Almond three-blade (Prúnus tríloba) - This is a handicraft plant with pink flowers. This plant also has the name of a three-blade luizeania, but popularly it is called Moscow sakura. It attracts the attention of passers-by, and is in the desired list of many gardeners and gardeners. Almond three-lobed Rosenmund is one of the most beautiful garden plants, which is grown exclusively because of its ornamental appearance.
Originally it was opened in China, later brought to England, and only in the twentieth century it fell on the territory of the USSR. In connection with its eastern origin, the plant is called the Chinese terry plum or sakura, because of pink flowers.
It looks like a small tree that can grow up to 3.5 meters, with branches sticking to the side. Almond leaves grow in bunches and have a three-lobed shape.
In the first half of May, almond blossoms for 2 weeks. At this time the bush gets a delicate pink color. After a flowering period, the leaves bloom, and the shrub stops flowering.
The fruit of this plant is not large, rounded and inedible. Most often, three-lobed almonds can be seen in the botanical gardens or among summer residents.

Types and varieties
The main differences between species and varieties of almonds are their shape, height and color.
- Almond Georgian. The plant grows no higher than a meter, the leaves are large, bright pinkish, with a rough, hairy fruit. The flowering period falls on May and is 3 weeks. With ease endures frosts.
- Almond low. This plant loves light, resistant to frost and drought, undemanding to the soil. This almond is common in Siberia. Its main difference is the color of the branches, they are dull-red with narrow leaves. The flowers are light pink. The flowering period is a week.
- Almond ordinary. You can meet in the Caucasus, Iran and Afghanistan. It looks like a big bush or a small tree with branches of red or pinkish color and up to 5 meters high.
- Almond three-bladed or, as it is sometimes said, three-bladed has decorative varieties, namely:
- Captivity - a bush, in height to 2 meters with double flowers of terry flowers.
- Kiev - a small tree with velvet pink flowers. It begins to bloom in late April - early May and is two weeks.
- Tanya - The flowers of this bush have a densely double structure and a diameter of about 3 cm.
- Ruslana - flowers have a corporal shade and a terry look, at the end of flowering they become white.
Three-bladed almond loves sunlight and lack of wind. Regarding the soil, you should choose light, friable, fertile lime. Strictly contraindicated places in the shade, without access to light and damp places. It should be planted at the end of autumn, at the end of leaf fall or with the onset of the warm days of spring.
Such a mixture would be an excellent ground for it: leaf ground + 1/2 of its amount of humus + 1/3 of sand. About 20 cm of crushed stone or broken brick, and 6 cm of sand should be used as drainage. The root neck of a seedling should not be buried during planting, since it must be above ground level. Plants should be seated at a distance of one meter from each other.
Care for a three-blade
As mentioned above, this plant is drought resistant. However, during the flowering period, it requires a copious amount of water. If it is planted on loamy soil, the amount of water should be normal. It is necessary to water a three-blade pastry only in case of drying out of the ground, since stagnation of water can lead to rotting.
Louise Rosenmund requires constant fertilizer. In the spring, it is fertilized with a solution of 1 kg of mullein, 20 g of ammonium nitrate and 10 g of urea. All this must be diluted in 10 liters of water. In the fall, fertilizers should be applied, for example, double superphosphate and potassium sulphate at 20 g per square meter of soil.
In order to give the crown a beautiful shape and for recovery, almonds need pruning branches. At the end of the flowering period, flowering branches should be shortened by 2/3 of their length. This procedure stimulates the growth of new, healthy shoots. You also need to cut off all the branches that grow inside the crown.
- Preparing for frost.
Quite often, the branches of this plant are neatly tied with a bundle and wrapped with nonwoven material. You can also sprinkle the soil around the root with a layer of earth. But the root neck should be left open.
Nuances of cultivation in the Moscow region
Although luizeaniya and thermophilic plant, she calmly endures the frosty, snowy winters. Some sources claim that with proper preparation for the winter, it is not afraid of frosts down to -30. However, the problem may lie in sudden or frequent temperature fluctuations, especially if wet thaws replace frosts. In this case, the plant wakes up ahead of time, and can be damaged by frost. He freezes the ends of shoots and buds. In such cases, the almonds should be covered for the whole time of frost. Following the above recommendations, problems in the cultivation of almonds in the suburbs should not arise.
Growing in the Urals and in Siberia
Everyone thinks almond is an exotic plant that loves the sun and warmth and needs special care. However, this is nothing more than a delusion. Of about 40 species of this plant, most do not need a special climate and other conditions.
Although almost all types of almonds are frost-resistant and not particularly demanding to the soil, not all are suitable for cultivation in Siberia and the Urals. There is one type of plant that is suitable for the northern regions, this is almond steppe. It is also called almond, wild and low almond.
Like other types of almond, its flowers have a rich pinkish hue, and it blooms for about 2 weeks in early May. After a period of flowering, it is covered with leaves, and at the end of summer chestnut-colored fruits appear on it. The height of a spaghetti grows up to 1.5 meters. He needs plenty of light and shelter from the wind.
Species almonds are often propagated by seed, and for propagation of varietal, vegetative methods are used. The most common breeding method of tricolor is grafting on plum, almond or turn. To do this, take one direct shoot of almonds, on which the eyes have already formed. Leaves should be trimmed with shears.
Inoculation should be carried out during sap flow, namely in the spring or in August. The stock should be wiped from dust and dirt, make a T-shaped incision slightly higher than the root collar and unscrew the cut bark. Next, you need to cut a strip of bark from the cutting, so that it would completely fit under the T-neckline. Place the joint should be wrapped with a cloth or tape. The kidney must be left open.
For the propagation of almond grafting, requires cut cuttings from the top up to 25 cm in length and place them for 15 hours in a growth stimulator. Rooting cuttings occur in a cool greenhouse, after planting in the substrate, which consists of sand and peat. After a month rooting occurs. When the roots have formed, the cuttings should be transplanted to the trial bed.
Regular pruning of almond shoots will help it to preserve its beauty and pomp. Pruning is done at the end of flowering in June. With the help of pruning you can achieve the density of the crowns of the bush, which has a positive effect on its decorative appearance. Also, this procedure protects almonds from pests and fungi, affects the rapid growth of branches.
Where to buy seedlings?
Although the three-lobed almond has an exotic appearance, buying this plant is not a problem. It is worth looking for in special markets where plant seedlings are sold, as well as in stores specializing in seedlings. In addition, you can search for online stores with delivery or location closest to you.
What do gardeners say?
As you might guess, so beautiful and ornamental plant will not leave anyone indifferent. Reviews of gardeners about almond trekhlopastnik divided into two conditional camps: those who can not enjoy the beautiful flowering, and those who want to buy it.
Many people are also interested in the inclination of the bush to disease, justifying it with cases from their own experience. However, reviews show that almonds do not have a propensity for disease. Some seasonal diseases are found in almost every tree.
Application in landscape design
In its homeland, almonds have long gained popularity in the arrangement of territories and various sites. It is used for landscaping, decoration or additions of parks, country houses or cottages, on city streets and boulevards. In landscape design, this plant can have many uses. It looks good as paired with other plants, such as conifers, and paired with similar ones. In addition, almonds can be planted on the lawn, on the slopes, or near stones.
Three-lobed almonds on a shtambe
Almonds on a shtambe also look spectacular and beautiful, as in the form of a bush. If you do not have experience creating a form, you can buy a ready-made plant from specialists, or try to create this form yourself.
The easiest way to create a stem is the method of forming the trunk by cutting the crown. This method is quite easy and effective, but takes a large amount of time. The essence of this method lies in the fact that you need to pick up an even sapling, without knots and after planting it should be tied to a vertically hammered wooden peg.
When the seedling began to grow, the top must be tied to a peg, and all the shoots on the sides cut off, giving the almond the shape of a cap.

- How does almond grow?
Decorative almonds (luizeaniya three-lobed) grows in the form of a shrub or small tree. This plant is native to Central Asia, but thanks to the breeding work, new varieties can be grown in a more severe climate. During the flowering period, this plant throws out a lot of large flowers, which, depending on the variety, can be white, pink or red.
Selection of the site and its preparation for planting almonds
Three-lobed almond is a rather capricious plant, so for its cultivation it is necessary to choose the right place and conduct its comprehensive preparation. People who do not have the experience of growing this plant should prefer the following temperature-resistant varieties:
- Snow Wimura.
- Prunus triloba
- Terry drain.
- Coloring book.
These varieties are winter-hardy, therefore they can grow not only in the Moscow region, but also in more northern areas. If you choose the wrong site, the plant will be sick and may even die. For the cultivation of decorative almonds best suited sunny areas, protected from winds and drafts. This plant feels good only in areas with low groundwater, as the spring flooding of the root system can cause the death of almonds.
The best for this plant fit the hill. If the area is wet, it is necessary to drain. In this case, first dug a trench to 75 cm in depth. At the bottom you need to fall asleep about 20-25 cm of rubble or broken brick. A soil mixture is poured over this layer. The soil for cultivation must be fertile. Black soil is best suited to which humus, ash and other fertilizers should be applied.
Planting Almond and subsequent plant care
At the site it is desirable to plant several seedlings at once, since almonds have cross-pollination. Only in this case it will bloom profusely. Seedlings should be bought in the nursery, which has all the necessary documents. If weather conditions allow and the fruits have time to ripen, you can multiply the plant by sprouting seeds at home. If necessary, you can buy seed of this plant. In addition, good planting material can be obtained by pruning the branches of an adult plant. They need to be put into the water so that they take root.
Ornamental almonds also often produce cuttings that can be transplanted in the first year. Planting seedlings can be carried out both in spring and autumn. Most gardeners prefer autumn planting planting material. The distance between seedlings should be at least 2-2.5 m.
Planting almonds is a simple process. First you need to make a planting pit, the depth of which should be at least 30-40 cm, and the width is slightly larger than the earthen coma on the roots of the plant. In the finished hole should fill 5 cm layer of sand and drive a stick, which will later act as a support for the young plant.
Seedling should be placed in the hole and sprinkled with earth mixed with humus. After that, the plant must be tied to the support with a nylon cord. It is necessary to carefully water the area around the seedling with water. It is necessary to mulch the soil around the planting of crushed straw, humus and peat.
The ornamental almond is a drought resistant plant. He needs abundant watering only during the period of active flowering. In other periods, there is no need to water this ornamental shrub.
An important condition for almond growth is systematic fertilization of the soil. In the period before flowering, you need to make 1 kg of mullein, about 10 g of urea and at least 20 g of ammonium nitrate. All fertilizers need to be diluted in 10 liters of water and carefully shed the soil around the plant. In the summer, every 4-6 weeks should be added to 20 g of potassium sulphite and double superphosphate under each bush.
Decorative almonds branch well. To the plant had a beautiful dense form, you need to periodically perform his haircut. Almond tolerates pruning even during the flowering period. It is especially important to eliminate shoots that grow inside the crown. Haircutting procedures promote healing of the bush and stimulate the growth of new shoots.
Three-bladed almonds (another name is three-bladed luisings) belong to the genus Plum (Prunus), belonging to the Rosaceae family. Previously, this type of botany was distinguished into a separate genus of Louiseania. His homeland is China and Korea.
Perhaps the most popular in our latitudes grade is "Captivity." It is a shrub reaching two meters in height. Flowers gustomahrovye pink. Flowering lasts about ten days. Variety "Joy" can be both a tree and a shrub. At the time of flowering, this variety of almond is covered with large dark pink flowers. "Joy" refers to the early varieties, the plant begins to bloom in April. An interesting sort of "Snow Uemury". This is a tree or shrub, reaching a three-meter height. Its large double flowers initially have a soft pink color, which is gradually replaced by a cream.
Very beautiful bright colors are different variety "Puntsovaya." They have a rich crimson color. The plant itself has the shape of a low bush with straight shoots. Variety "Vesnyanka" looks like a plum tree. In the spring it is covered with large beige-pink flowers. Its remarkable feature is high resistance to monilial burn (moniliosis).
Planting rules seedlings
For planting are considered the best three-year seedlings. For their planting prepare pit about half a meter depth. For better drainage, the bottom of the pit is covered with 15 cm of gravel or coarse gravel and 200 g of lime are added to it. The roots of the plant are covered with a mixture, the components of which are 3 parts of leafy ground, 2 parts of humus and one part of sand. The soil around the tree is slightly tamped and watered abundantly.
It is possible to plant seedlings both in the spring, and in the fall. In the spring they are planted when setting enough warm weather, when there is no risk of frost. In the fall, planting is done after leaf fall. Autumn planting is considered the best option. When planting several trees or shrubs, the distance between them is kept at least three meters.
With this method of reproduction, the fruit of both the tree and the shrub is used. Almond fruit pit is planted in open ground. Planting pits produce in the groove depth of 10 cm, at a distance of 10-12 cm from each other. After dropping with earth and watering, planting material does not need further care.
After the emergence of seedlings, the earth around them is loosened and weeded. The shoots are transplanted to a permanent place when they reach about 50 cm in height. At the same time, on the stem section 10 cm from the root collar, all lateral shoots that have appeared are cut off. It is possible to plant bones both in late autumn and in early spring. During spring planting, the bones are stratified — kept in a refrigerator at 3-5 ° C for approximately four months.
Procurement of cuttings produced in the second half of June. To do this, cut lignified apical shoots. They must contain two knots, the length of the cutting is 15-20 cm. Next, cuttings are placed for 24 hours in a growth stimulator solution, then planted (cuttings are stuck into the substrate) in a greenhouse. Used for rooting substrate of sand and peat in a ratio of 1: 2.Sufficiently developed roots are formed after 3-4 weeks, after which the cuttings are moved to open ground, where they develop to the desired condition, after which they are transplanted to a permanent place.
From the layering
The procedure for reproduction by layering begins in early spring, before the plant awakens from its winter dormancy. The flexible lower branches of the plant are bent to the ground and fixed in this position. The point of fixation is sprinkled with soil, later on, it is taken care of as an ordinary sapling — they loosen the ground around it and water it. A year later, the layers take root, it can be separated from the parent plant and transplanted to a suitable place.
This breeding method is used in the spring or in August. For stocks choose resistant to cold varieties of almonds. The use of plum, thorns or plums also gives good results. For the graft, use a straight stalk of almonds with formed eyes and cut leaves.
The stock is cleared of dirt and a T-shaped incision is made on the bark above the root collar, the cut bark is folded back, the so-called “shield” is placed there, it is pressed against the bark and ground with adhesive tape for reliability. A flap is a patch of bark cut from a graft that contains a kidney. It must fit completely under the bark of the stock. If the vaccination took place in the spring, then after the kidney is taking root, the tape is removed. In the case of a summer vaccination, the tape is left until spring.
Care for three-lobed almonds
Almond care is easy, but should be regular. The first loosening of the soil around the trunk should be done at the end of March. This procedure must be repeated another 3-4 times throughout the growing season. In addition, weeds should be regularly removed around the plant.
Almonds are a drought-resistant crop, but despite this, it is better bearing fruit and grows with regular and sufficient irrigation. If the plant is planted and grows in sandy soil, then it should be watered more often than plants planted on normal soils. .
Watering should be done when the top layer of the soil dries out by about 1-1.5 cm. Then a bucket of water is poured into the near-stem circle. It must be remembered that waterlogging may lead to rotting of the roots. Seedlings are watered more often, about once every 10-15 days. If there is no possibility to water the almonds throughout the growing season, then you should try to organize regular watering at least in spring and autumn.
Regular top dressing allows you to achieve the most spectacular flowering of three-blade almonds. With the onset of spring, each tree or shrub should be fed with a solution of 1 kg of manure and 20 g of ammonium nitrate, which is diluted with 10 liters of water. In the fall, it is advisable to add potassium sulphate under the rhizomes of almond in a blend with double superphosphate - approximately 20 g per 1 square meter. m. In addition, in the fall need to trim annual shoots that did not have time to stiffen.
Pruning, both preventive and decorative (cutting flowering shoots for bouquets), almonds tolerates well. Formative pruning should be done after the plant has faded. It is necessary to cut off annual shoots, as well as diseased and not given full flowering branches.
Diseases and pests
The main pests of almonds are leafworm and aphid. The wisp can be overcome with the help of chlorophos solution (concentration 0.15-0.3%) by spraying the tracks. Against aphids, a solution of household soap is good at the rate of 200-300 g of soap per 10 liters of water. This solution is sprayed with leaves affected by aphids.
The real scourge of almonds is the dangerous fungal disease moniliosis (aka monilial burn), for the fight against which plants are sprayed with Bordeaux liquid every 15-20 days. In addition to this scourge, this species tends to ache with gray rot, which can be eliminated only by cutting off the affected branches in the winter or spring, immediately after the flowering period. With this disease, it is important to prevent the emergence of sporospace pads.
So, three-lobed almonds can not be called unpretentious plant. A grower encounters certain difficulties in growing it: sensitivity to long thaws and overmoistening, susceptibility to certain diseases. However, these difficulties are quite surmountable, and otherwise, planting and caring for this ornamental tree or shrub is simple. The reward for the efforts will be its magnificent, unforgettable spring flowering.
Three-bladed almonds (luizeaniya) is a flowering deciduous shrub, which sometimes reaches a height of 2 m. Externally, luizeaniya looks like a small slender tree or shrub with a spherical crown.
The leaves are oblong-ovate, up to 6 cm long, up to 3 cm wide, twice serrate, slightly pubescent, three-lobed at the tips.
Flowers double, with a diameter of 2.5 cm, located singly or in pairs. Petals are round or egg-shaped with blunt ends. Depending on the variety, the color of the petals varies from pale pink to bright crimson. Each flower contains 25-30 stamens. Flowers open before foliage, usually at the end of May.
The fruits of luiseania are reddish pubescent pubescent with a diameter of about 2 cm, they are inedible, a thin layer of amniotic pulp dries and cracks when ripe. The bone itself is covered with patterned veins.
Varieties of three-bladed almonds
The following common types of luizeania exist:
- Captivity. It has large double flowers with a diameter up to 4 cm. It blooms simultaneously with the blooming of the foliage. The height of the bush is up to 2 m, it branches well, the plant is sterile, the fruits fall, not having time to develop.
- Kiev Flowering occurs earlier than other varieties, flowers are brighter, flowers are terry, enlarged.
- Chinese. This form was obtained as a result of grafting on felt cherries, therefore, it is very similar to sakura. Differs in longer flowering period.
- Tanya. This species is characterized by earlier and long flowering. The flowers themselves are smallish, but with a lot of petals twisted around the ends.
- Crimson. Differs direct shoots sprinkled with bright crimson flowers.
- Vesnyanka. The most resistant to common diseases type of three-lobed almonds.
- Rosemund. It is characterized by the longest flowering (within three weeks), enlarged with terry flowers of bright pink color.
Application of three-lobed almond in landscape design
The three-lobed almond is an impressively beautiful, abundantly flowering plant, which also maintains its decorative throughout the season - in the fall its foliage acquires all shades of red, orange and yellow. For these qualities landscape designers highly appreciate it and are often used in their compositions.
The bushes and small three-bladed almond trees look great in single plantings and in the vicinity of Japanese spirea and daylilies.
Site selection and preparation for planting
It is best to purchase a seedling at the age of three years. When buying, special attention should be paid to the soil in the container, it should be fertile and sufficiently moist. At the very seedling should not be damaged shoots, signs of diseases and pests.
Luiseania prefers well-lit areas, but can grow remarkably in partial shade. The main thing that the site was protected from drafts and cold winds.
It is also necessary to check the level of flow of groundwater, which should not come close to the surface of the earth, the three-blade almond does not tolerate the overmoistening of the soil.
The content of the soil almonds unpretentious, but for better growth and flowering, you must choose fertile soil. Most preferred are weakly alkaline or neutral loamy soils. On the eve of planting, the plot is cleared of weeds, well dug up and leveled.
Experienced gardeners recommend planting a three-bladed almond in autumn. It should also be noted that for successful cross-pollination, several seedlings should be planted at once, the distance between them should be at least 3 m.
When landing, adhere to the following scheme:
- Dig a hole 40 * 40 * 40.
- At the bottom pour a layer of drainage in the form of broken brick or small gravel.
- A layer of sand is poured over the drainage.
- In the center of the pit drive a stake for backup.
- In the middle of the pit is placed a sapling.
- The excavated soil is mixed with humus, leaf earth, and sand.
- The roots of the seedling are filled with soil mixture, gently tamped down, and the root neck should be flush with the ground.
- Planted plant is plentifully watered and tied to a support.
- Mulch the basal circle with peat or humus.
Caring for luiseanie is not particularly difficult, but some effort will have to be made, and then the plant will thank for its abundant flowering and stunning decorative views.
When performing watering, you must comply with the norm and do not flood the plant, it does not like excessive moisture and can even easily tolerate a small drought.
Young saplings need regular watering 2 times a week for 2-3 buckets per bush, and adult plants can be watered only in hot summer, and in another season they have enough natural moisture obtained with precipitation.
Watering is performed in the morning or evening hours, settled water at room temperature. Watering should be carefully, strictly under the root, not touching the branches.
After watering, it is desirable to make a shallow loosening of the soil and mulching. Also need to timely remove weeds.
Three-lobed almonds can grow on depleted soils, but it is better to add humus immediately after the flowering period, and add urea in a week. The subsequent top dressing is made in the autumn by digging up the soil with superphosphate.
Pruning is done after winter, removing the frozen and damaged branches. After flowering, flower stalks should be removed.
After crown formation, old 5-6-year-old shoots are removed to form the crown, thus rejuvenating the plant.
The three-lobed almonds can be propagated with the help of bones, cuttings, cuttings and root shoots:
- Sowing seeds. This is a very long and laborious way. A plant grown from a stone needs to be grafted, but even this does not guarantee the safety of species. This method is extremely rare.
- Cuttings. Cuttings 15–20 cm long are cut from the tops of the stiff shoots. Before planting, they are kept for a day in the root growth stimulator solution. Planted cuttings in greenhouse conditions in the soil, consisting of peat and sand. A month after rooting, they can be landed in a stationary place in the garden.
- Reproduction by layering. At the very beginning of spring, it is necessary to find low-growing healthy branches on the bush, bend them to the ground, fasten with straps, sprinkle the contact area with soil, water periodically, and a year after rooting the cuttings can be separated from the main plant and planted in a stationary place in the garden .
- Root growth. If lateral processes are formed from the main plant, you can carefully dig them out in early spring and separate them together with a part of the root. Next, plant a root with a root on a stationary place in the garden in the usual way.
Shelter for the winter
Three-lobed almonds possess average frost resistance. The plant must be sheltered for the winter. For this, after the autumn pruning, the branches are tied with a rope and wrapped with a covering material, and the trunk circle is covered with a layer of dry earth, leaving the basal neck open. In the spring the shelter is taken apart.
Fight and disease and pests
The most important enemy of the three-bladed almond is moniliosis. It manifests itself in damage to wood, which leads to the death of the bush. They cope with this fungal disease by spraying with a foundation during flowering.
Of the harmful insects, the three-bladed almonds are fond of moths, moths, aphids, and the bark beetle. Three times spraying of chlorophos or karbofos with an interval of 2 weeks will help from these uninvited guests.
From the aphids will help tobacco infusion with soap in the form of spraying, and from the bark beetle-sapwood - whitewashing of the lime-clay mortar with the addition of bustilat.
Endemic mountain regions of the Caucasus prefers bright mountain slopes, ravines, forest edges. Thermophilic variety, less winter hardy. Deciduous shrub no more than 1 m, with a thick spherical crown. Leaves alternate, oval or linear-lanceolate, about 5-8 cm in length, narrowed at the end and at the cutting.

The flowers are fragrant, large, single, rich pink color, bloom simultaneously with the leaves. The fruit is an inedible, covered with felted edging of a drupe, up to 2 cm long. All parts of the plant are poisonous. The plant gives a lot of young shoots. Heliophilous, drought-resistant variety, can grow on stony ground. Flowering lasts 1-2 weeks.
Open field maintenance
Three-bladed almonds are fairly easy to grow. The rules of care are simple and consist in weeding, loosening, pruning, watering.
Water the plant periodically moderately, during the flowering period of the bush requires more water than at other times, the duration of flowering depends on it. In wet soils, watering requires moderate, even sparse. When growing almonds watered strictly under the trunk, the water on the aboveground parts of plants can cause burns of leaves and flowers. Loosen and remove weeds around the trunk 2-4 days after watering.
If necessary, lizeeniya transplanted to another location, the procedure is carried out in August. The plant tolerates transplant calmly.
The bush is frost-resistant, however, the shelter does not hurt for the winter, the branches are tied in a bundle, they are wrapped with woven material, and the soil around the trunk is mulched with peat.
Top dressing and watering
Almond rather drought-resistant plant. During flowering abundant watering is required to the bush, regardless of the composition of the soil on which it grows. In the future, the bush on sandy soil requires more watering than on clay soil. Waterlogging of the soil and stagnation of water can cause root collar to rot. Water is necessary for the plant when the soil dries to a depth of 1.5-2 cm.
Fertilizing is applied after the flowering period, organic fertilizers are used (compost, humus). After 7-14 days after top dressing, urea solution is injected into the ground. One bush will need 10 grams of fertilizer per bucket of water. In the autumn, make no more than 50 grams of mineral phosphate fertilizers (superphosphate or wood ash at the rate of 1 cup per bucket of water) and shallowly dug. With the onset of winter, the soil around the trunk is mulched with peat or leaf humus (5-6 kg under a bush).
How to trim a bush
Almond calmly transfers decorative and sanitary pruning, which is necessary for the formation of the crown and the healing of the bush. Pruning is carried out annually, starting at the age of two. As soon as the bush ottsvetet, all branches are shortened by 2/3 length. This procedure stimulates the growth of new shoots. Trimming exposed branches that grow deep into the crown. They contribute to the thickening of the crown, which reduces the degree of ventilation of the bush, as a result of which diseases can begin. Sanitary pruning carried out in early spring before the swelling of flower buds. Remove dried, frozen branches and shoots.
How almond varieties and varieties look and bloom
The flowering time is an amazingly beautiful sight. Among the plants that wake up in spring, an airy, pale pink, fragrant cloud of almonds is formed. You can see how Louisiana looks like in various types and varieties during the flowering period in the photo below.
Decorative almond in landscape design
Almond three-blade perfectly fit into any landscape design. Planting in a group or one by one will decorate any garden area. Looks great in the ensemble with decorative conifers, lilies and other ornamental plants that have a different flowering period. When luiseania blooms, the dense green of the adjacent plantations successfully emphasizes pink abundance. Later, the green foliage of the bush perfectly complements the flower garden.
Like sakura, louisiana personifies the beauty of an awakening nature. Gentle flowering will not leave anyone indifferent. An elegant shrub falls in love with the first flowers, and since in one place the bush is able to live for more than 60 years, the decorative smart handsome man will delight for many years.
Description of the three-lobed almond
For the first time I was lucky to see a three-blade almond in the early spring of the already distant 1993 at the International Youth Conference in Lviv. Then everyone was fascinated by the flowering branches of an unusually beautiful shrub.
The branches covered with large terry pink, purple, light red, and crimson flowers had something in common with both apricot and plum.
A plant report was made by an amateur gardener from the Rivne region. Vladimir Batchenko, who, at his own expense, worked to create new varieties of this amazingly beautiful shrub, crossing different varieties between himself and even with cherry plum, plum and felt cherries. All at that time, he brought more than 10 different varieties.
It is a pity that the planting material did not endure a long postal journey, and then I did not manage to dissolve the almonds in my garden. Although the speaker claimed that the shrub is quite frost-resistant and quite suitable for Belarus.
A few years later, during field expeditions, we sometimes began to see three-lobed almonds in garden plots, mainly in the western regions of Belarus, where the plant came, apparently from Poland, and recently twice - under the fence and even ... in a landfill.
This circumstance allows us to conclude that the almond is sufficiently winter-hardy under the conditions of the middle lane.
Although the three-bladed almond came to Europe more than 150 years ago, it still remains an exotus.
Nevertheless, the three-lobed almond deserves wider distribution and use. Growing it on my plot for seven years has confirmed its good winter hardiness and unpretentiousness: it responds to its minimal maintenance with abundant annual flowering.
The shrub tolerates frosts quite easily to -20-25 degrees, but with prolonged thaws or the absence of snow cover early leaves the state of rest and can be damaged by late frosts. Flower buds often suffer from this, while the plant itself survives.
This is a fairly large shrub with leaves falling in the winter, reaching a height of 3, and sometimes 5 meters. But it can be formed in the form of a small tree.
The three-lobed almond has got its specific name due to the original wide-elliptical or three-lobed form of leaves, which is better manifested in young shoots.
The size of flowers varies depending on the variety up to 3-4 cm in diameter. They are solitary, on short pedicels - why it seems that the entire branch is covered with flowers. Flowering usually begins before the leaves bloom or at the beginning of their deployment and lasts up to two weeks.
Three-bladed almonds can be used for forcing in early spring. He is reconciled with urban growing conditions.
Care almond three-bladed
Annual pruning after flowering. This operation is necessary because the almond suffers from such a harmful fungus as monilia, which infects the flowers, young shoots and leaves, often causing the death of the plant.
After a strong pruning by the autumn, long annual shoots are formed on the bush, which next year will bloom profusely. If by the fall they do not have time to mature and woody, it is recommended to pinch their tops in September.
This will accelerate the ripening of the branches. By the way, such an operation can be carried out with other shrubs, including grapes.
To prevent the development of moniliosis, in addition to pruning and destroying the affected branches, you can spray the shrub in the spring every two weeks with 1% Bordeaux liquid and twice during flowering with basezol (10 g / 10 l of water). The spread of the disease is promoted by increased air humidity and low temperatures during flowering.
The probability of infection with moniliosis is reduced when growing three-bladed almonds on a trunk, when, in addition to the fact that the plant itself looks very beautiful in this version, strong pruning gives the shrub an exotic look.
Sometimes almond can have a root-bark root and bark heating that doesn’t occur in shtambovy specimens. As a stock, it is recommended to use local varieties of plums or ternosliv (incompatibility with cherries and cherries in almonds!).
Damage to the plant by pests is insignificant (at least in the conditions of Belarus).
Three-bladed almonds require abundant watering during flowering, especially on light sandy soils, otherwise the flowers become shallow and quickly fall off.
It should be borne in mind that the three-lobed almond is a light-loving plant and therefore it is better for the garden to make open spaces, and planting with conifers, which makes the flowers look amazing on a green background. It looks good with early-spring small-growing plants.
Planting and care
The shrub is very photophilous, resistant to drought. Fruits are inedible. The shape and size of the flowers depend on the variety.
You can plant in the fall and spring in the morning or evening. The plant needs cross-pollination, plant several varieties of shrubs nearby. It prefers slightly acidic soil with acidity from 4.5 to 7.5 pH and the average level of groundwater.
- Plot for planting in the place lit by the sun.
- The soil should be fertile loamy or sandy, can be stony. The shrub will not grow on clay, heavy soil is not suitable for it.
- Dig holes 35–40 cm deep. The distance between adjacent plants should be at least 3 m, and between rows 5 m.
- Put claydite or broken brick on the bottom and sand on it. They prevent stagnant moisture at the roots.
- Place a wooden or metal rod in the center that will support the seedling; it should be 50 cm above ground level.
- Dip the roots in a mixture of clay and water for 15–20 minutes.
- Planted so that the root neck is a few centimeters above the ground.
- Pour into a prepared composition of sod land, compost and sand.
- Seal the ground. Water: each bush will need 10–20 liters of water.
- Tie up the seedling to the support.
Reduce the acidity of the soil by adding lime or dolomite flour.
- In March, loosen the soil around the almonds, repeat the procedure 3-4 times throughout the season. Weed the weeds.
- Water adult plants once every 2-3 weeks, and seedlings once every 10-14 days. Almond tolerates summer drought, subject to abundant watering in April and May. Keep in mind that excessive moisture leads to rotting of the roots.
- To bloom well bush, feed it in spring. Dissolve 20 g of ammonium nitrate and 1 kg of manure in 10 liters of water.
- In the fall, use a mixture of potassium sulfate with double superphosphate as a fertilizer.
In the spring cut dry branches. Form a bush after it blooms. The plant tolerates cutting flowering branches to create bouquets.
Luisean maintains frosts down to -30 ° C, provided there are no long periods of thaw. The plant is at rest for 30 days, then in the warm winter begins to produce buds, which freeze when the temperature drops.
Plant almonds in the area to enjoy abundant flowering in the spring. With proper care luizeaniya grows over 100 years.
