rate of 30 g per 1 sq. Km. m. Make grooves and cover the beds with polyethylene. Before sowing, the film is removed and dry seeds are placed in the grooves. The depth of their termination is increased by 2 times compared with the spring-summer period. It is 12–20 mm. What to do if frost is not established and the rains began? We cover beds of polyethylene film to prevent wetting of seeds.
For the autumn planting are suitable varieties of root crops - "sugar", "needles", "Russian size", leaf - "esmeralda", "ordinary", "Italian giant".
Until the seedlings appear, the soil is kept wet. Carefully water the beds so as not to deepen the seeds. Shelter is regularly removed and air crops. Weeds are removed in a timely manner. As soon as the first shoots appeared, the upper layer is carefully loosened.
Root parsley is more in need of abundant watering in August, when the root crop begins to ripen. They thin out green culture when three real dissected leaves are formed on it. Root parsley is subjected to this procedure 2 times per season. For the first time, when two true leaves are formed. The distance between the plants should be 3 cm. And then, when 5–6 leaves grow, leave 10 cm between the bushes.
How and when to feed
If the plot is prepared correctly, then regular parsley dressing is not required. It is enough 2 times per season to apply foliar potassium phosphate fertilizers. With nitrogenous need to be careful, because they accumulate in plants. Nitrogen fertilizers are not used for the root variety.
Treatment and prevention of diseases
But it is better not to allow the development of diseases and to observe preventive measures:
- do not forget about crop rotation,
- after harvesting it’s good to dig the ground,
- regularly loosen the ground,
- remove weeds,
- to air the greenhouses.
Pests and control methods
- carrot fly
- carrot listobloshka
- stem nematode.
The leaves of the plant on which the pest has settled, turn yellow, wither, stop growing, are deformed. If there is not much time left before harvesting, then insecticides are not used. Prepare infusions from vegetable raw materials and spray the tops. Infusion from carrot flies and fleas are made from garlic arrows. 200 g of raw materials are crushed and 10 liters of water are poured, 60 g of ground soap are added.
Once the soap is completely dissolved, spray the plants 3 days in a row. From the aphid is effective infusion of onion peel. 200 g of dry raw material is poured with hot water (10 l) and left for 15 hours. Then filter and process the culture. If time allows, the treatment of plants with “Fitoverm”, karbofos, “Fufanon” and “Iskra” is effective.
Terms, methods of harvesting and storage rules
The leaf parsley is cut throughout the growing season. Store it in frozen or dried form. To dry greenery was more fragrant, for several weeks before cutting watering limit. Root crops are dug in the fall before the onset of steady frosts - at the end of October.
By this time, the flesh becomes dense and juicy. Crop harvested on a sunny day. Before this, they cut the tops, leaving petioles no more than 1 cm high. Then the roots are cleaned and dried. Early and mid-season varieties are dried and preserved, late-ripened ones are suitable for long-term storage.
Parsley is an indispensable spice in cooking, cosmetology and traditional medicine. Unpretentiousness of the culture allows you to grow it in adverse climatic conditions. In regions with a short summer, it is better to be safe and always soak the seeds before sowing so that the parsley will quickly sprout. In this case, you will not be left without fragrant spicy greens.
Growing parsley: parsley planting, care in the open field
In the open ground, on the garden, the time to plant parsley, comes in the second half of April. But, if it does not sprout (it happens that you sow, you sow, but it does not sprout), then you can sow several times a season. Parsley, cold-resistant plant and parsley planting temperature +1 ... +5 degrees. It easily withstands freezing.
Days of growing moon for parsley planting in 2016
- when in March you can plant parsley - from 1 to 8 and from 24 to 31 March,
- April planted parsley - April 1 - 6 and April 23 - 30,
- in the planting days for parsley in May - 1 - 5 and 23 - 31 May.
A significant minus of parsley is long sprouting, so if you plant parsley on greens in April, it will be suitable for food in June. Parsley seeds germinate more slowly, so you can soak the seeds before planting.
To speed up the cultivation of parsley in the open field, cover the crops with a covering material. You can even do so. I downloaded it with polyethylene, and then, after the first green shoots appeared, with lutrasil or other woven material. Under polyethylene parsley will rise quickly, and then changing the polyethylene to woven material, you will not need to worry about the shoots burning.
Tips on how to grow parsley root and celery.
Leaf parsley has beautiful leaves that can be used to decorate flower beds and garden design. The leaves are smooth curly, corrugated. The leaf parsley root is thin and strongly branched.
Parsley is an unpretentious spicy herb, but still grows better:
- on a well-lit garden,
- with fertilized, loose soil,
- for the root - with a deep arable layer,
- Do not plant this plant in places where other umbrella crops, such as celery, carrots, dill, cilantro, cumin, have previously grown. Only after 4 years it will be possible to plant parsley after these predecessors, therefore we make a parsley bed with these recommendations taken into account.
How beautiful to plant parsley?
Thanks to its beautiful curly leaves and long, to the very frost, the preservation of bright green parsley can be used as an ornamental plant. It can decorate flowerbeds or plant on the edge of raised beds. Also, the green parsley leaves look beautiful in flowerpots. In addition, the parsley can be cut, and then it grows back and you can collect several harvests of spicy herbs.
Growing parsley from seeds in the open ground
Growing parsley in the open ground from seeds
Before the beginning of the story about the cultivation of parsley from seeds in the open field, let me say a few words about this wonderful plant.
One of the most famous and common on our latitudes of leaf garden crops is parsley. This fragrant herb is included in the recipe of many dishes, greens are served to grilled meat and fish, it is used to decorate ready food, added to sauces, soups, vegetable stews, salads, fillings for pies.
Parsley root gives a special indescribable flavor to the broths, soup, marinades. That is why the majority of gardeners necessarily devote a bed for its cultivation.
Parsley is a natural source of carotene and ascorbic acid, micro- and macroelements, other organic acids and dietary fibers, antioxidants and pectin compounds. The culture is subdivided and root, grown for the production of root crops, and leaf, intended for the consumption of greens in food (ordinary, curly-headed). The greens of the root parsley are coarser in structure than the leaf, besides, it is not recommended to be massively cut to full ripening of the root, since it may not gain the necessary mass.
A bed with a green queen is smashed in a semi-shaded or sunny place. It is advisable to choose the soil for parsley with a normal or slightly elevated level of acidity. The soil under it should have a loose structure and be quite fertile. The best predecessors of parsley from time immemorial are: cabbage, onion, pumpkin, potatoes and tomatoes. Root vegetables such as carrots, beets, and parsley itself are planted after it, no earlier than a few years later.
Land for parsley is prepared in the fall. Organic plots (bird droppings, compost, humus) and mineral fertilizers are applied under deep plowing. In early spring, when plants are most in need of nitrogen. phosphorus and potassium, it is recommended to additionally embed complex mineral compounds, ammonium nitrate, urea or wood ash.
The plant is two years old. Seeds are suitable for planting within two to three years from the date of harvest. In spring and summer, planting material is desirable for the day before sowing soaked in warm water or a weak solution of potassium permanganate (for disinfection).
After soaking the seeds are placed between the wet layers of gauze and waiting for the appearance of white seedlings. This method of germination allows you to get the first shoots in 12-14 days.
How to plant parsley in the open field
If dry planting material is used for sowing, the sprouts will appear a week later than during soaking.
In early spring, even beds are made on the beds, having a depth of up to 2 cm at a distance of about 15 cm from one another. They are powdered with quicklime twice, at quarter-hour intervals. An hour later, they sow parsley seeds, level the soil, and tamp it with light pats. It is advisable to bed the parsley with a thin layer of humus or garden compost. Parsley - culture is cold-resistant, can withstand frost on the ground to -5-10 ° C. The layer of mulch is not only a warming and protection against cooling, but also an additional source of valuable nutrients.
In the summer, gardeners use the conveyor method of sowing parsley when it is sown every two to three weeks. This allows you to constantly have fresh greens to the table and for summer harvesting - from early spring to the first frost on the ground.
Sown parsley (most often the root) and the winter. Dry seeds are sown in dry, frozen ground, after which they spread the ground and insulate the beds with a thick layer of mulch from organic materials. Parsley winters in the ground, and after thawing snow and warming up the soil, it rises one of the first (simultaneously with winter varieties of garlic).
The plant is moisture-loving. Care is a regular watering, thinning, removal of weeds and loosening the soil. For the root parsley August watering is especially important - it is during this period that the plant builds up the root crop and consumes the maximum amount of nutrients from the soil along with moisture.
With a constant cut of parsley for culinary purposes, the thinning of the bushes is obtained naturally. But for root parsley, it is necessary to carry out special thinning measures. For the first time, three weeks after mass shoots, thinning is carried out: the distance between individual plants should remain at least 3 cm. When repeated thinning, which is carried out approximately two to three weeks after the first, the step of planting increases to 10 cm between the roots - such a distance does not interfere with the optimal development of the bushes and increasing the mass of the roots.
Conducting the cultivation of parsley from seeds in the open ground. Pay special attention to the appearance of plants. At the first signs of disease or insect damage, urgent measures should be taken, including the removal of diseased specimens from the garden in order to prevent the death of the entire crop. The main parsley pests: aphids (melons), carrot fly larvae. carrot leaf, stem nematode. Diseases that can affect parsley: white rot, white spot, rust.

When to sow parsley on the garden
Parsley is propagated by seeds. This vegetable has many varieties that differ in the abundance of greenery, the size of the leaves and their shape. Someone prefers parsley curly, while others prefer ordinary flat leaves. Meanwhile, you can sow parsley in several terms. These terms depend on when you want to get greens.
Terms of sowing parsley seeds
So parsley can be sown:
- in early spring - the end of March - April,
- in the summer - the first half of July,
- in winter - in November.
Sowing parsley in early spring
In the spring with the sowing of parsley seeds is better not to tighten. So that the seeds give amicable shoots do not be lazy to soak them for a few days (3-4 days), but rather make pre-sowing preparation. Parsley seeds contain essential oils that inhibit germination. Therefore, water is so necessary during the seeding period. Some of the essential oils can be “washed” from the seeds by soaking, and if this is not possible, then put parsley in the ground early, when the earth is still rich in moisture.
Soaked parsley seeds before sowing in the ground slightly dried and planted on the prepared beds with ribbons with distances of 15-20 cm. The depth of the grooves for sowing is about 1 cm.
If the snow melted early in the spring or you are slightly late in planting, be sure to spill the grooves in the garden well.
When sowing seedlings with parsley, seedlings will appear in about 10-12 days. When planting dry - more than 2 weeks and shoots may be uneven.
To prevent the weeds from chopping up the parsley seedlings, during sowing you can cover the soil between crops with cardboard or special non-woven material.
Sowing parsley in the summer
In the summer, you can sow parsley after harvesting early crops - potatoes, radish. The bed for planting parsley is carefully prepared - dug up, remove weeds, add ash (150-200 g / sq m), finely loosen. If there is hot, dry weather, the bed is watered abundantly and shields are prepared for sun protection (when installing such protective shields, the soil does not dry out so quickly). Watering parsley, during the summer planting, is often carried out in 2-3 days.
Sowing parsley in the fall
Autumn parsley sown late. Such seeding is also called "before the winter." Parsley seeds are sown on the prepared beds when the temperature drops to minus 2 degrees. The date of sowing should be chosen so that the seeds do not have time to pick up and germinate.
Seeds are planted with ribbons in the grooves with a depth of 0.5-1cm. Sprinkled with sand or harvested soil mixture, mulched with peat.
Take into account, parsley seeds during a podzimny landing need to take more by 25%!
Where to sow parsley
For sowing parsley it is better to choose fertilized sunny or semi-dark places. Parsley loves moisture, but you shouldn't plant it in low flooded places. With an abundance of moisture on parsley slugs attack, it is damaged by powdery mildew. On too dry sandy soil, parsley leaves will not be as long and juicy.
Do not skimp on watering the beds with parsley. The more abundant and more even the moisture supply is, the more juicy the leaves will be.
