In the arsenal of a farmer there is a proven, reliable drug - iron sulfate. It is still in demand, despite the emergence of many new chemicals. The reasons for popularity: a wide range of applications, low toxicity, reasonable price. What kind of drug it is, how to dilute it and then treat the garden, we will tell further.

The composition and release form of iron vitriol

Iron sulfate is otherwise called ferrous sulphate. From a chemical point of view, it is a salt, ferrous sulphate. It looks like small crystals (sometimes - powder) of a greenish color with a bluish (turquoise) or yellowish tinge.

Iron sulfate is sold in garden and hardware stores, retail packaging is usually 200 or 250 g. The mass fraction of the beneficial substance (sulfate) - 53% (grade 1) or 47% (grade 2), in terms of pure iron - 20%.

Preparation of working solution (general rules)

An aqueous solution of ferrous sulphate in different concentrations in horticulture is in demand. It is applied using a spray gun, in some cases - with a brush. Prepare it very easy.

Water for breeding is desirable to take soft - rain or snow. The resulting liquid is an antiseptic, has an acid reaction.

Compatibility with other drugs

When mixing sulphate of iron with alkalis (for example, with lime), chemical interaction occurs, and many properties are neutralized and lost. But such mixtures are sometimes used in agriculture as moderate (soft) fungicides.

It is not recommended to combine ferrous sulphate with other fungicides, with malathion-based insecticides (Karbofos, Fufanon, Aliot, Iskra M, Alatar, Inta-CM).

Iron sulfate is compatible with many drugs, fungicides and insecticides.

The solution of ferrous sulfate is prepared in various concentrations (proportion to 10 liters of water):

Concentration of more than 1% is very effective, but it burns greens and is suitable only for plants in the resting stage.

Spheres of application

Blue vitriol helps fight some pests and plant diseases, fungus in homes and cellars. Acts as a fertilizer for chlorosis. Solves the following tasks:

  1. Destruction of lichens and mosses in garden plantings.
  2. Disinfection of wood wounds, hollow.
  3. Suppression of fungal infections in fruit, berry, ornamental and vegetable crops (treatment and prevention). Protection contact, on the surface (without penetration inside the plant).
  4. Decrease in the number of some insects (apple squirrel, pests of grapes).
  5. Reflection of the attack of rodents (efficiency - not 100%).
  6. Filling up the lack of iron in plant nutrition.
  7. Cleaning the walls of fungus, mold in the cellar and in the house. Wood processing.
  8. Disinfection of country toilets.

Consider various methods in more detail.

It is used not only for plants, but also for other purposes, such as disinfecting the toilet

When sealing the hollow

Closing the hollow on the fruit tree allows you to stop the destruction of wood and extend the life of the plant. The operation is carried out at the end of the season, after leaf fall, in stages:

  • cleaning the internal cavity to healthy wood,
  • disinfection with iron vitriol (5 percent), sometimes they recommend a stronger version (10%),
  • after 4 hours - sealing (filling) with cement mortar (cement, sand, lime in a ratio of 2: 6: 1 plus water until creamy thickness),
  • after drying - coating paint on linseed oil.

How to treat wounds in the fall trees

Freezers, burns, mechanical and infectious damage to the bark and wood are treated with ferrous sulfate (5%) after cutting the dead tissue. The optimal time for such events is the first half of summer.

The process of breeding ferrous sulfate for processing crops

Autumn sprinkling in gardening

After leaf fall trees and bushes enter the rest phase. This is the best time for a concentrated strike:

  • for fungal diseases (coccomycosis, cytosporosis, septoria, black cancer, scab, moniliosis, powdery mildew, anthracnose, blotchiness, rust, botrytis, etc.),
  • on mosses and lichens.

Dosage for the garden:

  • pomes rocks (apple, pear, etc.) - 5%.
  • stone fruit (cherry, plum, etc.) and decorative cultures (including roses), berries (raspberry, currant, gooseberry) - 3%.

The treatment is carried out by abundant spraying of trunks and branches, as well as pristvolny circles and soil in the adjacent territory. Approximate consumption - 2 liters per plant. They operate at a positive air temperature (from +5) in calm and clear weather.

Treatment in spring (before bud swelling)

Spring event - analogue of the autumn: same rules (not recommended for roses only). You can not be late with the deadlines: work when setting low positive temperatures (+5 degrees or slightly higher), strictly on sleeping buds. If the currant is already awake, it does not touch.

Such a spraying of apple trees in the spring reduces the number of the harmful insect - the apple leafblock (creeper).

Program for grapes

  1. Cuttings in the fall are disinfected before winter storage (3%).
  2. Sleeping cuttings before spring planting are washed with a solution of ferrous sulfate (1%). The kidneys are “inhibited”, contributing to the growth of the roots.
  3. In autumn, the young vine planted for wintering before the shelter is treated at a concentration of 3%, adult bushes - 5%. Consumption - from 1 to 3 liters per bush. After some time, if the weather is wet, the vines darken - this is a normal reaction.
  4. Work is repeated in the spring, after opening, at air temperature above +4 degrees, before bud break. Sometimes for spring, the concentration is recommended to be weaker - 1%.

Many diseases and pests of vineyards are suppressed - oidium, pillow, mealybug and others. Along the way, the procedure inhibits the opening of the kidneys for 1-2 weeks (sometimes it is useful for avoiding frost).

Special mixture

To combat fungal diseases, a special substance has to be prepared on a green sheet (it has a scientific patent, it has been tested). Mix 50 g of ferrous sulfate, 30 g of urea, 20 g of hydrated lime and 10 liters of water. The prepared liquid is stored no longer than a day. Sprayed:

  • apple, plum, cherry in the stage of bud break,
  • strawberries in spring in the growth phase of young foliage,
  • tomatoes, potatoes during the growing season (less phytophtoras and the Colorado potato beetle).

Additional effects:

  • the acidity of the substance is close to neutral, does not burn,
  • toxicity is minimal
  • components reinforce each other
  • good adhesion, long lasting protection,
  • nutritional value (nitrogen, iron, calcium).

Observed quantitative growth of the crop, improving its quality.

Spraying of iron vitriol can be carried out both in spring and autumn

Fertilizer fruit trees

If there is a shortage of iron, the plants show signs of chlorosis (yellowing, blanching) on young leaves, the old leaf remains green, the flowers become shallow. Apple trees are especially sensitive - they have young shoots. On grassy crops, chlorosis occurs when excessive irrigation of the land with potassium permanganate (it interferes with the absorption of food).

Rescue foliar feeding with a weak solution of ferrous sulfate (up to 0.5%): several times weekly. For prophylaxis the dose is five times less - 10 g (2 tsp) per bucket.

Watering is less effective: in the soil the substance binds in inaccessible forms. Chelate fertilizer is necessary for root feed. It can be made independently: combine 1 liter of water, half a teaspoon of citric acid, a teaspoon of blue vitriol. The mixture is not stored, watered immediately.

  • Early fall, before laying the harvest, the agent (from 1 to 6%) is applied to the surface of basements and cellars by spraying or brushing, then ventilated.
  • Against the house of fungus used strong concentration - 15%.
  • Outdoor garden toilets are sprayed to disinfect and reduce “odor” (5%).
Disinfection of vitriol garden toilet helps reduce unpleasant odor

Precautionary measures

Substance belongs to low-hazard (3rd class). Does not burn, does not explode.

The ingestion of a large amount of the drug causes a general toxic effect, indigestion, irritation of the skin and mucous membranes. Emergency medical assistance is required.

With competent agricultural work there are no problems. Spraying is carried out in calm weather, in protective clothing, in the respirator "Petal", in gloves. It is necessary to avoid settling of particles in the respiratory tract, as well as on the eyes, skin and mucous membranes. In case of contact, wash with water.

The advantages and disadvantages of the drug

Minuses:

  1. Severe restrictions on processing time.
  2. Protective action - no more than a crescent.
  3. Substance is easily washed off by rain.
  4. Does not help against bacterial and viral diseases.
  5. Excessive concentration can destroy (burn) the plant.
  6. Low concentration is useless.

Positive points:

  1. Low cost of the drug.
  2. Long shelf life.
  3. Good efficacy against fungi.
  4. Additional iron feed.
  5. No toxicity (in authorized doses) for plants, humans, or the environment has been identified.

Iron vitriol is deservedly included in the list of sought-after drugs. With proper use, it gives excellent performance in terms of cost / effectiveness, protects planting from diseases and fungi.

Application in gardening

Ferrous sulfate is quite acidic, so it can easily burn the leaves of plants. In this regard, it is advisable to use the drug either before the foliage appears, that is, immediately after the snow melts, or even when the foliage has fallen, that is, in the autumn period. Both the plants themselves and the ground around them are cultivated. Substance is used for the following purposes:

  1. Fight against different types of rot and fungi
  2. Getting rid of diseases such as coccomycosis, anthracnose and the like
  3. Powdery mildew treatment
  4. Healing wounds on fruit trees
  5. With iron deficiency in the earth
  6. Destruction of pests on branches and trunks
  7. Disinfection of cellars, sheds and other outbuildings

Iron vitriol, application in gardening in the spring. In order to process the trees from fungi, a 4% solution should be prepared, and a 6% solution from lichens. The processing of a cellar or other structure is carried out with a ten percent solution, to which you can add liquid clay - this way it will be easier to apply the solution to the surface, in addition, the gaps will automatically be sealed.

Tip: processing should be carried out in dry and windless weather.

Work with iron sulfate

Iron sulphate refers to substances with reduced toxicity, but, despite this fact, it is necessary to observe precautionary measures when working with vitriol. First you need to wear a protective mask and gloves. Clothes, like shoes, should be closed, you should wear a scarf, a hat, etc. on your head. In case of contact with skin, especially mucous membranes, allergic reactions, irritation, itching are possible. Therefore, it is necessary to immediately wash the skin on which the drug fell, running water. In severe cases, be sure to go to the clinic. In any case, after working with the drug, you need to thoroughly wash your face and hands.

This tool should not be mixed with lime, karbofos and substances that are unstable to alkalis.

Board: vitriol can be used as part of a solution that does not contain lime, for protective whitewashing of fruit trees. Composition for whitewash, which does not contain lime, can be purchased in the store for gardeners.

You should know about the disadvantages of iron sulfate. Firstly, it is ineffective against bacterial infections. Secondly, it practically does not penetrate into the bark tissue, and thirdly, it causes foliage burns.

Fertilizer application

Many gardeners notice that sometimes the branches of trees or bushes die off for no apparent reason, the leaves turn yellow, the flowers are not bright enough. All these signs can signal that plants do not get the iron they need. In this case, apply a solution of iron sulfate for watering, or diluted with manure (no more than one hundred grams per manure bucket), and make the resulting composition in the ground. The best time for this is spring..

When the frost has passed and a constant outdoor temperature of about ten degrees has been established, it is time to treat the apple trees with a three percent solution of ferrous sulfate. Processing will help get rid of rot and fungi, and the tree itself will be sated with iron. As a result, tree growth will be stimulated. The apple tree will begin to intensively absorb carbon dioxide, as a result of which chlorophyll will be produced - a necessary substance for plants.

Vineyards

Use in viticulture. As in the case of other horticultural crops, when used in viticulture, ferrous sulfate is used in the absence of foliage on the vines, for example, in spring. One treatment per season is enough. Apply a solution of ferrous sulfate to spraying vines. When spraying on them, a thin film seems to form, which will protect against pests, diseases, and frost. It should be borne in mind that the treated vines of grapes will turn green two weeks later untreated. Advice: young vines are treated with a one-percent solution, while for more adults a three percent solution is suitable.

Currant bushes, like any other berry bushes, love timely care, and, in case of due attention, will give the gardener a rich berry harvest. After the snow has melted, you can prune frozen or dry branches, and after that you can fertilize the currant with a solution of vitriol with compost or manure (the concentration is standard - not more than one hundred grams per bucket of organic fertilizer). Before the leaves appear, currant branches should be sprayed with a 3% solution of blue vitriol, which will protect it from fungus, rot, insects and larvae.

Strawberry - a capricious plant, requires frequent and thorough care. What helps iron sulphate? Keep in mind that strawberries are extremely susceptible to diseases such as:

  1. Gray and late blight rot
  2. Dew (powdery)
  3. Late blight

Treatment of vitriol will help prevent these troubles. When the harvest is collected, you should feed the bushes with a solution of ferrous sulfate with manure, and then spray them with a two percent solution of the drug.

Tomato seedling prone to diseases like chlorosis. At the same time, young leaves will turn yellow and dry completely, and yellowish spots will appear on more adult ones. Cure the disease in the following way. First you need to prepare components such as: water (one liter), tablets of ascorbic acid (twenty grams), iron sulfate (ten grams). Next, a solution is prepared: cold water is poured into a container (for example, an enamel basin), tablets and vitriol are added to it, everything is thoroughly mixed. The resulting solution is sprayed with tomato bushes.

Tip: any prepared solution of ferrous sulfate should be used immediately after preparation, as the properties of the substance decrease with time.

Conclusion

Despite the huge range of ready-made fertilizers and various drugs that can be purchased in numerous stores for gardeners, use of ferrous sulfate is still justifiedbecause this drug is inexpensive, affordable, little toxic, easy to use, and the scope of application in gardening, as well as the results of use, are very significant.

What is iron sulfate?

It is ferrous sulphate obtained from the reaction between bivalent iron and sulfuric acid. The crystals have a bluish-green hue, which distinguishes the drug from copper sulfate, which has a pronounced blue color.

The fungicide is highly soluble in water and in this form is used for spraying plants. For different types of treatment used a different concentration of the drug.

You should know! The drug is a fungicide of contact action. That is, it does not penetrate into the intercellular structure of plants and does not accumulate in them. Therefore, does not bear any harm to humans.

The purpose of ferrous sulfate

In garden plots, iron sulfate is used for such purposes:

  1. For the treatment of fungal diseases of shrubs and trees: scab, coccomycosis, powdery mildew, cluster sporosis, etc.
  2. For the treatment of vines from anthracnose, gray rot, oidium.
  3. For disinfection of cuts and wounds on tree branches.
  4. To combat spotting on roses.
  5. As a means to eliminate moss and lichen.
  6. For the destruction of harmful insects.
  7. As a tool for processing vegetable stores, cellars, basements, wooden structures in order to get rid of mold and mildew.
  8. As a fertilizer in the garden.

How to dilute the drug?

To ensure the proper quality of the solution, it is necessary to properly prepare it.

Pay attention to the following nuances:

  1. The container in which the technical vitriol will be diluted must be either glass or plastic. It is not allowed to prepare the solution in a metal dish.
  2. The tare should be kept clean. Если в емкости ранее находилось какое-то химическое вещество, то трудно предугадать реакцию сульфата железа с остатками данного вещества.
  3. Размешивать раствор следует тщательно, не спеша. After mixing it initially, it is better to let the solution brew a little, and then mix it again. In this case, more ferrous sulfate will transfer to the water.

Consider the use of iron sulfate in relation to specific situations:

Against pests

Iron vitriol actively exhibits its insecticidal properties in the fight against crawling insect pests and their larvae. For this purpose, spraying of trees is done in the spring, before bud break.

Also, near-barrel circles are processed. For spraying use a solution in a concentration of 5%. That is, in a 10 l bucket, you need to pour 500 g of sulphate. Processing is carried out 2 times a year: in the fall, after leaf fall, and also in the spring, while the buds are not awake.

Important! Keep in mind that young trees have thinner bark. It is enough to process them only 1 time, in the spring.

Fight against mosses and lichens

Often, the garden suffers from lichens and mosses in the trees. Especially often they are formed on old trees and bushes, as a result of which the latter dry and disappear.

Iron sulfate copes with this problem. Shrubs and stone fruit trees are treated with a solution with a concentration of 3% sulfate. Seed trees require a high concentration of the drug - 5%.

Spraying of trees and bushes is done twice, with a break between approaches for 2 weeks, in autumn or spring. After two treatments, lichens and mosses disappear from the branches.

Also, you can prepare a special whitewash composition, which covers the affected places. To do this, take an extract from the ash and add 5% of vitriol.

This composition to whitewash damaged branches. The ash hood is prepared in the following way. 1 cup of sifted ash is filled with 3 liters of boiling water and infused for 3 days. Then the volume is brought to 10 liters.

Against chlorosis

Signs of chlorosis are pale leaves of plants, poorly developed shoots, underdeveloped fruits. Particularly prone to this disease are apples, plums and cherries.

This disease occurs when there is a lack of iron in the soil. Iron sulfate allows you to quickly fill the lack of iron. To do this, it is recommended to spray the plants with a low-concentration preparation in order not to burn the leaves.

50 g of vitriol is added to 10 liters of water. Processing plants is carried out several times, every 5-6 days. A sign of cure is the return to the leaves of normal green color.

If chlorosis annoys regularly, it is possible to carry out prophylactic sulfate treatments, reducing the concentration of the fungicide to 10 g per 10 l of water. Prevention is sufficient to carry out weekly.

Foliar processing

It is recommended to treat the grapevine with a solution of ferrous sulfate of varying concentration, which depends on the season and the type of disease of the grapes:

  1. In early spring, a week after removing the cover from the vine, the instruction prescribes the use of a solution of 0.5-1%.
  2. For the treatment of chlorosis, a 0.05% solution is used.
  3. To get rid of oidium, mildew, blotches and pests, a solution of 4-5% is prepared (according to the bare vine).
  4. Autumn processing before the shelter for the winter involves spraying the vitriol in a dosage of 3-5%.

Please note that a lower concentration of the drug is applied in the spring.

You should know! Processing the vine with iron sulfate in early spring delays bud break for about a week, which allows the grapes to avoid damage to young shoots as a result of spring frosts.

Root dressing

In addition to spraying, iron sulfate is used for application under grape bushes. It is best to combine this process with watering. If the vine gives a small increase, the leaves are pale, and the clusters ripen with a delay or do not have time to ripen at all, then the grapes obviously lack iron.

Alkaline soils are especially poor in iron. If you notice such signs on your grape bushes, add a little sulphate of iron to the water for irrigation. It is not necessary to plant a lot of vitriol in water. Enough in 10 liters of water, add 10-15 g of the drug.

Grape seedlings processing

Experienced winegrowers have found an effective way to improve the rooting of the vine. They treat the upper parts of the chubuk or young saplings with a weak (0.5%) solution of iron sulphate.

This delays the budding of the buds, while accelerated rooting takes place in the lower part of the seedling. Such plants grow stronger and more viable.

Spraying berry bushes and trees

In the spring, before the beginning of the growing season, and also in the autumn, after the leaf fall, plants are treated with a solution of vitriol at a concentration of 3%.

Processing of currants, gooseberries, felt cherries, as well as other shrubs and trees along the green cone is allowed, but the concentration of the solution should be 0.1-1%.

Such a solution is safe for leaves and young shoots. With higher concentrations, foxes and shoots can get burned.

Handling cuts and wounds on tree branches

Infected wounds and cuts of trees often cause infectious agents, causing wood damage. Infection can lead to serious disease of the tree and even to its death.

Having treated the wounds with iron sulfate, we get rid of the infections already existing there and prevent new infections of the trees. For processing should prepare a concentrated solution of vitriol. At 10 water you need to put 100 g of iron sulfate. This solution is treated damage.

Processing basements and vegetable stores

Iron sulfate effectively resists rotting processes and mold.

This happens due to the fact that the solution forms on the treated surface a film that deprives the fungi of oxygen. In such an environment, pathogenic microflora is not viable.

Iron sulphate solution of 10% concentration processes the walls of cellars, vegetable stores, wooden fencing of beds, wooden arbors, greenhouses and other structures on the site.

Main disadvantages

Despite the mass of positive properties, this fungicide has several drawbacks, which are extremely important for a gardener to:

  1. The drug is rapidly oxidized in air, losing its beneficial properties. It retains its effectiveness after application for 10-14 days.
  2. Iron sulfate is hygroscopic. It is easily absorbed by moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly closed container.
  3. A drug concentration of less than 1% is considered ineffective for treating plants.
  4. At a concentration of more than 1%, the preparation can leave burns on green leaves and shoots due to strong acidity, therefore, spraying is performed only after leaf fall or in early spring, before bud break.
  5. Iron sulfate solution will not help in the fight against diseases caused by bacteria.

Types of chemicals

Now consider all the positive and negative characteristics of chemicals for pest control in the garden.

Spring processing of gardens with chemicals gives an excellent result. These substances can deal not only with pests, but also with diseases and weeds.

Preparations for spring garden processing:

  • herbicides,
  • insecticides,
  • fungicides,
  • zoocides, etc.

Herbicides are used in weed control.

Insecticides are used to kill harmful insects.

Fungicides help fight the spread and elimination of pathogenic fungi.

Zoocides are used in the fight against warm-blooded harmful animals.

Unfortunately, most pesticides are poisons. They poison the body of the pest. Pesticides also include sterilizers and growth inhibitors. Therefore, spring processing of gardens must necessarily be carried out taking into account all the recommendations.

Action of chemicals

Modern drugs that are aimed at pest control, act fairly quickly. Many can see the result of the action within an hour after application. This effect may persist for a long time. If your plants are characterized by a massive lesion or have a neglected stage of the disease, then the pesticides must be alternated in such a way as not to develop an addiction in insects.

After a certain period of time (for each drug it has its own), the chemicals decompose. This period lasts from several days to three weeks. Due to this effect of drugs, we can safely say that the treatment of trees in early spring or in the autumn after harvest cannot do any harm to humans.

Today the market has a large number of drugs that are characterized by a combined effect. They allow you to quickly and effectively cope with a variety of pests. This eliminates the need for re-treatment of plants.

Urea Use in Horticulture

Of course, do not forget about fertilizer. One of the most popular and highly effective drugs is carbamide (urea). This fertilizer is in granules, which contains nitrogen in its digestible form (an essential element for the development, growth and nutrition of the plant).

Urea is a fertilizer that is characterized by the maximum concentration of nitrogen. Under the action of enzymes of soil bacteria, this fertilizer is converted to ammonium carbonate. This process takes about 3 days. It is also used for fertilizing crops. Can be used in greenhouses.

Ammonium carbonate may partially decompose in air. Its part is also lost in the form of ammonia gas. Therefore, the introduction of urea into the soil in a superficial way can lead to a significant loss of nitrogen. Also consider the type of soil. After all, on alkaline and neutral soils, such a loss will be maximum.

Gardeners error

Unfortunately, many amateur gardeners make the mistake of adding lime to the iron sulfate. This can lead to negative consequences for plants. And the thing is that inexperienced gardeners are not attentively acquainted with information, because lime can only be added to copper sulphate, not iron.

Irreplaceable fertilizer

Iron sulfate is a unique fertilizer that allows you to enrich the plant with iron in an easily accessible form. What is this element for? The fact is that iron plays an important role in the respiratory system of the plant.

Iron deficiency is often found in fruit trees: pears, apples, peaches, plums. Also recommend spraying the raspberry and rose bushes. In addition, vegetable crops also need iron (cabbage, potatoes, tomato).

The lack of this element leads to the appearance of chlorosis in various cultures. It provokes weak growth of young shoots, leaf underdevelopment and minimal fruiting. Therefore, spring chemical treatments in the garden are a must.

Advantages processing iron sulphate

As mentioned earlier, each plant requires care and attention. It is imperative that the plant be protected in time from various pests, enriched with useful elements, etc. Iron vitriol belongs to such substances. What does he provide?

  • Food plants. Iron sulfate affects the formation of chlorophyll in foliage in flower and fruit crops. Flowers and leaves get improved color.
  • Combating pests, mosses, lichens, fungal spores.
  • Disinfection. This tool copes with the elimination of unpleasant odors from summer toilets, cesspools.

Features of the use of iron vitriol

Spring processing of the garden from pests is necessary for every plant. Iron vitriol is used as a micronutrient. This process is carried out by spraying for treetops or by sprinkling for foliar feeding.

Spring processing of gardens requires the preparation of a solution. It is made independently. To do this, on 10 liters of water should be prepared 5-10 g of the drug. Spraying should be carried out in early spring, even before bud break. The procedure should be repeated after 15 days.

One can also get rid of the house fungus of the tree and the walls with the help of the solution of ferrous sulfate: for 10 liters of water 1.5 kg of the preparation

To whitewash the walls in the basement, use a solution: for 10 liters of water, 400 g of the preparation.

Features of the use of chemicals

Spring garden processing chemicals hides in itself and danger. Therefore, you should definitely read the instructions. After all, it is necessary to observe not only the processing time, but also the dosage. Often this information is provided by the manufacturer on the packaging. High concentration of the drug can adversely affect plants. Possible burns of buds or leaves, death of pistils, reduced viability of pollen. This negatively affects the quantity and quality of the crop. Unfortunately, the uncontrolled and inappropriate use of chemicals detrimental effect on the state of the environment, which leads to a violation of the natural balance.

Improper use of chemicals can adversely affect human health. It can also lead not only to the disease of wild animals and birds, but also to their death. In addition, insects and fish also suffer from this.

As for a person, pesticides can enter his body not only through the gastrointestinal tract, but also through the respiratory organs and skin. Therefore, special attention should be paid to self-protection when treating plants with various preparations. Spring garden gardening also requires some security features.

Modern gardening can not normally exist without the use of various chemicals. They help to get rid of pests, feed the plants with essential trace elements. Their correct use will help to get safe for health, high-quality and bountiful harvest.

Pest Control

Blue vitriol is destructive for many insects and their larvae, as well as eggs laid under the bark of trees. Early in the spring, when the kidneys have not yet woken up, you need to carry out the first treatment.

Caterpillars on a flowering tree

To do this, prepare a 5% solution (500 g of the substance is diluted in 10 liters of water) and sprayed abundantly or poured over the plants. You can also process fruit trees and shrubs in late autumn, after the leaf fall.

This drug is very effective against the apple tree plant - the enemy of most fruit trees. With early spring spraying with a 3% solution (300 g of the drug per 10 liters of water) almost half of the eggs laid by the females die. It is necessary to spray both the trunks and branches of the tree, and the soil under it.

When processing it is important to correctly calculate the time

When processing it is important to correctly calculate the time. Usually they are carried out in the middle of April - at this time the insects have already woken up and laid eggs, and the buds on the trees have not yet begun to blossom. It is important to understand that iron sulfate can not destroy absolutely all pests, so you should not limit yourself to its use.

Application to combat mushroom diseases

Iron sulfate is able to cope with many fungal infections of plants. It acts as a fungicide of contact action (that is, as a substance that can not penetrate into the cells and the space between them), therefore, rather quickly (within 2 weeks) it is washed away by rain. To get rid of fungal diseases, it is enough to use a 3% solution of ferrous sulfate.

Mushroom disease of grapes (mildew)

It must be remembered that the surface treatment with this solution cannot completely destroy the fungus, since its spores are able to remain in hard-to-reach places. So for a more reliable result, it is better to handle the means containing copper. You can alternate the use of these drugs: in the spring to spray with blue vitriol, and in the fall to process iron. It should also be borne in mind that ferrous sulfate is not able to protect your plants from bacterial infections.

Iron sulfate with non-infectious chlorosis

Sometimes plants can suffer from a lack of iron in the soil or an inability to absorb it. Arises non-infectious chlorosiswhich is expressed in the yellowing of the leaves and the general weakening of the plants.

Hydrangea chlorosis

Iron sulfate will help to cope with this disease. To do this, prepare a solution at the rate of 30-50 g of the drug per 10 l of water and spray the plants several times in 5-6 days until the green color is completely restored. For prophylactic purposes, use 10 g per 10 liters of water.

In the next video you will see how to prepare a solution and treat the plants if they are sick with chlorosis.

Ferrous sulfate fertilizer

Using iron vitriol, you can make yourself a very valuable fertilizer - iron chelate. This microfertilizer containing ferrous iron - that is, iron in the form most accessible to plant cells. Iron chelate is used to treat and prevent non-infectious chlorosis.

To prepare, dilute 5 g of citric acid in 2 liters of water, dissolve 8 g of ferrous sulfate in the same volume of warm water and slowly pour in, continuously stirring, in the prepared citric acid solution. Add here another 1 liter of water.

Use the self-made iron chelate solution immediately.

At the exit we get 5 liters of a 0.5% clear orange solution. Применяют его немедленно, не разбавляя. Это очень эффективное удобрение для многих садовых и огородных культур.

Железный купорос уничтожит лишайники

Случается, на коре старых деревьев поселяются лишайники. И здесь на помощь придёт железный купорос. For the treatment of stone trees (for example, cherries, plums) and berry bushes a 3% solution (300 g of substance per 10 liters of water) is suitable. For spraying pome fruit (apples, pears) - 5% solution (500 g of the drug per 10 liters of water). If you do this treatment in the spring, then during the summer the lichens will come off themselves, and the bark will become clean and smooth.

Apple tree covered with lichen

If there are wounds and cracks on the tree trunk, it is useful to treat them with a 1% solution (100 g of vitriol per 10 liters of water) - this will serve as a good disinfection.

More about the benefits of ferrous sulfate

When spraying plants with iron vitriol (3-4% solution), budding in the early spring is delayed by almost a week, which will help grapes and many other bushes to endure spring freeze painlessly.

To destroy the tree fungus (the so-called brownie) it is necessary to dilute 1.5 kg of ferrous sulfate in 10 liters of water. And for surface treatment of the walls of the basements and cellars prepare a weak solution - 60 g of the drug per 1 liter of water.

The walls of the cellar is useful to handle iron sulphate

Application of the solution

If you want to rid your trees of mosses and lichens, it will be enough to treat them in early spring with a solution of ferrous sulfate, the concentration of which should be 3-5% (for stone fruit 3%, for pome fruit 5%). After spring processing until summer, the moss and lichen will disappear, the trees will become healthier and more alive. As for the harvest, it will please you next year. If there are old trees in the garden, then an autumn processing of trees with iron sulfate will be required. This will prepare them for the cold weather and generally fix the result.

One of the mistakes is the addition of lime to the cooking process. In fact, lime is added, but only in bluestone. A mixture of copper sulfate and lime is used in the preparation of Bordeaux mixture, which can cause confusion. Basically, this mistake is made by inexperienced gardeners, which has a negative impact on all trees in the garden.

In order to use green iron in the garden correctly, it is necessary to take into account the nature of the disease of each tree individually. So, if the trees are sick with apple honey, then 5% solution is not suitable. It is necessary to use 3% solution. It is necessary to take into account the fact that the composition must be used until the buds swell so as not to cause any harm to future fruits. You need to understand that such a spraying does not allow to get rid of 100% of pests.

In order to completely overcome this or that disease, it will be necessary to use special means. These include tobacco-shag solution. But, if we again think of the apple tree barnacle, then it is rather difficult to get rid of it and it will most likely not be possible to do it within one year. However, if using ferrous sulfate you get rid of this insect by at least 50%, it will already be a great benefit for the garden. Treating trees with the considered tool is between the 10th and 20th of April, more specific terms depend on many factors (weather conditions, region, etc.).

How to dilute the substance

An important point in the preparation of the solution is to respect the concentration. So how do you dissolve iron sulfate to handle trees? There is no one instruction for the preparation of a substance. If you listen to the views of experienced gardeners, the concentrations differ depending on the cultivated plantings. The main recommendations are:

  1. Fruit stone fruits, which include plum, cherry, cherry, apricot, peach, treated with 3% solution. For its preparation dissolve 300 g of powder in 10 l of water. In the autumn, the treatment should be carried out before the cold comes, i.e. trunk and branches will be bare.
  2. Fruit pome crops (pear, apple, grapes) are sprayed with a 4% solution. Prepare it in the same way, only 10 liters of diluted 400 g of the substance.
  3. The cultures listed above can be treated with a solution and a greater concentration - 5-6%. To do this, dilute 500-600 g per 10 l of water. Concentration depends on the goals pursued by the gardener and the time of year.

In order to combat insect pests, fruit trees are treated with iron sulfate at a concentration of 5% in late autumn. Thus, it will be possible to get rid of pests that hibernate in the bark of trees. For preventive purposes, vitriol is used in the autumn at a concentration of 1%, i.e. diluted with 100 g per 10 liters of water.

In the process of preparation and processing of the garden, it is important to adhere to certain rules for working with the substance, because it refers to unsafe:

  1. You should carefully read the instructions and do not exceed the recommended concentration. So, for spring (before buds bloom) or autumn pores (after falling leaves), the solution should be 5-7%. During the growing season resorted to spraying a lower concentration of 0.1-1%.
  2. Iron vitriol is diluted in plastic or glassware.
  3. It is necessary to observe safety rules, protect hands, eyes and respiratory organs.
  4. In case of contact with the vitriol in the eyes, immediately rinse them under running water.

If in the spring the garden iron grading is carried out earlier, then simply there will be no effect, because the insects will not wake up after winter. If the event is late, then the tree itself and the future harvest can be harmed.

Iron sulfate - what is it?

Iron sulfate has another chemical name - ferrous sulfate. It is quite popular with gardeners and has been used in gardening for many years. Externally, this tool looks like a crystalline powder, painted in a pale green color. The concentration of the main active component is within 53 percent.

This tool is essentially a salt formed by the interaction of bivalent iron and sulfuric acid. This substance is a crystalline hydrate, and all because each of its molecules combines with 7 molecules of water.

What is it used for?

This tool is a favorite with gardeners with experience. And the iron vitriol owes its popularity to the fact that its operation is quite broad, and also it has a low price.

In gardening, this drug is used for the following purposes:

  1. Spring and autumn whitewashing the surface of tree trunks growing in the garden.
  2. To get rid of lichen, moss and other diseases caused by fungus.
  3. For processing grapes for preventive purposes from a variety of diseases.
  4. To eliminate the black spot of roses.
  5. To strengthen trees that are already quite old.
  6. For the destruction of harmful insects.
  7. They can heal the wounds that are available on the trunks of fruit garden crops.
  8. In order to saturate the soil with iron.

This tool is used not only in gardening, so it can cope with the fungus that exists on the surface of the walls of a house or a room where vegetables are stored.

Advantages and disadvantages

This tool, like all the others, has its advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits:

  • different widespread
  • low cost
  • for a person is of low risk when exposed to external influences, as it is low toxic (if a highly concentrated product gets on the mucous membranes or skin, then it should just be washed off with a stream of water, and then there will be no damage)
  • highly effective in fighting fungal diseases
  • different external influence, inside the plant does not fall.

The disadvantages include:

  • in the fight against insects is ineffective (for their complete elimination will need additional drugs),
  • it can be used only at the beginning of the spring period (before the buds are opened) and after the leaves have fallen off, the fact is that such a drug can damage the leaf plates and young shoots,
  • it is quickly washed off by rain, after spraying it begins to act after a couple of hours, however, the maximum effect is achieved only after 24 hours, so if it is raining outside, then you will have to spray the tree several times.

If you handle the garden with iron sulfate incorrectly, then this will have a very negative impact on his condition. In this regard, it is very important to carefully read the instructions attached to the tool before processing.

Many gardeners will agree that it is quite difficult to grow a garden without regularly treating trees with special substances that protect against parasites and diseases. One of such means is iron vitriol, which consists of insecticides, fungicides and micronutrients. If used correctly, you can achieve good results and a rich harvest. ABOUTgardening iron sulphate - guarantee of healthy trees. How to use it and in what doses?

Processing garden iron sulphate: use

Iron sulfate is used for:

  • The destruction of insects and parasites.
  • Protection and treatment of diseases: fungus, powdery mildew, gray mold, etc.
  • Elimination of moss, lichen.
  • Disinfect a plant when a wound or hollow occurs.
  • The treatment of chlorosis and other diseases.

Iron sulfate has a positive effect on the fertility of the plant, its yield and health. With its help, it is possible to recover the iron needed for the trees. Pears, apples and plums are the most sensitive to iron deficiency, because without it no oxidative processes of enzymes, so necessary for normal life activity, take place. For example, the amount of iron in an apple directly affects the condition of the tree, its shoots, the quality of the crop and its taste.

Iron vitriol against fungi and pests

If the purpose of treatment of iron sulfate is the fight against parasites, then it is necessary to use the drug per 500 g per 10 liters of water. Thoroughly mix everything until the substance is completely dissolved and begin actively spraying the trees before the onset of spring and bud swelling. This will protect the plant from attack by pests that will be very active after hibernation. Once again processing is carried out in the deep autumn, in October.

In order to prevent the appearance of lichens and mosses appearing on the crown of old trees, vitriol spraying is carried out in early spring or in autumn, after the tree has thrown off the foliage. Regarding the frequency of processing, it will be enough several times in a couple of weeks.
Iron sulfate is an indispensable tool in the fight against chlorosis, which occurs as a result of iron deficiency in fertilizer or soil. To prepare the composition, you need to take 100 g of powder and stir it in 10 liters of water. Spraying is carried out until the leaves of the plant are fully restored.

When working with iron sulphate, it is important to observe precautions, because this drug is classified as unsafe. So he did not bring harm, you should follow these rules:

1. Carefully read the instructions and follow it exactly. You should not increase the dose or use less water - this can cause irreparable harm to the plant.
2. To dissolve the vitriol use only glass or plastic dishes.
3. All procedures should be carried out only with gloves.
4. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse them thoroughly.

Treating trees at their summer cottage is important and does not tolerate delay, so using the right substance can achieve positive results.

Iron vitriol in the garden

Iron sulfate is a fungicide of contact action. This means that when spraying it does not penetrate inside, it remains on the surface of the plant. The drug is used in the form of aqueous solutions, which are distributed by spraying. It solves several problems at the same time:

  • renders prevention of the main fungal diseases (scab, powdery mildew, various spots, fruit and gray rot and others),
  • destroys pests,
  • helps to get rid of moss and lichen,
  • disinfects mechanical damage to the cortex,
  • replenishes iron reserves in plants.

Important! Iron sulfate, unlike copper, is not suitable for the preparation of Bordeaux mixture.

When to process?

Treatments with iron sulfate are well tolerated by plants if carried out according to a schedule. Only 2 sprayings per year are allowed, when there are no leaves on the trees yet. In contact with the green part of the drug causes chemical burns.

The first garden treatment is carried out in early spring, immediately after warming. By this time there should be no young leaves or buds in the trees. The drug is used in a low concentration, and the degree of its dilution depends on the state and type of plant.

It is useful to clean the garden of last year’s grass and dry branches before processing the garden - they often turn out to be a place for comfortable wintering of insects and fungus.

Tip! For young trees, a single spraying in early spring will suffice. For an adult garden spend additional autumn processing.

Autumn processing is carried out after harvest and leaf fall. It is necessary for the destruction of fungal microflora and insect pests that can winter in the bark of trees. In the fall, this drug is effective. It will completely destroy the pests, and during the cold period of the year they will not reappear.

Spraying adult fruit trees spend 7% solution of iron sulphate. You can not be afraid to use it in such a concentration - it is harmless to the bark, and before the leaves appear, its action will cease.

Instructions for use

Blue vitriol is small crystals with a characteristic blue tint. Before use, it must be diluted with water in the correct dosage, pour into the spray bottle and distribute over the territory. In addition, there are certain safety rules that must be followed when working.

Preparation for work

The solution of ferrous sulfate helps to get rid of the causative agent of fungal infections. The fungus can be located directly on the plants, and on their dry residues and on the soil surface. Regardless of the time of processing the garden, it is worthwhile to preliminarily carry out its mechanical cleaning in order to destroy the source of infection:

  • remove fallen or last year’s leaves and dry branches,
  • remove dry and damaged shoots on trees and shrubs,
  • dig the soil in pristvolnom circle.

To work with iron sulphate will need a spray. In addition, you need to prepare containers for the preparation of the solution. Pellets are allowed to be diluted in glass or plastic dishes - iron does not react with these substances. After this, containers are not used for storing food and feed.

How to properly dilute

To prepare the solution, it is necessary to measure the required amount of powder, place it in a container and fill it with warm water. Many gardeners recommend first using a small amount of hot water (to better dissolve the crystals), and then bring the liquid to the desired volume. The concentration of the active substance in the solution will differ:

  • for the destruction of mosses and lichens - from 4 to 6%,
  • for the prevention of fungal infection - 3-4%, for adult trees, you can increase the concentration to 5%,
  • for spraying roses, the drug is used carefully, and its concentration should not exceed 0.5%.

Important! Iron sulfate is not suitable for the preparation of mixtures. It is not compatible with lime, insecticide and other substances.

Safety

Iron sulfate refers to substances with a low degree of danger. However, during the preparation of the working solution and spraying the garden, you must follow the safety instructions:

  • prepare working solutions exclusively in glass or plastic containers (metal is not used),
  • Wear thick rubber gloves to protect your hands,
  • Dilution of the drug and spraying is carried out exclusively with a respirator or with a protective bandage.

In case of accidental contact of the solution with the skin, the probability of the formation of chemical burns is low. However, it is worth rinsing the skin under running water and follow its reaction for several hours. Redness may form on the mucous membranes, but it quickly passes if the drug is removed in time with water.

Fruit trees

The fungus on the trees is manifested by the blackening of leaves or fruits, as well as the appearance of stains and formations of various sizes on their surface. The causative agent of fungal diseases becomes especially active with high marshiness of the territory, frequent precipitations and insufficient ventilation. Young trees can be processed from the fungus once a year, in early spring, and for adults you will need 2 planned treatments.

The solution for fruit trees and berry bushes is prepared equally. The only difference is that due to the thick bark of adult fruit trees, you will need to take dry matter in higher concentration. With it, you can get rid of the most common fungal diseases:

  • scab,
  • powdery mildew,
  • fruit rot,
  • black cancer and others.

Allows you to increase the yield from the dacha by 50% in just 2-3 applications

Tip! The effectiveness of the drug against bacterial diseases, as well as parasitic animals and insects, is rather low. For this purpose it is recommended to use other means.

Berry Bushes

Железный купорос используют в том числе для ягодных кустарников. В саду им обрабатывают не только кусты малины или смородины, но также розы и другие кустарники. The drug is effective if it is sprayed twice a year on the territory after pre-cleaning. It acts against a number of diseases, the causative agent of which is a fungus:

  • powdery mildew,
  • anthracnose (often manifested in gooseberry, raspberry, currant),
  • white leaf spot,
  • columnar rust,
  • black and gray rot.

The solution of ferrous sulfate is popular for processing vineyards. It is used in a concentration of 2-3% twice a year. It can be used to cure and prevent such fungal diseases of grapes as Mildew (mildew), powdery mildew, alternariosis, black, white and gray rot.

Processing features

In the year it is necessary to carry out two planned processing. Each of them has its own goals and features. The spraying time depends on the garden wake-up schedule after winter, climatic features, temperature conditions and precipitation. In addition, it is important to take into account the condition of the plants — if they show signs of a fungal infection during a year, additional treatment in high concentrations will be needed.

After warming, the first spraying of fruit trees and shrubs is carried out. The optimal time is before bud break and leaves appear. During this period, the drug can be taken in a lower concentration, if the autumn treatment was carried out according to the schedule. In the fall, the fungus on the trees was destroyed, and during the winter it could not develop.

Important! Spring processing can be considered additional. It allows you to get rid of the residual microflora, as well as the guise of insects, which wintered in the bark of trees.

A few weeks before the frost spend the last year in the processing of the garden. Autumn work includes the digging of soil with the introduction of a reserve of fertilizers, as well as mechanical cleaning and treatment of pests.

The solution can be used in a higher concentration (for adult trees - up to 7-8%), since it will not be able to affect the sensitive leaves and petals of trees. However, it should be understood that the autumn stocks of the fungicide will not act after warming in the spring. It will quickly be washed away by rain and snow, but during frost fungal flora will be inactive.
